What's the Nicest Thing a Carnival Team Member Ever Did For You?

On your past Carnival cruises, what is the nicest thing above and beyond the call of duty that a Carnival team member did for you?

On a milestone birthday, a Carnival team member called my cabin to personally wish me a happy birthday. I was really touched that they took the time and effort to do that considering how many passengers are on a ship. That was on Carnival Sunshine.

Also, years ago, and I don't remember which ship I was on, but my SO wanted to know the recipe Carnival uses to marinade the jerk chicken they grill at Half Moon Cay. One night in our cabin, an envelope was left on the bed that had the recipe inside.

Sometimes it amazes me at the small ways that some Carnival team members go out of their way to make cruises special.

I'd love to hear what some of your "above and beyond" Carnival experiences have been. Carnival has some awesome team members that truly care about passengers.

The one thing that stands out was when we took our son on his first cruise aboard the Fascination when he had just turned 12 months old. Needless to say, it was a bit of an eye opener compared to our previous cruises. Saying that we were frazzled is a bit of an understatement :o. One night we were at the MDR and our son had thrown his cup of Cheerios all over the floor, clear across to the next table. My wife got down on her knees and started picking them up, one by one. All of a sudden, she felt a tap on her shoulder and it was one of the waiters. He helped her get up and told her "let me take care of that. Relax, you're on vacation :)". It was such a nice gesture and I think it was the first time during that cruise when I actually saw my wife's shoulders slump and relax. Small moment, but one that meant a lot.

That's a great story! Isn't it amazing how you remember those small acts of kindness and that they stand out to you even after years go by?

I have 2 from the same cruise.

1. Our stateroom steward, forget his name now, but he was wonderful, knew I loved the towel animals as I had been collecting them all week. I told my husband that I wanted to purchase the towel folding book and learn how to do it. So one night I saw our steward on our way to dinner and asked him if he knew where we could buy the book. He told us and then he said buy it after dinner and bring it back. I will teach you how to make 3. And he did. He taught us how to make a dog, a duck and something else. Can't remember the other off the top of my head. He said the dog has the body style of a lot of others so if you learn it you will have half way learned a lot of others! It was so nice of him to do that! Honestly what a great guy! Of course we filled out a survey about how wonderful he was because all week he was just amazing and that just topped it off!

2. My husband and I spend a lot of time in the EA sports bar on our last cruise on the Liberty. College basketball season!! Kentucky was playing and the bartender was pretty knowledgeable about the players and got into the game with us and was talking to us about it. We were ordering beer by the pitcher that night and I did tip him nicely, but before we left, he went into the back and got my husband and I a Carnival t-shirt!!!

I have 2 stories as well.

1. We were on the Splendor 2013 New Years cruise and I had promised my sister I would not gamble a lot (Boo!) so we spent a lot of time at the sports bar. The bartender at the time was Stanislov, who we got to know really well. My niece had come in 1 night to say hi and Stanislov evidently overheard my niece ask us to get the drink in the disco ball as she wanted the glass. Not sure what drink it was but it was something neither of us would drink. The next night when we were leaving he gave us 2 disco ball glasses for my niece.

2. I was on the Conquest, the weather was so bad, the ship was really rocking. The cabin steward came in to clean and I told her not to bother as I was not feeling well She came back about 10 minutes later with ginger ale and crackers. Thought that was the most considerate thing ever.

We were on the Dream...last night of the cruise, when we got some REALLY bad news from home. Guest Services was very helpful, and the next day, we had a personal escort off the ship. I really wanted a coke before we got off the ship, of course all the bars were closed, but she went and got 3 cans of coke for me. She stayed with us through the whole process, got our luggage for us, walked us through customs, and waited with us outside the terminal building until our ride showed up.

A few years ago we were on the Liberty with a large group including my mom and aunt, both 80+. We arrived back into Miami and prior to disembarking we couldn't find them. We didn't know if they left the ship or not.

I saw Butch the CD outside of guest services and explained the problem. You can imagine how busy he was at that point, but he stopped what he was doing, went into guest services and found out they had both left the ship. We found them by the luggage carousel. What a relief.

Great thread, I love the positive vibe.

I have a couple from our various trips.

We were sailing when our son was 10 months and my wife was close to 20 weeks pregnant with our daughter. We actually had to get a Dr. Not to cruise. One of the waiters on the

Lido would carry my wife's tray each time we came their to eat. I had our son and he always made sure she was comfortable.

On our last cruise I was looking at the watches. The sales person asked how I was doing, and if I needed help. She told me that she had sold me the watch I was wearing last year. I bought it on a Carnival ship, but thought it was part of the sales stick. She asked about the kids (our kids look like twins), which again I thought was a guess. My wife walked up and recognized the sales associate immediately. I was truly impressed.

Final one, a couple of years ago both kids lost a tooth while onboard. When we came back to the cabin one night. There were two ships on a stick and a note from the "tooth fairy". I thought that was pretty awesome.

A few years back, I had my had one particular server at the casino who would truly hustle to keep me from "dying of thirst". On this trip , I happened to be drinking Foster's "oil cans". On the last night of the cruise, this dear girl scoured the entire ship to find me the last can available! (Thank you Ni!)

What a sweetheart, eh?;)

On our first cruise aboard Fascinaton in 2008, our waiter in the MDR was Filipino. I said hello how are you in tagolog, which surprised him--I am white. We then had a conversation about "home." He asked if I missed Filipino food & I said yes, & that my family loves it when I make it, which is sparingly. He got special permission to make & serve us a Filipino feast our last night in the dining room! It was delicious & he was so proud to do that for us. Very memorable for the kids as well. :)

My wife and I became friends w one of the bar tenders in the Dream on our first ever cruise in August of 2013. We became fb friends and decided for our anniversary cruise in the coming April to book the ship she was on.

