Athens tour company

Recommended Posts

we will be arriving on a cruise ship into Athens and dont have a flight out until 315pm. We have been there once before, but we wanted to go to the new museum at the parthenon. Anyone have any recommendations for a tour company or private tour guide that would pick us up at the ship, take us on the tour and then take us to ATH airport? thanks so much

We were quite pleased with them. We went to the Acropolis where we listened to the Rick Steve's Itunes walk. We needed more time, so we just called down to our driver and he waited for us. We should have timed things better because the sites were on winter hours, and the Ancient Agora was closed by the time we got there around three. Otherwise we saw everything listed. I do think there is a law that prohibits the driver from acting as a guide at the actual site, so whichever driver you get will give you back ground before the enter site.

Any idea of how much the Nikos Loukas tour costs? I'm trying to establish a budget for this trip and whether it would worth putting together a shared grop tour or doing the ship tour.

Just back from the Med.

We had a wonderful day in Athens with Paul from Athens by Taxi. We did the full day tour which included the Parthanon then out the coast to the temple of Posidan.

We did a lunch stop at a great restaurant.

If you get the Professional tour guide, make sure you communicate how detailed you want them to go. Ours went too far into the history of everything - after 15 min at each stop, we just were falling asleep. Our fault for not communicating we just wanted brief discriptions so we could see more. She did a great job, just too much detail.

Hi All

We used Private Greece Tours for our trip to Athens a few weeks back. We had Frank as our driver and he was excellent. Got us to the sites before the crowds hit to get the best photo's and visited viewing places where the larger tour buses cannot get.

Would definately recommend and would use again when next in Greece.

This will be our first time in Athens and we are leaning towards booking a 1/2day tour and the hanging around the
Plaka for the afternoon. Does anyone have advise on how we can make our way back to the port without any hassle? What would the cost be? Any "must see" sites that we should see in the afternoon ?

Hi

We chose the full day Athens tour and it was 8hrs in total for 400 Euros. We had 12 people in our group which is the maximum they can do without quoting special pricing.

Hope that helps

We used Private Greece Tours both last September for our Athens tour and again in early May this year. Both experiences were excellent. Last year was our first visit to Athens and our driver Alex, along with our guide Villeas did a wonderful job of showing us the city. They both were very knowledgeable and made the trip so much better than if we had been on our own.

This year, since we had already been to Athens, Nikos, the owner of the company took 8 of us to Mycenae and Corinth and it was truly one of the highlights of our 11 night cruise. Mycenae was amazing. Nikos also took us to an excellent restaurant for lunch in Corinth that overlooked the sea with wonderful breezes and great food! Nikos did a wonderful job of telling us about the Greece countryside, which is also quite beautiful. If we are lucky enough to go back to Greece we will definitely contract with Private Greece Tours again, I highly recommend this company. :)

Thank you all for you information.
We have 12 people and I think we are going to book for a whole day but do the afternoon at our leisure and be guaranteed a ride back to the port. This seems to be what the group wants. The cost for the whole day is 400 euros and half day is 300 euros. Really we are only spending an extra 10euros a head and will get back to the safe and sound.

That would work with them. Basically our full day tour we were given plenty of time to wander around Plaka and enjoy lunch and then we only left to go to the museum but he would have accomodated whatever our group wanted to do so just let them know and they will work with you.

We will be only two people, ending our cruise early in the morning, and with a few hours before we must get to the airport. Because we will have luggage, we'd like to get a taxi and stow the bags in the trunk. We want to take in a few sights, have a nice lunch and do a little souvenir shopping, then go to the airport.

Do we need to arrange this in advance, and if so, recommendations?

We just return from another wonderful cruise to the Med. Since we have visited Athens a few times in the past, we decided to hire Private Greek Tours to do a private tour for us. Nikos Loukas, the owner, was great to deal with. He was always prompt with answers to our questions and so helpful to plan a day suited for us. Lambros Petropoulos greated us at the port with a big smile and a nice Mercedes taxi. His information about the sites and his life in Greece was so interesting, and he was great getting us to the places before the big tour buses hit. We booked a modification of their Athens and Cape Sounion tour, which was approximately 8 hours and 260 Euros for the two of us. It was one of the best tours we have ever taken, and at the end of the day we felt like Lambros was our new friend in Athens. If you are looking for a wonderful tour company, my husband and I would highly recommend Private Greek Tours! :)

As Jeanne said, 8 of us spent the day touring Mycenae and Ancient Corinth. I arranged this tour based on Jeanne's recommendation from using them last year and was not disappointed. Nikos was easy to work with, his price was reasonable, and a good time was had by all. I can highly recommend using his company, whether you get him for your driver or one of the many great drivers that work for him. Edited by zelker

If you are thinking of hiring a private tour company in Athens, my husband and I highly recommend a company called Private Greece Tours. The owner, Nikos Loukas can be reached via email at: nikosloukas@privategreecetours.com
We initially found this company last year and I was a little hesitant giving my credit card number because I had no idea who we were dealing with. Let me assure you, you have NO WORRIES!! Nikos does not charge anything to the card and you pay cash after the tour is over. They are a professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy company that I would highly recommend to anyone.
What I like is that you can either tell the company what you want and they will accommodate, or, you can ask them to plan a tour for you and they will build it around your wants. The owner, Nikos Loukas, takes a personal interest in each of his bookings and tries to come and meet the clients as they tour with their driver.
This May we took a second tour with Nikos’s company in Athens, with the same great driver we had last year, Alex (the Great!!). By this second tour, we really felt we were meeting a friend, certainly we were treated that way. This trip we were accompanied by our daughter and son-in-law. Alex knew exactly the best agenda to suggest, we had a great day, and the kids loved it. He timed our tour so that we got to see first hand the changing of the guards, which was a real highlight for us. He took us to a point in Athens that provided the best city look-out point with a breathtaking view of the city. We feel we have two true friends now in Athens, Nikos and Alex.

