First time Platinum...Benefits questions

We have our first cruise with both as Platinum coming up and have some questions. We will be on the Getaway.

1. Based on what I have read, we should get two meals at Le Bistro and two bottles of wine. We should have certificates for these when we check in. These will actually be for either Le Bistro or La Cucina. We can also make those reservations ahead of time online. Is all of that correct? It was compiled from several searches so just want to confirm that I got it all correct.

2. What is concierge service? What do we do with that?

3. How do we schedule the "Behind the Scenes" ship tour? I do not see that listed on the excursions. Is it as interesting as it sounds?

I think I understand the strawberries and wine, lol. Thanks for any help on these.

They will actually be in your cabin in a little paperboard half envelope. Yes, you can book them online or after you get onboard, but do make reservations if you want to eat inside Le Bistro, otherwise you will get stuck at the outside tables awash in the cigarette smoke smell from the above casino.

Meaningless.

You need to book it ASAP after you board. The tour will be the next morning and it will fill up fast.

Don't forget the free bag of laundry you get, but you have to turn it in no later than two days prior to disembarkation.

1. Yes that is all correct. The certificates will be in your room.

2. I've never used it. There have been some mixed reports about how willing the concierge will be to help.

3. There will be details of the behind the scenes tour with your pack in your room. You just need to register by a certain time. It is quite interesting. About 90 minutes or so. Usually goes to the laundry and kitchens plus other places like the theatre. They don't go to the bridge these days.

All correct, except that you get the certificates on board, not at check-in.

Not much that you can't do faster and more simply by yourself… :)

You won't get any information about that until you are on the ship. It will be included in your welcome packet in your cabin, with your invitations, dinner certificates, priority luggage tags, etc. They will tell you when it's scheduled for and how to reserve your spots. If you've never done it before, I think you will find it very interesting.

HI all!

I turned platinum on my Dec Epic cruise & missed out on the Behind the Scenes tour

as I didn't look at all the info on the bed upon arrival. It was held the next morning & even though I called the hotel manager there was no way to do it. They only had the one so if you want to do it act quickly. You can bet I'll be right on it for my Getaway cruise next May!;)

there will be a platinum packet in your room (just like your gold packet). You will get your two dinner certificates, an invite to the BHS tour, invite to the platinum reception, invite to latitudes reception, information on your two free bags of laundry. You can book your dinners online before your cruise. Le Bistro and La Cucinas only. Two dinners (1 app, 1 entree, 1 dessert). We always spend a few of bucks for additional apps.

2. What is concierge service? What do we do with that?

they can help you with show and dinner reservations. Their primary focus is the Havens guests, so platinum guest support is hit and miss. They can help you with priority disembarkation at ports and in Maiami. We always ignore this benefit.

3. How do we schedule the "Behind the Scenes" ship tour? I do not see that listed on the excursions. Is it as interesting as it sounds?

take your certificate to the cruise next desk in the atrium. Check the daily for hours. You must book on embarkation day. Fun tour done by the cruise next staff (others will pay shore ex $80 for a delux tour). Usually the galley, laundry, environmental, and the theater. We go on every cruise (5-6 times a year).

I think I understand the strawberries and wine, lol. Thanks for any help on these.

Berries and champagne will greet you as a platinum member. Take advantage of all of your benefits,,,, you earned them.

Do you know the difference between champagne and sparkling wine?

Champagne is sparking wine.

Champagne is sparking wine.

On our last couple of cruises we asked our cabin steward if we could exchange the sparkling wine for a bottle of red. He said he'd have to check for availability but both times they did it. We don't care for sparkling wine and never drank it on previous cruises so this was nice. Not great wine but drinkable.

Champagne is sparkling wine.

The bottle you get as platinum is sparking wine.

But that doesn't mean that the bottle you get is champagne.

Keith am intrigued by the concept of sparking wine-fireworks coming out of the bottle;)?

but to add

Champagne is French sparkling wine with a high price tag

Cava is Spanish sparking wine with less cost

Prosecco is Italian sparkling wine similar less cost

the sparkling wine provided as the platinum perk is really cheap stuff but drinkable with orange juice or to make packing on last day of cruise bit more bearable that the cruise is almost over:D

I always assumed the left over sparkling wine was used to clean parts of the ship with. I sure wouldn't want to waste good orange juice on it.;)

So is it something new where you can book your Le bistro dinners online before boarding? It used to be you had to pay for the dinners when you booked online. Maybe the new a-la-cart menu makes it different?

I have a tradition with my sparkling wine bottle we receive. On the last day of the cruise I get some orange juice from the buffet and make myself mimosas. [emoji4] Takes the sting out of packing up to go home. [emoji6]

Yes, that is how it works now. Nothing to pay when booking Le Bistro.

Just be careful if you also have a dining package. If so, book anything with a fixed fee like Teppenyaki or Moderno first to ensure the system thinks you will have credits to cover them.

That is good news! We had trouble in the past once the dining package went into effect trying to get a decent time. We will have the dining package on our 2018 cruise so I will make a note to follow your advice for the reservations. I am considering switching the internet for the dining package on our Baltic cruise next fall but haven't made my mind up yet.
