Love those Toots!!! Sorry Chief... they do make the sailaway that much more beautiful. Listen to her!!! Hope she is not doing that because someone is in her way. Nah... it is because we are here!!! ;)
I love them also. We were on the Westerdam last Feb and it was so much fun when he blew the horn so many times.
She sure does not look to be sailing with a full crowd. Unless a lot of people are in the MDR.
But she is beautiful.
Early seating has started....Glad we have late fixed. Early dining=sometimes missing Sail-Away!

Technical Question: Was that a Coast Guard boat or a Fort Lauderdale Police boat escorting her down the inlet?

I have seen this type of boat as well as what I know are the zippy Coast Guard boats during past sailaways, but I have never been sure as to what that gray, larger than the zippy Coast Guard boats was.

If you look to the right and just above her name (Noordam), you'll see what's known as the 'diving board' that hydraulically retracts in the hull. On that diving board is one of the bridge officers who, at that location, is in charge of instructing the linehandlers which line to release first. He does that on orders of the captain (or staff captain) whoever is taking her out. At the aft mooring deck (no diving board there) is another officer doing the same with the aft mooring lines and line handlers

Thanks for this information.

That was beautiful. Thanks Dave and Lou at Port Everglades Web Cam for the coverage, Cruise Critic for allowing us to do this and for all of our Cruise Critic members for sharing their passion of sailing on Dam ships.

Agree, Sail Away at dusk was very special.

Thanks

What do we look for on land for the port cam location? Sailing on the 18th and someone on our roll call has requested a banner wave.

Thanks

The folks need to be on the Port Side. To get a zoom shot they should request a wave. The following link shows how to schedule a wave and also shows the condos where the camera is.

Basically the Web Cam are the last condos before leaving the harbor. Almost close to where the Noordam horns were first heard tonight.

That was a Broward County Sheriff RHIB. USCG Station Ft. Lauderdale has several also but they have an orange band around their hulls