We have just returned last Saturday from our cruise and used Nikos Loukas at Private Greek Tours and cannot recommend this company enough. We had a group of 13 and Vassilis was our guide for the day.

We did all that we wanted in Athens and then on the way to Cape Sounion we visited a typical Greek Restaurant for refreshments.

We would have no hesitation in booking a tour with this Company in the future. They were true to their word in every respect.

We had a cruise stop in Athens in May. We booked the full day tour with privategreecetours.com. Nikos was very easy to book the tour with before our trip. We really enjoyed the tour. The price was very reasonable too. I would recommend emailing Nikos with the amount of time you will be in Athens and they can customize your day trip.:):):):):)

I do all kinds of research before booking excursions. If you are reading this you wont need to do the same work I did. As part of a cruise in May 2012, I contacted Nikos at http://www.privategreecetours.com/. Communications (from Canada) via email couldnt have been easier. Nikos offered one price for just my family (my wife and 19 & 13 year old kids) and another if I arranged for 10 people. It was easy to find 6 other people who wanted to join the tour via Cruise Critic. Nikos met us at the terminal and provided an excellent tour. He provided lots of personal insight and told us all we needed to know before getting to the various destinations to tour on our own. I listened in on other large group tours (as noted on other replies, the driver cannot provide the tours) and they were hearing the same information we had already heard.
Nikos is extremely proud of his country and is happy to share his passion. His insights on timing, where to go for lunch, and places to see where the large impersonal group tours cant reach made for a fantastic day. I strongly recommend using the link above and book your tour. You really wont regret it.

We recently returned from the Solstice cruise and used athensbytaxi for a 1/2 day tour. The company is extremely professional from making the reservation and following up promptly. Nick was the best driver who navigated Athens traffic so smoothly. He got us to the Acropolis before the crowds and we never felt rushed. Highly recommend!

We were travelling with two teenage girls and besides The Acropolis, the highlight of our Athens visit was trekking to the top of The Church of St. George -Lycabettus Hill. The view is amazing!!! Paul Kalomiris, the owner of Greek Taxi Tours, is very responsive via email.

I had the pleasure of going on the Argolis - Full Day Tour at the end of May/12 with Private Greece Tours. Our guide for the day was Petros, and he was WONDERFUL. We went to the Corinth Canal, Ancient City of Corinth, Mycenae, Nafplion, as well as a couple of quick stops along the way. The day was perfect, and we all raved about it. Petros was very accommodating and extremely knowledgeable about the area. We had a lovely lunch in the beautiful town of Nafplion. I would highly recommend Private Greece Tours. I had already seen the Acropolis, so this tour getting out of the city really allowed us to see parts of Greece that most don't.

My wife and I and our 4 kids (ages 9, 16, 20, and 22) did a private tour with Athens Tour Company in late May. We had an amazing time. Nikos, our driver, did a marvelous time making sure we were at the right place at the right time (e.g. we drove up to the changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace with about 90 seconds to spare) and we were able to see most of the major sights in Athens. Helen, our tour guide, was also great. She was a wealth of information at all the places we toured and arranged our day so we were minimally impacts by the large tour bus crowds. I highly recommend their services.

We are thinking of getting a group together from our roll call to share an excursion in Athens. Since we don't have any idea how many people there will be, I don't have enough details yet to book anything.

Does anyone mind sharing their pricing for using Nikos? How much for how many people, assuming it was an all day tour? I don't want to bring it up until I know it is within our price range.

12 of us on the Equinox June 1 sailing took an Athens tour with Nikos of privategreecetours.com. The price was 400 Euros.

Admission to the Acropolis and the museums is additional but we lucked out and arrived on one of the free admisiion days.

Due to a possible transportation strike our cruise itinerary was changed at the last minute and we docked in Athens 2 days earlier then scheduled.

Even before I could contact him to make sure he knew and was still available he sent an email saying he would be at the pier to meet us on the new day.

My husband and I will be in Athens prior to our Aug. 18th departure on a cruise to Itanbul. I am in touch with Private Greece Tours and would like to share a private tour with one, maybe two other couples, so that we can hire a driver plus a guide. August is rapidly approaching so let me know if you are interested in pursuing something. Thx.

Thank you for this..... that is definitely doable for our group. Athens is actually my very time in Greece. I loved Italy/France/Spain and was wondering how different Greece would be. I usually try to learn a few words in the local language, but Greek has me confounded so I really need a good guide!

OK... he is lightening fast on Email!!!

I added a link on the blog site with info about the tour he emailed me. They are saying 400 euros for 12 people which I think is a great rate. I checked out his reviews on Trip Advisor and they were awesome.

Hubby and I are two, so are there 10 others that think they may want to join? If there are lots of folks, they will do another bus; bit it is a flat 400 euros per vehicle divided by the number of participants.

I know, I know I'm a planner and we have 279 days to make a decision.

I'm going it ourselves in Dubrovnik, this is Athens so I guess this afternoon I can start planning Izmir. I would just kill me to do this out of date order!

We used Private Greece Tours while on our May Med cruise/Athens. Thanos (Tom) was our driver guide. We would recommend this company, and Tom, over and over. A fantastic day, a well educated and friendly driver, and lots of great laughs and discussion on history, and present day goings on. Tom got us to the sights in front of the crowds, escorted us into a great restaurant, left us to our own as a family, and was always waiting as soon as we were ready to move on. Thank you Nikos and Tom. Wonderful!
