Just how much of a problem ARE interlopers in the YC?

I have recently read about interlopers in the YC, sneaking in or being let in by family/friends who are staying in the YC.

How much of a problem is this?  I recall reading about this even before the pandemic, but now it seems worse.  I know Morpheus...has experienced this every time he sails in the YC.  We've been in the YC three times and don't recall seeing this, although we did have a couple who asked if they could walk in with us so they could "look around" for possibly booking YC in the future (we denied their request).  This was last October.

Then there's the possibility of a large group (70) from Miami taking over sometime in July......just when I was considering booking.😔

Cruised in YC twice...   Very few if any interlopers. If anything I saw kids bringing in friends but staff quickly asked them to leave. After a day or 2...staff on Pool deck recognize most guest and I feel are quick to act on non YC guests. A few years ago they di allow a small amount (controlled) of non YC guests to purchase day passes but I have heard this practice has stopped

I've seen it maybe once or twice on Ocean Cay. One group was turned away near the bridge and another group managed to sneak in. The interlopers eventually got the message and left when the Yacht Club guests gave them the evil eye. 😠

Other than that, I haven't seen it happen. Nobody has ever tried to piggyback when I enter the Yacht Club....probably because they didn't think that I would be able to enter in the first place.

TBH, I see more people try to piggyback when I sail NCL Haven.

Anyone, anyone not in uniform using this stairway is an interloper. It is very difficult to keep a vigilant eye open on this deck, because the rolling of the ship rocks one to sleep as the interlopers file on past. The worst day is Seafood Extravaganza Buffet Day, but EVERYONE has their eyes on (and counting) the lobster tails and not on this stairway.

All of us would not be able to spot an interloper. It is like waking up in the morning and not knowing ones own reflection in the mirror. Sit on this side of the One Pool Deck and watch this stairway in the far background on the right (the hot tub is on the left.

They need a lock on it like Celebrity does to enter the retreat deck.

On Cunard - our only previous cruise experience - we got upgraded to Britannia Club. Not the Grills experience, but enough to get you the super fluffy dressing gowns that instantly differentiated one from those travelling in Steerage.

Obviously, in warmer climes, there would need to be some different scheme - complimentary gold Speedos perhaps.

I am cruising the YC for first time on the Seaside. We are on deck 16 and was wondering if the elevator on that deck is key card access for YC only? Just curiouse, as we sail the Haven alot and we never have an issue with Non Haven inside the complex

Gold!  Mine has always been dark blue with a white logo. I haven’t seen any gold ones yet. I’ll have to ask my butler.

We've seen interlopers on various ships.  Those that sneak in are generally escorted out fairly quickly.  However the real issue is when a  YC guest "invites" their friend/family to join them and the YC guest gets all high & mighty with the pool attendants/staff and starts ranting about "I paid good money and I can do what I want" .. blah, blah, blah.  Then it becomes a whole thing.

I seen that many times where someone in a large group has booked a a cabin in the suite area.   The others in their group are in lower class cabins.   The rant starts as soon as they start to board.  They feel that everyone can now get the embarkation privileges because the group is sailing with them.

The elevators (plural) are outside the Yacht Club. The ONE elevator within the YC enclave is only for the few YC decks and no need for key card for elevator. Key card for elevators OUTSIDE the YC enclave is used to override the system for YC guests. One does not need the key card to access any elevator.

Another indication that this is happening is when the YC Director disappears for the cruise. He/she do not want to be confronted by irate guests, both those that demand to have their friends and family to use the YC and those that can not find an available pergola or have to wait longer for service due to too many with access to the YC that do not belong.

How would you feel if you kept being asked for your wristband because you look different. Happened to my wife on both occasions we have been in YC, including at the insistence of a Hyacinth Bucket wannabe. So IT’S NOT THE WRONG ANSWER! Would that not ruin”the experience “. And for the record she carries here card as she can’t wear her wrist band due to a medical condition. So rather than play YC police look at the whole situation

As I can't wear a wristband either because I have sensitive skin, I wouldn't mind at all.  You said earlier who cares as long as they basically don't bother anyone.  If you apply that to everyone, then why charge the higher prices?  People pay for that.  If anyone is allowed in as long as they behave correctly, then I'd like a discount on my cruise fare.

Not to mention, I would be pissed if i was out by the pool and those who are not supposed to be at the YC pool are taking up seats. Again, if you want the extra level of service and amenities, pay for it just like the rest of us.

The Yacht Club Director is budgeted to serve approximately 200 to 250 guests (service staff, food, liquor, etc). He now finds himself serving 250 to 300 guests or whatever, it doesn’t make any difference. Only two things can happen, both bad. The service will be diminished for those that paid the fare, or the provided food/liquor whatever cost goes up. Guess what, both of those happenings will lead to pressure to increase prices.  Sorry, I don’t want freeloaders to cost me more when I sail again.

I find the biggest issue is on Ocean Cay.  We have seen many people get on to the YC beach but most of the times they are told to leave.  One time the group of people actually caused a huge scene and verbally abused a YC guest that told them the area was only for YC guests.

Who cares as long as they don’t act stupid, harass someone or hog the snack buffet.

Who should care are all those that can not find, lounges and pergolas (already hogged by suite guests as well),and those of us that are made to wait in a longer line in the stifling hot sun for the Seafood Extravaganza to the point that some have posted that they just leave the One Pool Deck it being too long a wait to get to the buffet. These same interlopers feel they can also smoke anywhere they squat and never in the designated smoking area. We are paying for exclusivity and do not want to 'rub elbows' with interlopers. Squatting in ones reserved pergola is harassment. We tip extra to keep them away from us. On this cruise the pool attendant was so intimidated by the YC guests that invited their friends and family into the YC for the Seafood Extravaganza he allowed them all to finish their meals before asking them to leave so paying YC guests, still waiting, had a place to sit.

That would be quite frustrating!

How would a guest know if they were in the YC or not?

We will tell you exactly how we feel. We do not wear the complimentary wrist bands. we lock them away in our suitcases. My DW fit your wife's profile as well and was walking around the One Pool Deck and was stopped by this pool attendant and asked to see her key card. Since I carry both she came and retrieved it from me and I gave her $20 to tip this pool attendant to keep it up and try to catch as many as he can. We have this 'experience ' quite often as my DW is Euro-Asian looking munchkin. Now he smiles whenever DW approaches.
