Sure but what about homemade wine? or a wine bottle that is half full?

Are they goning to request you uncork it so they can smell it or shake it to death to inspect it?

I've made my own wine for almost 30 years, and like any decent winemaker have a HV corking tool and a supply of real corks and wraps. I suppose if you are a winemaker, you'd have the tools to game the system, but why bother? As for a half-filled bottle, my guess is that they'd confiscate that at security, since you're not allowed to bring opened bottles of anything through a TSA checkpoint.

Looks like there is a way to "Ask Adam", seems to go thru facebook which I don't use.

Maybe someone could ask RCCL on their official blog. Hopefully they will confirm US same as UK. Maybe they are working on size of bottle limits and deciding about carryon or checked. I think a Carnival like procedure where it must be carried on would be easiest for RCCL.

It's somewhat of a deterant to bring as much as you can b/c you have to carry it so that should save them money over allowing it in checked luggage. And the heavier bags for workers and chances of breaking bottles are issues as well. We have two cabins but would likely bring 2 or 3 bottles instead of 4 just b/c they would be heavy to carry around until cabin openned.

You could use a "butler's friend" corkscrew to remove and replace the cork without leaving a hole.

I'm not saying it should be used to replace the contents, but it comes in handy if you want to save some of the bottle for another time.

You still have to re-lead the bottle;). A wine bottle with a naked cork would raise a bunch of red flags:)

This is great news if true. Forget about the wine, take the bubbly! And if you want to swap out the contents, the plastic "corks" on a bottle Korbel could easily be replaced and re-wrapped and no corkscrew required. We cruised carnival in the spring and they didn't take a second look at my two bottles of korbel (it was korbel though). Room steward kept it on ice for us until it was gone. LOVED having a little bubbly before dinner!!

It will be interesting if it is 2 bottles per cabin rather than one bottle per adult. I have 3 cabins with 2 adults and 3 kids on our next cruise. 6 bottles sounds wonderful to me!!!

The people bringing wine will have to be of legal drinking age so unless the "kids" are 21, don't bother.

Edit to add: 18 for European sailings

Does anyone know where we can get Jose Cuervo, or Jack Daniels in wine disguise bottles? We must smuggle!

YEP!!:D Best way to "kill the goose" is to start a very visible and active thread within hours of the announcement positing the best ways to game the system.

Ok, so maybe not six but what 4 would be good. Adults are booked in separate cabins.

Looking forward to official word. Checked my korbal stock and the wrappers might be tough to redo. I'll just sit back and wait for the experts to figure out the best method. Either way. I will be very happy even with a bottle of wine or bubbly.

Don't know what brand of margaritas you drink, but skinny girl makes pre mixed margaritas that are in a wine bottle. They probably wouldn't even notice you aren't bringing on wine.

That was exactly the brand what I was thinking. same shape , size, etc. like I said alcohol content about the same

What happens if you pour out the wine, pour in something a little bit stronger and re-cork and seal the bottle?

do you have any idea how difficult it is to cork a bottle?! or how expensive the machine is to accomplish said task?

screw tops only, and well as far as the foil goes.. again, anyone who has half a clue will recognize a tamper/home job.

Good news but a little pricey I think if you're going to drink it in the MDR. NCL charges only $15 a bottle, the difference being that they charge the fee whether or not you use it in the MDR or not. I only drink wine with dinner so at $25 a bottle, I might as well drink it on board. Good deal for the big wine drinkers though.

I just called royal. Was told 2 bottles per cabin. Corkage fee applies to bar or dining venues, not in cabin. Cabin attendant will open bottles for no fee. Claimed all their port personnel have been informed . Had no info on bringing it carry on / checked luggage and website has not been updated as of yet.

OK... I'll stick my neck out there....

It will be nice if they followed Celebrity's lead on the whole balcony smoking policy too.... It'd be nice to relax out there with a glass of wine smoke-free! ;)

I SO agree with you Jayfo on the smoking policy. We get a balcony to be able to open the door and enjoy the sea air, but if we get a smoker next door we have to keep the balcony door closed so we don't have to smell their smoke. I love Celebrity's policy on this...and also their (Celebrity's) policy on not allowing smoking in the casino.

I cruised with Celebrity in Jan.Same policy with them.......2 bottles per cabin............However,I cruised with a friend(not my husband) and we each had 2 bottles(1.5).We really thought the policy was 2 each....

Since we each went thru a different security line,we walked on the ship with 4 bottles........

I am not saying that is what i would do(knowing the rules now).I am happy enough now with RCCL allowing us 2 bottles per cabin........

just wonder what size bottles they are talking about...or will they allow boxed wine??

I am willing to bet that the limitation for size is to a standard 750ml bottle... However, RedCat does come in the new 4-bottle pouch!!! Does that count as 1???

Another RedCat lover...thought it was just me. Haven't seen a "pouch". Also the only place I can find it is Total Wines and More. Is that your source also?

Yes, this is THE BEST NEWS. This will not inhibit the purchase of the wine package or our alcohol consumption, but will enhance our enjoyment and relaxation of a private drink before circulating with the others.

Thanks,

Kathryn

I imagine it will have to be in your carry on.............don't need the risk of bottles breaking and wine spilling all over your suitcase and others!

Fellow cruiser just posted on rollcall that Royal has changed its policy and you can now carry two bottles of wine onboard ship for consumption. Subject to a corkage fee of $25 each.

Called RCCL and agent confirmed, policy change went into effect today.

I realize the cruise lines have to make their money but I've always thought it was crazy to have to pay them a "corkage fee". Just sayn...:p

I am simply amazed at all the post of how to scam the system. Re cork bottle filled with stronger alcohol , bring extra-large bottles, bring some for my “kids” cabin, etc.

After reading these posts, would anyone be surprised if RCCL decided it was not in their best interest to offer this wine option to passengers. If you want to scam the system go ahead and try but it might be best not to advertise your methods here.

When on celebrity we each had 2 bottles in carry on. We made sure we were not together when boarding, a few passengers between us. No problem getting 4 bottles on. They were the 750ml size. Would be interested if 1.5 ml would be allowed. Don't think so!!

That is what we did on Celebrity. The rules on their page did not specify size and we went with 1.5L..........not trying get away with anything and they did not blink an eye.
