CincinnatiGal Posted June 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I would love to see RCCL improve its room TV programming options increase some. Does anyone know if RCCL ever reviews what programming channels they offer to their guests? I sure would like to see some better channels!:)
tserface Posted June 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2016 Although I don't go on cruises to watch TV there are times when it's a nice relaxing thing to do. I'd be grateful if they'd just get the systems from Celebrity (sister class) ships (like on Silhouette) where you can watch something for a while then pick it up later throughout the cruise. It would be nice if it didn't cost $11.99 to rent a movie you can't even come back to if you can't finish it. Really, $11.99 for a released to DVD movie? Clearly they want you up in the mall or casino. Tom

loubetti Posted June 3, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I cruised in the days when there was NO TV in cabins. Didn't miss it either.
George C Posted June 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2016 RCCL used to have lots of free movies on TV, would be nice if they had what Celebrity has, but I like the DVD in suites so we bring movies and TV series we can watch when we want ( Hal has dvd player in all cabins) , I also cruised before cabins had dvd's and balconies
mek Posted June 3, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 3, 2016 The TV on our Grandeur cruise in November was great and on the Serenade in April, it was the worst we have ever had on any cruise., so at least on that ship it needs to be fixed.
luvscruising2007 Posted June 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I am in the don't care group. We seldom even turned on the TV during our last cruise. We spent time on the balcony or out and about the ship.
EntropyGuardian Posted June 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I like how such-and-such ship having a new such-and-such type of internet is BIG news, also it is VERY important if you get good Wifi services, internet package prices, or internet privileges for crown and anchor levels... ...but TV is just NOT needed. I'd never watch a TV on a cruise! *while posting on cruise critic while on a cruise* I agree, the TV movie selection was pretty lame on RC vs when I went on Princess. The TV channels are all pretty boring and lame and the shows repeat endlessly. Every time I flip through I'd see the same episode of That 70's Show or Two and a Half Men. So I mean, if you are bummed about missing half of something, don't worry it'll be playing again that week. And tomorrow. And later that day. And right after this on repeat three times. We'll watch TV while we are having breakfast, or before/after one of our many naps, or before we went to bed. But it is indeed pretty dumb. I'll end up watching the shopping nonsense about tacky turquoise jewelry or Del Sol because I'd rather see that the same Big Bang Theory episode again. OCruisers Posted June 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 3, 2016 We took cruises back when cabins didn't have TVs ... and we still very seldom cut ours on.
Rare island lady Posted June 3, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 3, 2016 In cabin TV programming used to be pretty good on the ships. Usually at least two stations with second run DVD movies for free, and several satellite TV stations. Then the movie channel went to one...now it is none...unless you cough up the $$ for a rental. Don't know why they can't show movies in your cabin on TV that they show for free at the pool screen and theaters. They already have them, why not show in cabin also? Sometimes it is nice to just chill in the cabin on sea days, or rain out days and watch a movie on TV if you don't feel like reading. Now the in room TV has reruns, foreign language, and RCI banging their own drum with totally obnoxious advertising. Some that are years old with ships that are no longer in the fleet! And of course spa, excursions, pay to eat restaurants...on and on. :(
BeachChik Posted June 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 3, 2016 Doesn't matter to me as don't go on cruises to watch TV. I knew several people would post this. I don't cruise for tv either but it would still be nice to have something good to watch in the evenings while we are just relaxing. And everyone cruises for different things. I don't cruise to go somewhere and sit by a pool or a beach since I can do that when at home. But many others do. If someone goes on a cruise and wants to watch tv then good for them. Their vacation their choice.

I never sit by the pool, as the sun is not kind to me :( which frees up a chair for one of the chair hogs :p....but would love to have the option to watch a movie on a sea day sometimes. Shannon12 Posted June 3, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I have terrible tinnitus so I always have a TV on just to drown out the sound in my ears. On our first cruise the only thing on was From Justin to Kelly....over and over and over again lmao. The TVs have not gotten any better.

We keep the ship's location channel on most of the time, since it has soft jazz music playing. That might work for you? Agree the TV programming is really horrible on cabin TV's. RCI not keeping up with the times, even your basic Motel six has better programming!
Hotel CA Posted June 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 3, 2016 One of the values (if you can call t that) of having decent TV channels is following news, sports and weather while cruising. Princess gives you a local channel and a decent news channel at least--Royal gives neither. It is funny that the very same people who seem to be deeply interested in internet speeds and service will say they don't need nor watch TV on a cruise. Electronic entertainment takes many forms and one is not 'better' than any other unless that is what YOU like it seems. Well I do agree with that--the best is whatever I prefer<sheepish grin>
dixieva Posted June 3, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I would love to see some better TV channels on RCI. On our Carnival cruises we had ABC, CBS and NBC as well as a couple of news channels. It was great. I don't cruise to watch TV either but there are times when I like to chill out in our room, or there might be days that I don't feel quite up to par and would love to be able to watch some TV. Does anyone know if RCCL ever reviews what programming channels they offer to their guests? I sure would like to see some better channels!:) I will for sure be one of the few that agree's with you completely...I like to watch TV in the evenings in bed or when DH decides to do something on the ship I don't care for or am to tired to do. Charging $11.99 for movies that have already played in the onboard screening room or out by the pool is ridiculous..this is exactly what happened to us a few weeks ago on Adventure...never noticed they were the same  With all the new technology I would love to see an improvement in onboard programming....JMHO and maybe more than would care to admit it ;)

This is great to know. I too was on Serenade in April and it was horrible. I'll be on Grandeur in August so I'm glad it'll be an improvement. I was on Coral Princess in May and they had numerous channels in addition to playing The Love Boat continuously. While we don't watch a lot of tv while on cruises, it's nice when you have a choice when you want to watch.

CincinnatiGal Posted June 3, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I would love to see RCCL make an effort to improve TV channels in the room. I watch TV when we are in the room and like to have TV at night before I go to sleep. I also would be interested in some satellite radio channels for the rooms too. Just an idea I think RCCL needs to conduct a needs assessment of where they are at in communication & media options to the customers online in their ships. They might find some changes for the betterment of their customers are needed as much if not more than climbing walls, and ice rink shows.
Aboat1 Posted June 3, 2016 #22 Share Posted June 3, 2016 Count us in! Would LOVE to be able to catch some decent TV and a chance to keep up on the news and weather back home on our cruise. Enjoyed Princess's multiple channels when we cruise with them.
kbubbles Posted June 3, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I agree that Princess does this right. I love to have the option to watch something as we get ready for dinner or to fall asleep to. It is also a nice option for me on sea days, since I'm not a sun seeker either.
dixieva Posted June 3, 2016 #24 Share Posted June 3, 2016 I have been on Grandeur lots of times and there has never been any good TV stations. I just got off Grandeur a few weeks ago and the TV stations were awful as usual. Several cartoon stations, many RCI channels (advertisements) one news stations that was not in the US and the reporters did not speak English and one news station that showed old news! They talked about stuff that happened months ago. Maybe the poster who said the TV had good channel selections was on after I got off.
nelblu Posted June 3, 2016 #25 Share Posted June 3, 2016 Some years ago they used to have a channel called, I believe, Me TV. The programming was comprised of old tv shows such as Burns & Allen, Ozzie & Harriet, etc. Enjoyed while dressing for dinner--brought back such good memories.
