It's hard to narrow it down to just 5

sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen (I'm a red head and get burned thinking about going out in the sun)

Post-it notes - to leave messages for cabin steward and DH

Highlighters (several colors) - to mark activities in the Compass

Several bottles of water

First-Aid kit

DH is a gadget junkie so his list would be

PSP (complete with games, movies and music)

Inno XM radio

Digital Camera

Laptop

Leatherman (I have to admit this one has come in handy just make sure it's in the packed luggage)

My 5 things are:

1. DH

2. Passport

3. $$

4. Discover Card

5. Sunscreen

To the folks who listed duct tape: I'm dying to know what on earth you use it for! And, what did the person who brought a Leatherman use it for??

Inquiring minds want to know!

Bonine, more shoes than I need, iPod loaded with cruise songs, running shoes to get the meals off with, hair thingy that dries it and gives it some curl and one pair of sunglasses that make me feel like a Cruise Goddess.

Maybe I am missing the obvious here, but can someone explain what is up with the duct tape and power strips? Why would you need either one of those?

The power strip is because their are a limited number of outlets in the cabins....We use them to charge all of DH & DS toys.

The duct tape I have not used but have read it's to wrap around your suitcase if it gets damaged.

I thought of a few others:

Downey wrinkle release

(can take the place of a travel iron)

brightly colored duct tape to put on luggage as an easy identification at airports, etc. We used Neon green and it was better than the ribbon we used to use on the handles.

different sized zip lock bags.

chap stick

money clip

we should have done out list in order of importance?? Adds a little humor.

1. Money, meds, and docs

2. Bras and underwear, (really hard to replace with the kind you like, and yes I forgot to pack these ONCE- my honeymoon. OOOOps)

2. Seabands for motion sickness (they work for me and I get sick on buses, cars, airplanes, ships, probably anything that has motion...)

3. Walking shoes

4. Printouts from CC and travel notes and books

5. Sense of humor

Why earplugs? Don't live with someone who snores, do you? They work beautifully!

Why duct tape? The airline tore a new seam in my suitcase on the way down several cruises ago, and I didn't discover it until we were packing to go home. I had to borrow duct tape from maintenance - after trying to explain to our very helpful cabin steward exactly what it was - to get our stuff home. Since then we've always brought a small role of our own.

Suze,

I used the plier part of the leatherman to fix the buckle on my sandles and we've used the knife part numerous times to cut the twist ties off the luggage.

5. Captain to "drive" the ship

I thought I would add something besides the obvious necessities. :D

Don't even need him...or the quartermaster... an officer just sets the computer and they can stand on the dock (well, actually leave with the harbor pilot) waving bye-bye, hop on a plane, and meet us at the next port.

But my 5 are:

1. %#&* Platinum shopping guide...to try and get my money's worth out of it by getting to most of the ports included in it within a year (I know, it'll never happen)

2. Jack

3. Jim

4. Johnny

5. caffeine free diet coke (for the above 3 friends) :D

I have to say I'm very surprised to only see ONE response of Downy Wrinkle release! Maybe I just have an unhealthy obsession with wrinkles . . . or maybe y'all spring for onboard pressing service . . .

At any rate, just to even out the odds a bit:

1) Downy Wrinkle Release

2) Downy Wrinkle Release

3) Downy Wrinkle Release

4) Downy Wrinkle Release

5) Downy Wrinkle Release :D

I pack as little as possible and pack so I don't get wrinkles, so I eliminate a lot of what is on many peoples lists. The most important items for me ar:

My passport

Cash/credit card

A good camera with plenty of memory and an extra battery

My most comfortable walking shoes
