How can I get a PVP?

Have done several mock bookings of late and used my VIFP # but have not been

contacted by Carnival. Want to work with a PVP rather than the 800 # customer service. Any suggestions?

I believe you can ask the 800 number for a PVP. I have had one since my 2009 first cruise and that is how I got mine. He is great.

I would just ask them if they can get you to a really good PVP. I wish we could give recommendations here, but I think its against the rules.

Call the PVP line, 800-819-3902 during their business hours and ask for a PVP. Chances are that you already have one if you’ve been going online and entered your VIFP number. If you call the regular 800 number you will most likely end up talking to a regular reservations agent.

Mine is great too; honestly I wish he worked for a different cruiseline because we rarely book Carnival. He "found" us; I started getting periodic e-mails and phone messages from him after our 2010 cruise on the Destiny, which I'd booked on-line.

To those who are saying they have a great PVP, can you please elaborate on what makes them great? I’ve probably had at least a half dozen different PVP’s but only used them twice. I didn’t think they did anything more than make the reservation that I had already done all the leg work for. They gave me the same room I would’ve booked on my own and the price was exactly the same as if I booked online. Since then I just do my own bookings when I find a cruise and room that I want. I wonder why some on this forum have had the same PVP for so many years, yet I feel like I get a phone call or email from a new PVP every six months to a year.

When I first got my PVP, I was brand new to cruising and he helped me pick the cruise, room type and area.

Since then I have learned a lot about cruising and the ships, but I still always use him for my bookings. I don't know everything and any questions I have, he answers right away. If I need to make changes or add people or rooms, he does that for me. I am not sure if you can add a person to your room on your own online, but I prefer his expertise and help in all of this. I certainly don't want to make a mistake when a simple phone call to him is all it takes for me.

It doesn't cost anything to have a PVP, so I figure why not book through him? That way I have my own personal expert there for me too.

He also is not one of those PVP's that call and bug me either, I call him when I am ready or have questions. The only time he ever called me on his own is when he noticed I had a free casino offer and just wanted to let me know. I was very grateful for that.

She knows all cabins, not just ones on computer which I can see.

We got ours through a recommendation by one of the users here. You're not allowed to recommend them on the board, but I got the name through other means. We were originally assigned one by Carnival, but we didn't care for him at all. We were constantly playing phone tag and he wouldn't answer short, simple questions via email. He'd insist we call him, then we'd play phone tag for a couple days, which is exactly why we would email him in the first place.

The first time we called our newly recommended PVP was several months after we booked our last cruise. We just got back last week, but booked almost a year & a half ago. We originally booked with members of my wife's family and we paid for them up front, then they paid us back. Several months after booking, they cancelled on us, which made a mess of the whole booking. The cabins were screwed up because our son was rooming with their kids and the financials were screwed up because we originally paid for theirs. We made an arrangement with them to wait before they officially canceled because we had to find a friend for our son to take and put him in that cabin. But we found out they were going to call regular customer service (because they didn't know about PVP's) sooner than we agreed. So we quickly contacted our new PVP and he spent a good 15-20 minutes straightening everything out for us, on a booking that wasn't even his. We found out that if the other couple had called cust. service first, we would've been screwed even more because the original booking agent put the financials in the wrong name...one of theirs. And if they had called first, none of that would've been corrected. We're grateful for him helping us considering he didn't even book it and never spoke to us before then.

Since then, I've called him a couple of times with questions and he's always glad to help. We haven't had a chance to book through him yet, but I'm told that he cruises Carnival a lot, therefore is familiar with many of the ships/itineraries and can be helpful along those lines.

My PVP is great because so far he’s very responsive to questions and issues. As an example I booked a cruise in February. In April my cousin decided to come along with a friend. She booked through our PVP And he got us rooms next to each other, linked our bookings (dining etc) and he did it in seconds.

Another example is since I’m new to cruising I find he has good information regarding room location(s). We used to book just anywhere, but he introduced us to the kids and panorama decks, which we enjoy.

A great example is one time I called because there were no balconies showing on the deck I wanted. He said nope I see plenty. I would’ve had to settle for something else had I not called him.

Other helpful things, reminders about payments, alerts me to promotions, has information on my travel companions, he’s given great advice about ships and on and on.

Most of these things I could do on my own but it would eat up a lot of time.

I tend to do my research up front, as firemanbobs wife suggests. However once I got my PVP I've counted on her to help me out with a ton of stuff. When we wanted to book our cruise it was so far out that the time we wanted wasn't available. She had been keeping an eye out and as soon as it was online, she called me. We discussed the various options, she was able to help me understand which cabins connected through the cabin, which ones were able to open the balcony divider... she ensured we had the type of cabin to fit 3 people that we wanted (sofa, not an upper bunk). She made sure I understood what I could prepay, what I could purchase through the Fun Shops, what I could add to our reservation later on. A million questions and she answered them all, correctly I might add!

Generally she is very proactive, but doesn't bug us unnecessarily. It's great to ping her with a quick email question and get an answer within the hour, usually!

I called that number and said that I was thinking about booking a cruise and asked a question.

I already knew the answer to the question,

but wanted to find someone who was well spoken and patient.

I talked to three.

The first I had trouble understanding her diction.

The second was impatient.

And the third one I went ahead and booked with and we have been working with her now for years.

We used to have a great PVP and she even gave us her cell number to contact her. When she wasn’t available she gave us a name of another PVP a friend of hers. She was great, so of course she got promoted. We now have one that’s pretty good, but not like our first !

Thank you to all who have answered my question about what makes a great PVP.........now, if I can only find one! I have done the internet search as one poster has recommended, but it’s subjective. I’d like to find a great one that someone can give me examples of what they have done for them, like those who have posted here have done. firemanbobswife, can you suggest what exactly to search for? Thanks for everyone’s help.

I wish I could be more specific. Sometimes the answer is staring right back at you.

Blarko, I think you need to read firemanbobswife's message signature closely.
