Next generation princess ship suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow cruisers,

I came across this article about Carnival Corp's plans for new ships (http://www.travelpulse.com/news/cruise/carnival-contracts-for-four-next-generation-cruise-ships.html). I was curious what features everyone would like to see that is currently missing on the Princess Fleet?

Here are my top suggestions:

1. More multi-bedroom suites that can accommodate up to ~20 people (all the grandkids or a group trip!).

2. Underwater viewing glass window (thick pane of glass on one of the decks below water)

3. Dueling piano bar

4. Petting zoo

5. Sledding at sea indoor snow room - I think Norwegian may be onto something (http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2015/10/25/snow-room-norwegian-escape/74580272/)

Legitimate jogging tracks.

Space on each deck to charge scooters that will not impact passenger flow. (without having to park the scooter in the small stateroom).

Expanded room service menus and order/delivery at no charge.

Coffee makers/ tea kettles/ Espresso machines in staterooms.

Comfortable balcony furniture.

Dining tables in suites.

1 - Consistently selling a cabin of this size would probably be problematic.

2 - I don't believe passengers have access to any deck below the waterline.

3 - Alcohol and épées don't mix. No one should let a friend drink and duel.

4 - There's a reason this hasn't been attempted since Noah...

5 - Many people cruise to ESCAPE the snow. This would just be cruel.

My vote goes for:

Wrap around Promenade Deck

Smaller Ship

Ocean View Cabins

More Window Suites

Connecting Cabins (like an aft balcony cabin connecting to a port hole cabin...only 4 per ship).

The other suggestions were good, but I think if it is option or $$$, Princess will choose the $$$$. (Coffee machines/coffee card, etc).

Thanks for starting this thread. It will be interesting to see if Princess listens to their passengers.

Smoke free casino.

How about something no one in the major cruise industry is doing, SMALLER SHIPS

But they are my friend....Oceania, Viking, Seabourn, Azamar, to name a few

its just that Princess is selling off their ship to other...who refurbish and rebuild them for like 40-50 million each in improvements.... but alas no petting zoos or snow rooms....

Island Princess was sold and turned into a luxury ship after a 40 million overhaul.

Pacific princess will probably follow as several lines want to buy her and overhaul her.... So there are lots of these 600-800 passenger options out there.... just not on NCL.RCCL Princess Celeb or HAl

I agree smaller is better being on a floating mall is not what ocean travel was ment to be

A petting zoo is too much...really? Second funniest is the snow with sledding in the Caribbean...you have to be kidding. Go on the RCCL ships, they have an ice skating rink in the Caribbean! Equally ridiculous IMO. They have snow in CO at the ski resorts so go there.

What would be good is a stairway midship which they took away on the Royal/Regal. Put it back as some of us use it instead of the overcrowded elevators. Put Skywalkers back as it was a great place to watch the sea behind the ship and to watch the decks to the front.

Another ridiculous item is ice bars where the entire bar is in a walk in freezer. We live in the southwestern USA for a reason and that is to not freeze in the winter.

We like the current size of the ships. The RCCL's two gargantuan of the seas has to be the most ridiculous ships afloat today. Definitely not for us. I notice that their new ship is smaller but still too big at 4000 pax.

How about convenient plug ins for CPAP machines. Lots of seniors use them, and getting them positioned can be a challenge.

I ont use a CPAP but yes there should be a plug near the bed for those that do.

While we're at it more HC cabins in more categories. Why aren't they available in all category cabins?

The scooter charging station's not a bad idea, but it also needs to be secure.

I'd like to see Public Toilets near each bank of elevators, so often (in the first few days) you need a map and compass to find one, whereas if they were in the same location on every deck on every ship, life would be so much better.

When I think smaller, I think the size of the Coral Princess:). Maybe this would not be considered small to some cruisers, but to me it's the perfect size.

A few quick thoughts, may have more after I ponder this for awhile...

- Expand the Sanctuary concept to include a section of cabins, located near/adjacent to the Sanctuary space. (similar in concept to the Haven or Spa categories on other lines)

- Others mention a Crowsnest type of venue, simply relocate the Skywalkers forward and allow it to double as both daytime lounge environment and nighttime it becomes a dance venue.

- Bring the Piazza up several levels, instead of relegated to decks 5/6/7 – move it up so it’s on 9/8/7 or so, leveraging deck 7 for a full promenade (or maybe multiple decks for promenade as on grand class).

- Offer watersports from the ship, utilize space on lower deck to create a ‘sea platform’ where guests could use jet-skis, sailboats, etc while tendered or in ports.

- Create a true outdoor BBQ venue on an upper deck, real wood smokers or charcoal grilling.

- Figure a way to create a ‘moving walkway’ on one deck – maybe in segments. Simply a way to help those that are mobility challenged a method to traverse the length of the ship. Even I struggle with the thought of walking the entire length of the ship repeatedly at times.

- USB charge ports in cabins at desk/counter space.

- Audio/Visual interface on cabin TV's - USB, HDMI and analog ports for passengers to connect whatever.

- AUX input in cabins to allow passengers to connect media players to play over the in-cabin speakers.

- Mount the cabin phone on the wall - free up the desk/counterspace.

- Wall sconces at bedside, free up the bedside tables.

- Incorporate the wristband concept as RCI has. For everything from cabin access, charges/purchases and scanning on/off the ship when in port.

Replace the stairs on one side of the ship with escalators. This would ease the waiting for elevators by being used by those who don't want to climb regular stairs. Also, escalators would serve as stairs in the event of a power outage.

Locate the photo gallery in an out-of-the-way location.

Put enough treadmills in the gym so other passengers don't have to listen to the thump-thump-thump of joggers running around a deck.

Make every balcony at least 8 feet from cabin wall to railing.
