As you can see the on board receipt does not have my mom or dad signature so apparently they just charged the fee that same day but my mom did not see the charge on her card until a week later . She was never given a copy of this receipt until today that was emailed to us. All she was emailed previously was the folio . I grayed out their name and folio for privacy IMG_6642.thumb.jpeg.ab780198cc17bb4b307e3d7e942e4db3.jpeg

How much do you tip on this?🤔

I don't see that as anywhere near adequate of documentation from RC, especially since they say "make sure you have travel insurance." That's the point, trying to get documentation to submit to travel insurance.

I mean miscellaneous could be paying for a TV that you broke. No insurance would take that.

That's the same thought that came to mind.  Miscellaneous-Good Grief!   I guess their IT codes are very limited.😆

That is because RCI doesn't care. They get their money and that is what matters to them. This is an easy government fix. Simply add one line to the law... If a ship's physician determines that for medical reasons it is better for a passenger to leave the cruise early rather than complete it, then the penalties of the law will not apply....

Now I've done all the leg work for the deadbeats in Washington. All they have to do is add the wording.

It wasn’t clear if the ship’s doctor was involved. Usually it is better coordinated if they are.

They would have made sure he was if it was going to save them $1800 don't you think? And I suspect anyone ill enough to leave a cruise probably made a stop at the medical center unless suffering a medical emergency while in port. In that case, with proper documentation, the ship's physician could sign off on the fine waiver.

It was unclear what the emergency was and whether the ships doctor was involved. It was also unclear from the report if the parents knew how much the fee was at the time. I imagine returning to the ship and packing while leaving someone at the hospital would be stressful enough without checking in with several departments.

I am unaware of the circumstances of who was involved and the OP didn't mention one way or the other.

I have only seen people being attended by medical services portside and there seem to be several officers involved in coordinating that usually but I have no idea who they are.

Good news , After my parents replying back to Mr Bayleys assistant  inquiring about what happened to the medical waiver request that they said they would apply for (my mom turned in a letter from the hospital to the ship that day as proof of hospital admission ) ,I just received this response :

And you know that all of the external facing email addresses for the execs are routed to a guest services call center. The execs would never see or care about the hundreds of complaints sent to those email addresses weekly/daily. They are handled with all other guest services requests with canned responses as you see.

And you should know that that email address is actually for his staff, who are trained and ready to answer those queries.

The emails do not go to the executives, but are handled by their assistants.  When I had an issue and emailed Micheal Bailey’s office it was handled by Aurora.  We even had a few phone calls to figure it out. She also sends out corporate emails to the masses when cruises are changed for hurricanes, emergency cruise cancellations due to mechanical failures etc….

It's not to say there there are not generic responses but emails do not just go to call centres.

I reached out to Michael Bayley following a cruise during which we were not given our beverage package that was included with our booking. We received an apology from one of his executive assistants, who indicated that we would receive the package on our next booked cruise that didn't include the perk. When we subsequently cancelled that cruise, I wrote back to the EA and she simply moved the BP to the next booked cruise. Very easy to deal with, and we were very happy with the resolution.

What is this YOUR PENALTY stuff?  I believe, from what I've been reading and researching, it is a penalty on the Cruise Line, not the passenger.

Word games and phycological games.  Well, the bottom line is that you are getting your/their money back or at least promised.  Good for you all.  That is the bottom line.

Just to update everyone , Lorenzo from executive office was very helpful and got my parents penalty refunded after review of the case . Kudos to him . Everyone else they would speak to on the phone (customer service) had no clue of what to do . He even gave them a discount coupon on a future cruise . My parents are very grateful to him . Positive ending to this story , I hope no one has to go through a situation like this ever of ending up in a hospital and missing out on your vacation

I wanted to thank you all again , without your ideas and suggestions this positive outcome would not have happened .
happy travels everyone !
