Just booked the Getaway for this November. Wondering what are some of the things that you loved about the ship and on the flip side what did you dislike? All comments are welcomed . Any helpful hints and advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :D

Going on the Getaway next month and again in September. Lots of great tips on Cruise Critic, and I got some great port info too. We haven't sailed NCL since the SS Norway was in service.

Looking forward to a more relaxed ship. We have our reservations set for the specialty restaurants, and my DH is very happy that I am only having him wear Dockers and a button down shirt 1 night.

I'll be sure to post here when I get back from my cruise next month!

Loved almost everything about her. Beautiful ship, and I really enjoyed the Waterfront. Dislikes: Mai Tais and Moscow Mules are rubbish but most of their drinks are excellent. Worst thing is they made me get off the ship at the end of the cruise.

this was our least favorite ship in the fleet. this surprised us because we love Breakaway. for us, the service was just "off". there wasnt anything specific that we would put our finger on.

that said, we are trying her again this fall, but in the Haven.

In over 20 years of cruising, including Celebrity, The Getaway is my all time favourite ship. I loved everything about the public areas -

Million Dollar Quartet - amazing. We don't do shows. MDQ - BOOK IT!

La Cucina - its a massive fail on every other ship we have been on. On Getaway its right there amidst the lounges and action and I think that's why its SO much better on there than the other ships. Wee tip, if Sugarcane is busy and you cant get a seat, grab a drink from there, and sit at the wee bar at La Cucina - its a super people watching spot.

The Thermal suites are awesome.

The bad? The cabin.. :( That's the trade off. The cabin I loathed. It was hopeless.(I prefer Epic's cabins would you believe) .. That vanity area  - every time, make up and hair products stored in the stool - had to tip all the contents twice a day on the sofa - to be able to do my face/hair .. there is NO vanity area storage - its inside the stool (which doubles as a mini table)

Think we had a spa mini suite.

The balcony is really toatie (Scots speak aka very small!).

That didn't bother me too much we don't use the balcony much - the trade off for that great ship was worth it.

Love it.. sadly dates/places just don't work for us, meanwhile stuck with Epic. ;p

Other than cabin - its an 11/10 ship...superb!!

Lobster rolls on the waterfront

DrinkingTomas while singing at Howl at the Moon

It’s our favorite ship.

Casino is a blast! We aren’t big gamblers but always come it ahead.

Staff is awesome and friendly - I think we have been on her 4 times and it never got old.

Don’t pass on the “game shows” in the Atrium. A real blast.

Have fun fun fun !

On our first cruise, we were left with the feeling that we didn’t see and experienced everything as we disembarked after seven days ... that’s a good feeling! So, so much is going on at all times that you can’t see it all on one cruise. We really like the dinner show.

This! And to some degree we had the same feeling on Escape but moreso in Getaway. We wish we had discovered Howl at the moon before the last night!

Water slides and rope course are great, as is the Waterfront if the weather permits.

The spa is okay, but not as good as the Epic.

The design of the buffet didn't really seem to work - there was more queuing and more difficulty getting seating than on any of the other ships I've been on. Le Bistro is also not designed particularly well, unless you like being stared at.

For all the nice features, I left feeling that I'd only sail on her again if I wanted to do the itinerary. I prefer the Epic or the Jade.

Was on the Getaway in Jan '15 and will be again Jan '19 cuz I like the itinerary.

Hate is a strong word but here goes. No more Flamingo Grill. No more Grammy Experience. No more carry on pop/water. All these additional/increased costs from NCL.

Love: Affordability of a balcony cabin. Entertainment, The Grammy winning Sugar Blue, Blues Harmonica player in T.G.E. Groove International doing a Bob Marley tribute. Food, Water Slides, Rope Course, Miniature Golf, Ping Pong & Food. Banana's Foster and Hard Ice Cream from the Garden Cafe. I listed food twice cuz I Luv it!

It's really all personal preference. Educate yourself on C.C., do some pre-planning, & roll wit it! :D

I did not hate anything. However the things that were not as great as Epic.

No tiered seating in Spice H20

Smaller spa

Smaller Haven plus no ocean views from Haven lounge

Gym and nightclub seem an afterthought compared to Epic

Open air restaurants to public walkways not as good as closed ones on Epic

What I loved

The waterpark

The waterfront boardwalk

The cake place

We love the abundance of activities for our kids; water slides, ropes course, etc.... They choose a vacation cruising rather than go to Disney because of this. That makes me happy!! We have yet to try to Vibe or Haven. We will have to wait until we don't take the kids with us to try that but it sounds amazing.

Having been a RCCL cruiser for our first 5 cruises, the ship was weird for me. It seems more "boxy" up on the sun deck area. I am not sure how to describe it. There just seems to be large boxy walls around that interrupt the "flow". I also did not like the bathroom locations. On RC, it was always very easy to figure out where the bathroom was. You walk into the door, they are right there. It seemed on the Getaway, they were always in weird locations. Yes, I got used to it after a couple days but it was something that stuck with me. Another thing for me is the pools. The main pool is small! Also, when we sailed last time, they did not allow any kids in the main pool. I can understand that to a point to keep is less crazy. But the kids pool is like a dungeon. The water level is way below the edge and you feel like you are in a cave. It is also quite small so when you are in there with a lot of kids, its gets crazy.

Clearly, neither of these things deterred us from going on the Getaway again. We leave this Sunday on her again.

Spent three weeks on the Getaway oct/nov 2017.

Good:

Shanghai Noodles for lunch on sea days, it fills up VERY fast, though.

Evening drinks outdoors at the Sugarcane Mojito Bar.

Afternoons at Spice h20, it get incredibly crowded during the evenings.

Early mornings in the atrium/O'Sheeans, before the rest of the ship woke up.

Not so good:

Crowds, crowds, crowds. Lunch time by the pool or pre dinner by O'Sheeans. Or after dinner at Spice h20.

Pool deck layout, feels small and very hard to get some sun by the pool. Lots of stupid walls, giving shade to the entire deck. Chairs fills up really early.

Conclusion:

Would avoid this class of ships during school breaks. Would def. book it during the off season.

Would have loved to see it on a bit more odd route, like South America.

I think this is what I mean about the "boxy" style of the sun decks. Tall walls blocking view and sun.

We love everything about the Getaway! She has been our favorite cruise. Booked it again for the western itinerary in July. My family and I both agree that the Waterfront is one of our favorite areas in the ship, especially in the evening. The ropes course and of course putt putt golf!! We always get the mini suite on the Getaway just because we prefer the shower in there as opposed to the regular balcony rooms my parents get. The food has always been delicious, never met a buffet I didn't like, lol. Actually I am very picky and the ships buffet has always been immaculate! Have fun and enjoy your cruise!

We said the week after Thanksgiving 2017 and had a wonderful time. Didn't notice any of the issues I had read about here. I didn't find anywhere to be so crowded that it was unenjoyable, service was great, there was smoke in the casino but not overwhelming (we don't gamble but walked thru lots of times). We had the drink package and no kids with us so it was a great week! I would do it again
