casino comps dissapointment

recently I was on the horizon 8 day -

well over 33000 points accumulated  - I was approached by the host  to comp a meal or spa service - I accepted.

my disappointment is from their rebound promo - offered a free suite

I had already booked aa suite for June 2024 and called to see if they could use that free suite promo  and they denied it

I have to use by jan

I guess my money is not wanted

I have been trying to get casino deals and not had much luck either. I don't get them at all even though I spend more money in the casino that my husband, and my husband only seems to get really mediocre deals that are barely a savings.  Yet, my mother who has been on only one Carnival cruises get free cruise offers.   Only time we ever got good deals was when they had the vax only cruises during the restart.

This is pretty standard.  You can't use new promos (of any kind) toward something you have booked already.  Only new bookings.

$2.50 = 1 point

Wow!!!!  Never realized how the points accumulated, never paid attention.  I play some on the slots but not a lot.  Enough that I finally got some small discounted offers for room rates and DOU for just me, but that's about it.  My dad plays once a year and doesn't drop a ton (like $1000) or less and get better rates then I do.

But $82,500... I am flabbergasted!

If I had that kind of money to blow I would be traveling MUCH differently then Carnival lol!

I had a couple of hand pays a few years ago that required me to report the income to the IRS. (My wins requiring hand pay was only a little over $1200 each). I only took $2000 to play. When I received my Win/Loss report from Royal, I was flabbergasted to see that my actual play (coin in) was over $20K

Fortunately, it's not like they loaded up 80 large and played it down (to 0), it the total played over the entire time - recycling small payouts and the such.

When I'm playing BJ (ranging from $50-200/deal on average) I can't imagine what that technically adds up to over the course of an evening or a cruise... yikes !

Don't want to be called out for being "judgy", but to me it's difficult to be sympathetic when I have never received a casino offer. We pay full price for our cruises and accrue nights the same way cruisers with free casino offers do. We just happen to pay a small fortune to reach different VIFP levels. Enjoy the offers you receive and think about those of us who don't.

Most of our cabins we paid full fare for (and a majority were suites) - so when Carnival gives us 1 VIFP point for each night, those points are extra pricey.

I guess my occasional posts regarding getting more points for more spend are pointless anyway - as they don't have a higher tier, nor will they ever have one that compares to many other (non-CCL) lines.

Oh well !

I think offers have more to do with the "secret" Carnival algorithm - we accumulated ~25K points on last cruise combined and had 4 Elite offers about a month after we got off the ship. We've never received Premier, Getaway, or Ultra offer.  4th cruise. Lowly Red.

The purpose of the comped cruise is to incentivize you to do something you otherwise might not do.  When you've previously committed to another cruise there's no benefit whatsoever for Carnival to refund that cruise and let you use your comped cruise instead.

They do want your money, just on another sailing besides the one you already have booked.

I sure wish someone would figure out what that algorithm is.

I was just thinking how much I've paid in cruise fares alone over the 22 cruises I have been on.  It's a lot but not $82,500.  Yowza!!

That's money through the machine, not total money spent.  If you put $500 in, you may accumulate several thousand points before you run through that $500.

OP, depending on how you booked, it might make sense to cancel the existing cruise and do a new cruise booking for that same exact sailing.  Just confirm in advance that the promo would work for that sailing in advance.  If you have a PVP, they could work with you on this, versus going through the casino.

If you put $82,500 through the casino why are you worried about a free cruise?

How much you “put through” the casino isn’t indicative of how much money you have or how you value it.  Theoretically, one could put in a $20 bill and “run through” $82,500 without ever putting in another nickel…
