Running into people you know on a Cruise Ship

Yep, it's happened twice. Last spring we were on the Oasis and our daughter went to the Kids Club. I picked her up and she said there were two kids from her school in the club. Sure enough.....they were a couple of years older than her, but we ran into the parents later on in the cruise.

The other time we were on an excursion in Nassau to the Blue Lagoon. We heard someone shouting my husbands name. It was a long time friend that had made a last minute trip to Atlantis and was on the ferry to the dolphin encounter with us. They weren't on the ship with us, but was still weird running into them on a ship excursion.

It definitly is a small world.

A couple that were at our table in the MDR years ago live about a hundred miles from us. We have bumped into them on two cruises since then and have become good friends.

We are now booked on the Explorer in March of next year for the first cruise with them that is planned.

I was told today that I'm booked on a friend of a friend's wedding and honeymoon cruise. They're getting married on board, then many of their friends and family are cruising with them. I had NO idea when their wedding was (other than a vague idea of ~soon~) when I booked the other night.

That should invite some awkwardness!

Haven't actually been on the cruise and run into someone, but my mother was recently telling her neighbour about the cruise DH and I have coming up on Voyager... You guessed it, her neighbours are taking he same cruise. I will be on the lookout for them!

On our 12-21-2009 cruise I ran into a girl I worked with as a computer programmer in an office of about 35 people.

On our 06-02-2013 cruise I ran into a guy I worked with as a Sports Photographer. (I did prof. sports photograhy on the wk. ends) there were about 5 photographers that I worked with.

On our 9-6-2013 Cruise I ran into the people we sat with at the MDR on our

12-14-2012 cruise.

This happen to anyone else?

It's a small world!

Hehehe, I can almost picture this happening to us! My fiance is a lot like his mom, and anywhere they go (no matter what part of the country) they both run into people they know. It really is a small world.

As for me, no... I am not that lucky!

Funny story..my uncle was a high school football coach for a number of years...he swore almost every place he visited...every vacation he went on...he would see at least one of the guys he coached...bet if he went on a cruise the same would happen!

Have never run into anyone I know on a cruise, but it most certainly would not be a negative if I did. Nor would it affect anything I do on a ship.

Hi there!

I wonder do you realise that the way you have set up your signature throws the page width way out so that I have to scroll back and forth to read what everyone has written.

It might just be my computer but it's quite disconcerting - just saying in case you weren't aware!

Interestingly enough, this hasn't happened to me yet and only once has it happened at Disney World, and I go to WDW a lot. This is quite surprising to my fiancé, since she is always saying how we can't go anywhere in town without me seeing someone I know.

Happens to us on almost every cruise. Cruising from San Juan we will know dozens of people, but this happens to us everywhere. On our first Baltic cruise my husband was approached by a crew member that he evaluated once. RCCL refers him patients for emergencies. On our first caribbean cruise with our children I started to talk to a lady on the kiddie pool, long story short, her husband knew mine from the hospital they both trained in Pittsburgh. This summer in the Baltic, one of my girlfriends saw her OBGYN in Berlin buying an ice cream, and he paid for it!!:confused:The list goes on.... the Caribbean, the Med, Alaska, the Baltic... we can't hide!!

Slightly off topic, sorry, but what I've noticed is that inevitably I will notice a person or family in the terminal waiting to board or maybe in the WJ right after boarding and then see them all over the ship the rest of the time. There will be people I have never yet seen on debarkation day but it will seem like these particular folks are tailing me. Anybody do that?

Maybe we are lucky or maybe not LOL, I guess it depends on your personality. I would not call them dear friends but aquainteses. We have been recognizesd by crew many times, even at times called by our names, I do not know whether that is good or bad LOL

Met people we know

ON Cruise ships, Brillance, Navigator(2), Freedom, Monarch.

On tours to UK, Italy,

We attend a large church in Buffalo. On our second cruise, we were seated at a table with a couple from our church whom we had never met. Now we see each other on Sundays and reminisce about how we met.

It has happened to me three times!

First time on Freedom we were on an excursion with a girl who turned out to be our niece/God-Daughter's best friend up in Canada.

Last month I was walking down the stairs on Enchantment and heard my name called and it was two young people who had been in the high school marching band with our son! They were all grown up now with three kids of their own, but 14 years later they still recognized me!

This month on Freedom we were having lunch in the dining room at a table for 10 with people we did not know. Got to talking about where we all lived and one couple lived only a mile from me. Took a good look at them and said that they looked familiar and they thought the same thing about us! Turns out they were part of the same Band Parents association that we were for the high school marching band, and the man had been one of the chaperones on a trip that I was in charge of! Actually knew these people for three years quite well, but had lost track of them when our sons graduated.

It truly is a small world!! :D

It has happened twice to us. Once as we walked through the casino i was tapped on the shoulder and it was a friend who knew we were going to be on board(another friend had told them) and then in May i heard my name and turned around and was delighted to see a friend from long ago.

While the odds seem huge...it does happen.

Back in February...we came in a day early for the Southern Caribbean Adventure of the Seas cruise.

We randomly picked a restaurant for dinner and ran into my brother's former girlfriend (and her new husband) purely by chance. While the early moments were slightly awkward...we ended up dining together, and learned they were on our same cruise - and we met them onboard multiple times.

Small world - even at sea.

MY DH is a former coach, too. [34 yrs] We laugh about it --but, this happens to us, too. It is not always a former player, but someone that knows him.

This happens so often that we have even devised a method for introductions. If he remembers their name he will introduce me immediately and tell me their name. If he can not remember their name he just starts talking without introductions. Then I stick out my hand and introduce myself by name and they will almost always tell me their name. :p:o:D

I know it seems rude that he would not introduce me, but the reality is that most people we run into are so surprised to run into someone they know that they just start talking and ignore me anyway!:o

I wonder if your screen is very small? Mine doesn't do that and I'm zoomed in at 125%.

Not happening. No problem at all. Perhaps you should adjust your zoom size.

Ran into one of my clients who was celebrating an anniversary. Had a bottle of champagne delivered to their cabin.

Sat down at random with someone in the Windjammer and discovered they were my Dad's neighbor.

My DW often meets customers from when she was a parimutual teller.
