single supplements

I know when I was researching the different lines that Emerald has 2 single cabins per ship, so those for sure wouldn't have the single supplement. In my Tauck catalog, it mentions no single supplement in category 1 on most sailings.

I'm sure some of the board veterans will have more options for you too.

From what I've seen, river cruise lines tend to be much more flexible on their single pricing than ocean cruise lines. Of course, the base price is a lot more to start with. :D

I think you are missing the actual "no single supplement" deals. There are cruise lines with single cabins, whose fare is always a little more than the per-person cost for two people sharing a regular cabin, but much less than double. Then were are special offers where the single price for a regular cabin is either the same as the per person cost for two people or close. Keep looking!

In the lower cabin categories the single supplement is usually less than double; it is only on the balcony and suites that they want it all.

I got no single supplement on my Ama Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City cruise (in November 2017), but the land portion still has single supplement. The offer was only for the lowest cabin category, but that was fine with me on this cruise.

On my first river cruise, Uniworld's Tulips and Windmills I was in a category 4 cabin (the second lowest) and paid no single supplement.

Find a travel agency that specializes in river cruises (online or in person) and they should be able to tell you about the single supplement deals.

I have been traveled on 15+ river cruises as a single since 2001. I have found the best deal has always been GCCL. Their single supplements are usually only 15% of the full fair. You don't get all the bells and whistles that other lines have (I really don't need a pool or spa on a river cruise) but for me they are the best fit.

Hi Ian Blair,

Policy differs from company to company, but for example on our ships, we feature many single specific cabins, and when those are not available, our single supplement typically is about 25% of the cruise fare.

You can always call in and ask about single specific pricing or specials - we often offer truly waived single supplements. Sometimes it is more clear when you speak to a cruise specialist.

Bon Voyage!

When I recently shopped GCT for a cruise for three of us based on their late 2016 specials, they would not take a reservation for a single even when I asked specifically about a single supplement. All they would reserve for was a "male share" request.

Many lines waive the single supplement for the lowest cabin category as has been mentioned. Most sites have a "Specials & deals" section where these are listed. Lines will also waive for sailing dates that are not selling well.

Good morning, As someone who always sails solo, this is a question that

has been asked for years. I think part of the answer depends on the

person and how comfortable they are with the overall total price.

I just took my first River Cruise in April on AMA Waterways. I booked the

category E and the Single Supplement was waived. Now, if the price

after the waiving would have been more than I wanted to spend, then

I would not have booked the cruise.

I am so happy I booked my cruise.......it was in my top 2 cruises

ever:D

Looks like you have another thread asking about this too.

AMA Waterways has cabins without a SS. I sailed with them in April and

the category E has no single supplement. It was an awesome cruise and

I am sailing with them again next year too:)

When I booked my last trip with GCT they told me that only one SS is allowed per rate class. Most of their ships have four rate classes so only four SS would be booked for each cruise.

Also, most of their last minute deals only apply for double occupancy.

If a particular sailing is not fully booked ie, the first or last of the season, some lines will waive the single supplement on any category other than suites. Check the Uniworld website, there are quite a few listed.

As Katmu said, Emerald Waterways does have 2 single (called ES category) rooms on each of their ships. I had a friend who was able to nab one for our recent Danube Delights cruise. Even better, the cruise didn't sell out, and they gave him a free upgrade to a normal 2 person stateroom when he went to check-in! He was glad to have the extra space (think a single room is about 100 square feet, whereas a normal cabin is about 175 square feet).

I recently booked a panoramic window cabin for an Avalon river cruise on the Danube in 2017 with no single supplement. I thought it was an excellent deal since most other lines restrict cabins with no single supplement to the lower categories with the two high Windows, (which I do not want.)

Maybe other river cruise lines have allocated some panoramic view cabins (full Windows) for singles without supplements, but I haven't seen them yet.

I looked at the Uniworld solo traveler offer and it looks like the solo traveler can reserve any category except suites: "Waived Single Supplement applies to select dates and itineraries only; does not apply to suites; not combinable with other current savings or promotional offers. Category upgrade charges apply."

Lois, I just read your review of your recent cruise on the AmaStella. I'm also a solo traveler and I'm so happy to hear they have cabins with no single supplement. I'm definitely thinking of booking a river cruise in 2018. Thanks so much for writing your review.
