White after Labor day?

Go for it! I agree that it is one of the colors of the Carribean. Anyone that would point out white after Labor Day while on a Caribbean Cruise when the point is to be on a fun ship relaxing needs to mind his/ her own business and stop concentrating on what other people are doing. Have fun, wear white, and enjoy your cruise! [emoji1]

Not only is date important with white but latitude matters too. My wife said no white dinner jackets in Alaska.

Unless one is cruising a very formal line, I doubt you will see very many dinner jackets in Alaska at all. People just don't get dressed up- too busy soaking up the fantastic scenery.

I am resisting the urge to say here we go again, darn I said it out loud;)! Seriously though it is the Caribbean, white is fine any time. If you do a search this one has been covered a zilion times and the answer is always the same.

And who pays attention to a saying from a hundred years ago these days anyway?

White is totally fine year round anywhere, especially in the Caribbean. I think that rule no longer applies, I see plenty of designers/ stores advertise their "winter white" collections and as far as I am concerned white is white!:)

Yes, I wear white anytime. I stopped following that rule a long time ago.

Hi, I agree with the white in Carribean all year round:D

As for dressing up in Alaska.....I have to respectfully disagree with

"people don't get dressed up". I sailed to Alaska in May and saw

quite a few people having their photos taken on formal nights and they

were definitely in their "formalwear".....the photographers were in

the main foyer and I was sitting at the bar watching......the main staircase

is a great place for pictures.

Actually, one of the couples who I had dinner with...well, the hubby

was in his tux and wife was in gown......they looked smashing:)

You can still soak up the scenery and dress up for dinner:) (in my

opinion).

That was my experience too Lois; formal night was still formal night!

What to wear on a New England/canada cruise in late September?

I think someone may have done a post on this. You might want to do a search on it. I would pack in layers for sure! Perhaps someone who is more seasoned can provide insight.

What to wear on a New England/canada cruise in late September?

I have done a great many Canada/NE cruises, b-to-b going Boston to Montreal to Boston, and live in Boston. You will want long pants (jeans) during the day, maybe one pair of capri pants as the weather can be variable and we sometimes get what we call "Indian Summer". You will want layers including long sleeve shirt/jersey, short sleeve jersey, a hoodie and a light rain resistant jacket. Evening on the ship, you likely will not want sundresses but slacks/skirts and tops (assuming you are a female :)). Ship temperatures are always controlled to comfort level (of most) though if you tend to get chilly, bring a light sweater or wrap.

You won't want sandals for touring unless your feet never get cold. :)

It's one of my favorite HAL short cruises. Hope you enjoy it as much as I always have.

Thank you sail7seas, you have been very helpful! And yes, I am a female :)!

One more question: for the days that are not formal for dinner are pants and a top ok?

Pants and a top should be fine. I either wear pants and a top or a skirt for dinner. I all ways have a wrap. I find the AC cold on board ships. I wear white all the time in the winter when we cruise.

  • 1 month later...
One of my winter jackets is a white puffy kind of jacket. I love white jacket for the winter. I change up the hat/gloves etc. to add color.

Snow is white too.

White is fine anytime. I have a pair of white corduroy slacks, they are for the cooler seasons, even winter.
