  1. 1. What Size Dining Table Do You Request & Why??

    • Always request a table for 2 (or only for our group)
    • Table for 2 only on special occasions
    • Always willing to share and meet new folks
    • Prefer not to eat with strangers...you just never know
    • Prefer small table as we are shy
    • Each cruise has been different requests for us
    • Very unhappy if we don't get the dining table we requested
    • Make the best of whatever we get...it's a CRUISE!!

OK...another post got me thinking:rolleyes:

When you cruise, what size dining table do you request? Do you request different things depending on why you're cruising? Two-top for a honeymoon or anniversary cruise but willing to sit at larger tables with folks you don't know if it's a "regular" vacation? Do you like two-tops because you're shy or just don't like eating with people you don't know? Do you request to be sat at large tables specifically so you can meet as many new people as possible? What have been some of the BEST and WORST dining experiences you've had??:p If you don't get your requested table size does it ruin the dining experience for you?

You MAY vote for MULTIPLE choices!!

As it's always Mom & me cruising we like to meet as many people as possible so we always ask for a large table. We are still in contact with someone from our Monarch of the Seas table. Although when Allen & I went to China it was with a group and they booked the tables, though we certainly would have shared with anyone else.

With few exceptions (shared tables with my parents and sisters/brothers in law, etc) we always request a large table for eight or ten. We like to meet new people. My wife will talk the ears off a total stranger. She's been described as having that "bubbly" personality which comes with a constant nice smile:) . I tend to scare folks off:eek: (seeing a shrink for that)

Best experience: meeting (and still having contact) with tablemates from White Rock, BC, Quebec City, Que, Michigan and Florida!

Not so good experience; getting a table for four with our table mates, an elderly couple from East Germany, speaking only German (which my wife doesn't speak). We tried it that first night and then asked to be re-seated

We always request a large table. We love to meet and get to know new people. Sure, we've had a couple of real duds, but there always seems to be some really great folks at the same table. We have also gotten a table for 2, requested to be moved after the first night, and ended up at a fantastic table for 8 that had 2 seats available. Last December on Noordam, 7 of us from the CC roll call had our reservations linked and we had a blast. Twice on shorter cruises (5 nights) we ended up at a table for 2 and stayed there though we would have preferred a large table.

We prefer a round table for six. A round table makes conversation easier than a rectangular table.

If the others are willing, we also like to change seats, so we are not always sitting by same person. That really opens up the conversations.

I tend to scare folks off ...
Um, John - maybe if you quit insisting on wearing your piece to dinner ..... ;)

For us, we always have had a table for 8 or 10. We like making new friends. So far the dining companion gods have smiled down upon us. We have not had a bad experience.

Interesting poll, SakeDad. We really enjoy meeting new people, and prefer an oval table for 8. The only time we were seated with someone we found less than likable, we were on another cruise line. The great folks we meet at dinner on HAL ships is one of the things that keeps bringing us back.

My husband and I like a table for two for dinner - we enjoy that time to share the day with each other. We love eating in the dining room though and always eat breakfast and lunch (on sea days) there. We are seated with different people for breakfast and lunch and we really enjoy meeting different people each day. This is the best of both worlds in our opinion.

We like tables for 6 mostly because those are the ones next to a window or the aft windows:) I especially love meeting new people and over the years we have had many wonderful tablesmates and a few so-so table mates. None of them have been tablesmates from h*ll and several I have kept in contact with over the years. I would not mind a larger table but DH is convinced that the service is slower on bigger tables plus he tends to be a bit shyer than me.:D

We have never had a table for 2 and while it might be nice for a few nights I do enjoy getting to the table and discussing with tablesmates what they did for the day.

Thirty some cruises and have had various results. Only one real bad one where a gentlemans(?) first response after intro was to ask our religion. We got thru dinner and were asking to be reseated when his wife walked up and said they had gotten the early seating which they had requested at the beginning of the cruise, hence we did not ask to be reseated and had a great cruise with the two other couples after that and still keep in touch with them after two years.

I also stayed out of the casino after that figuring I had used up my luck!!:)

Most of our cruises have been with a large family group so we were all seated together. When just the two of us, we request a 8 or 10 person table.

I figure we'd connect with at least one person out of that number:D . We haven't had a bad table yet.

I now always request my reservations be linked with friends that we've made from previous cruises whio are traveling with us as well as new friends we've met through the CC.com boards - and occassionally invite new people that we meet onboard to join us as well.

Anyone table setting that serves food! ;)

Actually, I really never think about the table size, but we do check out the location of the table. That is more important to me.

We have had tables for 10,8,6, 4..and two. Never had a bad table in the bunch! :)

Cheers! :)

We like a table for 8 or 10 and its especially nice if it's a round table so everyone can talk easily with everyone else. We like to meet new people. On a recent cruise at introductions we found one couple that lived in our town. She even worked in the same building as my dentist! Small world.

I didn't answer your poll as none of the choices seemed to fit. I have always requested (and received) a large table; I've only had a bad table twice. Once I did about 20 nights with "the Hat Lady" before I switched, and another time I got away from a Pearl Mesta wannabe by the third night (don't ask  ).

The last two cruises I've been fortunate to be with so many CC'ers that we had two tables (6+6 and 6+8) and switched around every night. It was the best! :D
