Info Received Today re the Oasis Drydock

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend and I were planning on getting married in the Wedding Chapel whilst at sea so I will be disappointed if its removed. Not sure where else on the ship we would like to have the ceremony. Will have to wait and see I guess.

I know someone getting married on a Freedom class ship, and they told her if there are too many people to fit in the chapel, they will move the wedding to the forward lounge on deck 5.

Why do you think its being removed? It could just be moving to another location on the ship

I'm pretty sure that the crew has a standing game going on about who can get the passengers to believe the best rumor and post it on cruise critic. I think they get points for every rumor mentioned online, plus points for creativity.

In each rumor there is always some truth, the question is, just how much is truth, and how much is fiction?.

One thing I have learned very well over the years is that I don't believe any rumors until they are actually completed and can be confirmed. I really believe that crew start rumors so things like this continually happen. I have seen very few rumors become reality!!!!!!!! IMHO!!!!!!

Like the rumor about Navigator getting a flow rider? It was really cool reading from all the marine engineers around here about how it was structurally impossible.

In July 14, I was told by Royal Romance the Chapel and Pinnacle lounge are being removed from the ship during dry dock. This was disappointing as I wanted to use the chapel for a wedding because it's on deck 17 and away from crowds. Other venues I was offered are Dazzle Lounge, Blaze Night Club, Jazz on 4 and the Viking Crown Lounge.

Time will certainly tell. It does not reflect in the deck plans that are in effect after dry dock. What they do with the Presidential Suite, Royal Suites, and the Pinnacle Lounge will never come into play for us.What they do with the Concierge Lounge will but that will only happen if & when we go on Oasis again. The changes were meant to generate more revenue for the ship.

I have employees. Those employees love gossip. And from that gossip, they like to start rumors! Employees thrive on rumors. Just sayin...

I really don't think this rumor is true. First of all I have a group on the Oasis in December where we are holding private functions in the Viking Crown. If this was to be true, I'm sure I would have been notified in regards of changing the venue.

I agree but with the uncertainty of the VCL, I decided on Dazzles. There's has not been any speculation regarding Dazzles changes so I assume there are none planned. I know RC is not adverse to last minute "surprises".

Like others, I am surprised that there has not been any official announcements (aside from Cats) from RC on proposed changes on post dry dock cruises, which are less than 60 days away. I hope the poster who posts dry dock ship yard pictures does a thread on the Oasis when she is in the shipyard. I remember in one thread there was a picture of a piece of paper with all the updates listed.

The new Concierge lounge will actually be almost right above the Windjammer on Deck 16, so the move makes sense. From my conversation with the attendant, the intent is to provide extended dining service for the suite guests through the concierge lounge and completely eliminate any need for suite guests to ever set foot in the Windjammer.

We only set foot in the Windjammer to see it on our January cruise on Allure, never ate there (we were in a Deck 10 JS, which was very convenient to the CL). From Deck 10, the CL on Deck 11 is far more convenient than schlepping up to Deck 17. I am skeptical that RCI will inconvenience the majority of suite passengers, who reside on Decks 6-14, in favor of a relative handful of loft suites. Perhaps they are hoping that the relocation of the CL will enable them to sell them instead of giving them away as upgrades.

Interesting rumor, reasonably plausible too. Would not take too much to convert some or all of the VCL into a C lounge. Prefab cabins can also be installed fairly quickly? Interesting info.

We're just finishing a 7-day on Oasis in crown loft suite #1748. According to our cabin attendant (who will be working on Deck 17 on the revamped ship) the drydock will be bringing big changes to Deck 17 and Deck 12:

Moving the concierge lounge from Deck 11/12 to Deck 17

Adding cabins to Deck 12 in the space vacated by the presidential suite.

Removing the Viking Lounge to make make room for the concierge lounge

Removing the presidential suite completely

Adding two new royal suites to Deck 17 (not lofts, just suites)

Eliminating the Pinnacle Lounge and Pinnacle Chapel on Deck 17 to make room for the new royal suites

In all, he said there would be 40 additional cabins.

I apologize if this info is already out on cruise critic, it's hard to search the forums on my iPad from the ship!

You are correct. I was booked in the royal suite on the Oasis for the 10/27/14 cruise, and received a call a few days ago that they had to cancel my suite for major renovations to that room until the December , 13 2014 sailing. I think they canceled that suite for the westbound TA cruise too.

Did they give you an alternative?

So it was the Royal Suite that was cancelled.

In a post several weeks ago someone had mentioned that it was the royal suite that they were turning into 6 new cabins and then adding 2 new royal suites to replace it on deck 17. No mention in the earlier post of any changes to the Presidential Suite.

We have stayed in the RS on Allure and compared to the cabins on deck 17, I think it is a good more on RC's part. The cabin was huge but really you only needed half of it.

We almost always stay on deck 17 and to be honest the VCL is hardly utilized. The bar tenders look bored 95% of the time. They also "cook" sitting behind all the glass. We have seen the VCL and Pinnacle lounge used for wedding receptions, private events, and suite guests getting to meet the senior officers. That might total 1.5 days use of a 7 day cruise.

The areas that are proposed being changed are lovely spots, but not utilized to their best ability.

That would mean a couple months of renovation/construction during revenue sailings....something doesn't sound right.
