You may bring two at a time. The way I understood from the RCI rep was you would need to go off the ship between weeks and get your next two. We are also b2b, I plan to buy another two bottles in San Juan on our shore day

Why bring a bottle on board, 3 glass of wine per bottle (approx.) @ $6.00/$7.00 glass.( I drink the cheaper wines) Your still NOT ahead of the game!!!:(

I'm just buying mine on board, you get more for the buck!

Am I missing something here??

I think most of us like the convenience of having the wine in our stateroom. As long as it's opened in the stateroom, there is NO corkage fee. I like a glass on the balcony, or while "getting pretty" for the evening. Others prefer a special/specific wine that isn't available for purchase onboard.

I read on this thread(cant find it now) about a wine store on the way to Port Everglades. We are flying in on the day of the cruise and should be in about 10:15 am on a Sat.-to board the Oasis. I would like to have the cabbie stop so I can buy some J Lohr. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Harry

You dont understand because you drink cheap wine and you are also confused because you drink cheap wine, the onboard price of "one" bottle carried onboard by some may actually equal your entire cruise drink bill but would only get you an extra few glasses ashore:)

Cheap or expensive wine, it does not matter the savings are high. Ships and restaurants wine pours are usually small they get 4-5 glasses per bottle, at that rate you pay up to 5x7=$35 for a cheap bottle of wine that you can get at the store for 3-6 a bottle. You could save $60 by bringing in a two bottles and drinking them in your cabin. That is why I buy the wine package for dinner and bring their $35 bottles down to $25, instead of drinking wine by the glass.

Now if you are bringing expensive bottles in, you could see even more savings.

But in any case I like sitting in my balcony and drinking a bottle of wine while working on my computer or reading a book. Or even just having a glass of wine prior going to dinner. Now I don't have to go to a bar get the bottle and come back, the bottle is just there waiting for me.

I still believe my liquor tab will be rather high, as I tend to drink quite a few mix drinks a day, plus add to that the wine package for 7 days. This change in policy is more of a connivence than a saving factor for me.

Bravo RCCL!

We are thrilled RCCL has altered the policy. I would like to see RCCL have a scale depending on cruise length – something like

1-5 nights = one bottle

6-11 nights = 2 bottles

More than 11 nights =3 bottles

They also need some sort of rule for B2B cruisers. Anyone on a B2B has both set sail passes so security can clearly see they will be onboard for the next cruise.

We will likely bring ( we did in the past when it was allowed) some of our better wines. Even with the corkage, it will be worth it to be able to enjoy some of our preferred wine at dinner.

We have a nice wine collection and like to drink certain wines for special occasions. Many of our cruises coincide with the occasions so now we have the best of both worlds.

Cheers

M

Good job RCI!

Now if only you would allow passengers to pre-order a bottle of liquor to be delivered to your cabin. We just recently cruised on Carnival. My BIL is a scotch drinker and likes a drink in his room prior to dinner. Carnival allowed them to order a bottle of scotch which was waiting for him when we boarded. Believe me his bar bill was still very high at the end of the cruise as he still bought drinks in the bars and casino.

Maybe someday but until then-kudos on the new wine rule.

Total Wine 1906 Cordova rd located at The Harbor Shops Plaza near Port Everglades (around the corner). From FLL take US1 north and turn right onto the A1A, look for Cordova Rd and turn right. The plaza is sort of hidden from the A1A so it won't stand out. Endless selection of wines from all over the globe, enjoy!

Hi, this is the chat I had with a RCI rep Thursday (11/1) night:

"

[9:20:56 PM] Guests are not allowed to bring beer or hard liquor onboard for consumption or any other use. Effective 11/01/12 guests wishing to bring personal wine onboard with them at the beginning of the cruise may do so, limited to two (2) bottles per stateroom, but when consumed in any shipboard restaurant, bar, or dining venue, each bottle shall be subject to a corkage fee of $25.00.

ATLD: [9:21:33 PM] Thanks, so we would need to carry the wine on and NOT check it?

Laurie: [9:23:05 PM] that is right.

"

Still no update on the RCI website or Blog. So we'll find out in a couple of hours as we board the Oasis today and we have two bottles in a carry-on.

Awesome, I was hoping someone would try it on the Oasis today, would you mind posting an update later on if possible?

I would assume that the bottles would only be permitted with carryon bags. Damage to others personal property can occur if a bottle was to break in one of the checked luggage. Imagine opening your suitcase to find your clothes for the week have been ruined with red wine stains from another passengers bottle of prized merlot .

for quite a few people, (myself included) they prefer certain wines. Most of our favorites, for instance are boutique wines only sold by the vintner or through local resellers( such as Taste of Monterey.. oh how I miss being stationed there)

did I find some nice bottles on board? absosmurfly. don't regret one bottle choice we made on the package. But the two bottle of Bernardus Marinus I have been hoarding for 5 years are special to us and I want to enjoy it while watching the sunset over the water one night.

as for 3 glasses per bottle.. damn you must either have REALLY big glasses, or really small bottles. we routinely get 4-6 glasses pb and I am in no way stingy with my pour. and some bartenders can squeeze 8 per bottle. I have seen it often.

We'll use the benefit to add to our on board wine purchase, not take the place of it. I never expected I would try to bring on all I may want to drink

Marci

Oh I know and agree...........I just like being able to bring 2 bottles ,no matter the length of the cruise.I'm glad RCCL has finally come around..

Thread is starting to get to long -- can someone restate what the actual policy is (i.e. # of bottles) -- is it per person or stateroom and method of getting it on the ship (i.e. carry-on??) Thanks!!

2 bottles PER STATEROOM (legal adults only.. so no stateroom with minors booked may bring on board)

as for bringing it on board, I will only do carry on as I don't want to take the risk of breakage( plus I have a small c/o for this purpose)

they DO make some good travel items to pack them in your luggage(again, Taste of Monterey sells them and I bet any other decent wine merchant would as well) the one I remember closest is basically a wine bottle shaped pouch of bubble wrap. you slide the bootle in, seal and Voila!

I called Royal. No size limit on the bottle.
