DH and I will be on our first cruise on the Equinox. Scheduled date is June 29, 2019, Western Caribbean. We will be in a balcony cabin, deck 7, starboard side.

What are some fun things on the Equinox, some things not to be missed, and some things to avoid. Looking forward to hints and suggestions. Thanks.

Silent disco is fun to watch or partipate in.

I see you have been on the Solstice, the Equinox is almost identical to the Solstice. Since your cruise is after the redo the cabin decor will be changed, venues will probably be changed so It’s hard to say what to avoid or not miss.

In February we really enjoyed the following::

Free tour of the kitchen

Lecture on how the ship runs

Crew versus passengers archery

Free sushi making demonstration

Art shows

Casino, of course!

Burgers from the mast grill

Bands at the pool

And we are looking forward to the hot glass show next month, as it was shut down on our Feb cruise.

There is no hot glass "show". There are hot glass classes. I tried multiple times to view a class in July and never saw any thing of interest. We thought the burgers at the Mast Grill were great/ I also enjoyed the lighter lunch fare in the Aqua Spa Cafe.

We were on Western Caribbean Cruise on the Equinox in March.

Things we enjoyed:

-Hot Glass demo on first day (after which you can sign up for fee classes to make something)

-Silent Disco

-Gastropub (great beer selection)

-Trivia

-Slush Bar (Starboard side of outside pool heading forward toward Solarium)

Ports:

Key West - Hemingway House (if into Literature), fun walks, Eating Conch fritters, eating key lime pie.

Grand Cayman - Turtle Farm

Cozumel - snorkeling either from shore or small boat excursion

There is no Lawn Grill restaurant (where Hot Glass activity is)

There is no Cellar Masters (replaced by Gastropub)

Hi

We are looking forward to our trip oct 19 but concerned that our forward cabin may have part of the ships superstructure below the balcony obstructing view down to water. Does anyone know how far this extends back? we are in 7129 port side.

Thanks

Because you'll be on after the ship comes out of dry-dock for its re-hab, many of the specific onboard venues mentioned on the thread might be a bit different, so be aware of that.

In general, as folks are already chiming in, it's a lovely ship and it ought to be even more enjoyable once it comes out of the upcoming "spiff-up".

In terms of excursions, if you're into history that somehow got left out of lots of "Western Civ" textbooks of decades past, then a little bit of advance reading followed by an excursion to Chichen Itza is a terrific thing to do in Cozumel. If it's in your budget and you don't mind small planes, the flight option gives you more time on site than does the over land, but the land trip is much cheaper and closer to the ground!

I find that Costa Maya day makes for a perfect "stay on board" day for me--others can fill you in on worthwhile excursions there, but, if you're new to cruising, I do recommend that you consider one day in a port to stay on and enjoy a nearly empty ship--but others would disagree ( thank goodness, otherwise we'd all be on board!!) :-)

The following link will allow you to "stack" decks so that you get a pretty clear sense of such things.

We are not new to cruising, just new to Equinoxes. I aware that the ship will be coming out of dry dock a few weeks before we board. That is exciting.

Not sure what we will do in Cozumel, so thanks for the suggestion of Chicken Itza, we will check into that.

We have been to Cozumel a couple of times. The other ports are new to us. Really looking forward to Key West.

Like you, we do enjoy being on the ship while in port. We have never been to Costa Maya, so may get off to walk around a bit, and be back on the ship in time for lunch.

There are different types of live music in different venues every evening. You will be on Equinox shortly after her refurbishment, so some new venues may be added as well as some new shows.

Happy to hear this. We were on the Solstice for our cruise to Alaska, night time music was lacking. Glad to hear the Equinox will have music at night.
