What is a jumper?

A jumper is, I was told as a kid, something you put on when your mum is cold.

Hahaha I love it!

A jumper is basically a pullover sweater, with or without a hood. We generally refer to the ones that open in the front as a cardigan.

But that is what a Catholic school jumper is. I wore one for years. Just put thick tights on and sweater and winter coat over our blouse & wool winter jumper.

Yes, this is a jumper in the U.S. Sometimes it's in a solid color and a blouse is worn underneath. Girls wear it in private or parochial schools usually until 8th grade, about age 13.