Well when we got to our room, there were chocolate covered strawberries waiting there for us as well as a couple other fancy desert dishes. Then on the day of our anniversary she sent us a chocolate heart cake at our dinner that night.

She's truly amazing and we ended up spending some time w her on one of our ports. We're very lucky to have met her!

On one cruise in particular it seems like everyone was complaining to the pursers.

I was having a great time and everything was going well so I stop by simply tell him that they were doing a great job and I was enjoying everything on the ship.

They looked at me and said really that's all you wanted to say?

I said yeah I just wanted to compliment you.

Purser asked for my name and room number I really didn't think too much about it.

Until a nice bottle of wine showed up in my room with a personal note saying thanks for making their day.

I thought it was A very nice gesture on their part.

Love this! For all the kids out there with loose teeth, they can rest assured that the Tooth Fairy can indeed find them on their cruise!

Now that is going the extra mile! Bringing ginger ale and crackers to your cabin to settle your tummy is a very thoughtful gesture. It's such a small gesture but certainly tells you something about that person. What a great story to share.

This is a WONDERFUL thread idea..I am writing my response before I read all things.

Remembering my name..I am a solo traveller and I have just been on 8 cruises I think now (last 2 being Carnival)..spread over a long time and soon soon soon my next one is coming..a last minute one as I just often with my work have to plan in about only 4 to 3 weeks in advance with saved airmiles to get me there..this site i have learned sooo much to help with my expectations and plans doing it that way. And it has just held me over..dreaming forever about travel living in cold isolated long winter area.

So I just say remembering my name..the clerks in the stores, the table server on the assigned dining cruise..and saving my wine there and having it ready pronto the next night on a 10 top singles table. One cabin steward always bringing me a tub of ice..I use to ice down pain stuff and I always want it in water, pop, ice tea..it is just a luxury to me i do not take for granted..not having an ice maker until 47..LOL and traveling abroad in my 20's I learned.

And on my second Carnival cruise my female steward..well both stewards seeing I needed a padding on harder beds I had and using either a comforter or egg crate to fix me up..pronto..and get the pillows I needed...they just notice the pain issues and really worked around my naps and everything..I tell you..the making themselves both available and scarce and the always saying hi..someone when you least expect it remembering you..I never felt alone on either Carnival cruise both with fun passengers and certain special team members...it wipes away all issues..and one can tell when sincere...it is wonderful...Sarah

Fascination, spring of 2010...

My digital camera's battery went kaput. The ship didn't carry the exact battery I needed...it was one of those weird shaped camera batteries. No more pictures until I could get a battery at the next port. I was fairly bummed. One of the ship's photographers overheard my lament and asked to see my camera. She opened it up and looked at the battery and told me to just use a couple of AA cells. Sure enough, it worked. It was such a little thing, but I remember feeling like she saved our vacation.

On our Dream cruise my then 18 year old dd was off-loaded in Belize with an apparent appendicitis attack. I went to the hospital with her, leaving dd on the ship to care for our other dd, who is special needs. Everyone from Butch the CD, to Guest Services went out of their way to make sure dh had access to a phone (for free) to call us at the hospital to keep updated on what was going on. A rep from Guest Services actually gave dh a brand-new carry-on, and helped him pack some of dd's and my stuff, so we at least had a change of clothes and some toiletries. GS then tendered the suitcase to me in the hospital! When we got back to the U.S. they followed up with phone calls to make sure dd was okay. They definitely went above and beyond for us!

I am really touched by the needs met with illness and "really bad news". That is all of our greatest fear anytime...when chips are down and I have always found ship or hotel...there is often almost more support there than at home with frazzeled family..this makes one supremely thankful and so free...inspite of any tough issues to be free to travel is one of life's greatest gifts to me.

Also touched by the coke story..since a big loss coke is too much my friend but it absolutely satisfies and helps like nothing else to me..LOL.

For my 50th we cruised the Panama. First formal night we were all dressed up ready to go to dinner, when my DH went for his black shoes. Shock horror I'd not realised I'd left them at home. Ship hire shop had shut by now and DH was throwing a strop saying he was going to dinner in trainers! Called attendant who said leave it with me, by this time DH is taking his suit off. 10 mins later knock on door reveals attendant with 4 pairs of black shiny shoes in varying sizes. He said the hire shop guy owed him a favour. He was well rewarded. Phew

I really like these stories. It's the little things you remember the most. On both our cruises my daughter ordered something that she didn't care for from the main dining room. When the server saw she hadn't eaten much they went out of their way to get her something else to try. She didn't want to burden them or be too wasteful, but they insisted that she be satisfied. Also on our recent cruise our room steward knew all 4 of us by name. She could see us from behind, at the other end of the hallway , she would yell out our names to say hi. If I lost track of my family members, she would know where they were just from chatting with them. I was very impressed with her.

Last year we learnt the proper way to get coconut meat out of its shell from Shaw, the table artist on the Inspiration last year. We learnt the Filipino Coconut song from the waiters when they saw us practicing our newer acquired skill.

Ran into one of those waiters a few weeks ago on the Inspiration. The Lido is an odd place late at night :p

In July on Freedom, the woman who ran the Bingo was so sweet. I wish I could remember her name now. :o My 16-year-old son won $100.00. Later that night we saw her and she asked my son what he was going to spend his money on. Several days later on debarkation morning we were hanging out on the Promenade waiting for our number to be called. She walked by, stopped to chat, then asked my son if he'd hired a limo with his Bingo winnings to take us home from the airport. I couldn't believe she would remember us twice, and days later, too. My son got a kick out of the attention. :)
