Le Club Voyage Thumbs up or down

We are Discoverer Plus, but with such a large number of points required to get to the top tier it is unlikely the complimentary nights will be of any use to us. We have no interest in the upgrades either. The only things of real value to us were the free internet and free laundry. In fact it was our hope that these might be increased in the new programme rather than being removed altogether.

Thumbs down from us.

I can't say that we didn't expect your comments to this loyalty program change. As mentioned on the separate thread we opened, it wasn’t an easy decision to replace some benefits, but we believe it’s the right long-term decision for our guests and our brand. The one thing that we want to emphasize is that we do value our guests - and always look at providing our loyal guests with great value. While it is understandable that some will not like the changes, you will find a comparison below in terms of the value the new programs provides versus the old program...

We have just booked our first Azamara cruise and were quite excited about it, especially after I learned from LGV that we would have Discoverer Plus status. Very nice , I thought: free bag of laundry, 235 minutes of Internet , wine tasting seminar, some bubbly when you arrive. Just a gesture to reward loyalty to the cruise line, but a nice and very much appreciated one.

Now, just a few days later, everything is taken away again by the new announcement and I'm sorry to say - I feel cheated. It took a while to convince my DH to pay premium prices to sail a small ship when we have usually felt very comfortable in our Celebrity "homes" but the loyalty perks were simply a small incentive to try something new but keep the benefits which were nice to have and added to our comfort.

I also want to point out that Cunard gives each and every passenger even on their first cruise and the lowliest cabin category a bottle of quite decent sparkling wine for a private sail-away. After finishing your second cruise ( doesn't depend on length!) you also get free internet minutes.

Hi Ellbon and Everyone,

Just to clarify... We are removing "free" Internet, but will provide savings on Internet ranging from 30% to 50% depending on your level.

Best regards,

This is certainly somewhat misleading:

1. The 10% discount only applies to SELECT voyages, not all. I assume these will be the ones not booking well, which is where the reduced singles supplement is also offered at the current time.

2. The free nights of cruising only applies once, when one reaches the next level ( which from Explorer plus to Platinum is quite a reach).

Compare this with the loss of internet minutes and laundry, provided on ANY cruise each time taken, and it counts as a loss for us.

Azamarajoel,

Thanks for the comparison.

The value is there, in theory, in the new program, however the reality is quite different. The "free nights" benefit is only available when you reach a new threshold. For us that means 80 to 90 more cruise days - not likely to happen anytime soon. The upgrade benefit is only based on availability and priority is given to those with the most points - again, not likely a benefit that we will be able to take advantage of. The gift shop and spa benefits are only realized after spending $. Not something we are likely to do.

Most of the new benefits are conditional and have restrictions associated with them. As such, they are of no benefit to us. This is an important factor in assessing value.

Since 2010 I have sailed on Azamara Quest 5 times and had been planning on booking my 6th cruise in the next few weeks.

Really disappointed to find that the only loyalty rewards that were of any interest to me ,i.e free internet minutes, are being scrapped!

I am unsure as to how the Azamara marketing team can convince me that these changes are about anything other than penny pinching.

I do not feel rewarded for my loyalty to the Azamara brand! Guess it is time to take my loyalty elsewhere!

the biggest problem here is i left behind over 200 minutes asi hardly got on.. so even with a discount for me i might lose half the package getting on..

but in the end it is the laundry that upsets so many.

lastly i have cruises booked way out there but at 8 points a day i will not jump from 2200 or so to the next level anytime soon. so how do i get my free nights??

Azamarajoel, before we knew what we got and now is this is what we might get

I will prefer free internet instead of waiting 2 to four weeks to know if i will be lucky to pay hum hum $199 to be upgrade ( most people prefer to choose the stateroom location this is why we book a year ahead). What happen to b2b upgrade, i will know two weeks before if i pay twice 199$ to probably be move at the turn around day (not great).

Complimentary nights ( people will have long to wait to get the new level ans as you get it it might be gone. Who knows in 2 or 3 years how many perks will not be there anymore.

I was excited to switch to Azamara for my next cruise next week and was ready to book onboard for 2016 and had good arguments for my husband as he was not sure to pay that much for Azamara. Now i am affraid to tell him the bad news tonight. We work hard, long shift in remote northen Quebec to pay for our earn crusing that we like so much. But if i can make 2 cruises with another line with perks for the same price, i am affraid my husband will choose 2 cruises or one with less overtime to work. It is a slap in the face

Well said. The value is theoretical. This reminds me of the time my bank tried to sell me hedge funds.

Azamara Joel: I am sure you are verified Azamara PR. Don't sell this with that example you just put in this thread.:( I am not born yesterday and I don't like to be treated as if I was.:mad: We can all read the value of this. It is not for the customers. Now I just too agitated. I can't believe you just tried to sell this that way.

"The one thing that we want to emphasize is that we do value our guests - and always look at providing our loyal guests with great value."

Suggest you have Larry and Signe read this thread from beginning to end and then decide if you really do "value [your] guests" when you make a ridiculous and insulting, now long-overdue announcement like this one. Whoever wrote that you must think we are all stupid has it nailed.

Strongly suggest you go back to the drawing board and admit this was a September Fool's joke.

This reminds me of the airlines now charging fees for baggage and food that were formerly included in the pricing. Those fees have definitely increased the profitability of the airlines.

Is Azamara in that poor financial shape that they need to start charging for things that were formerly included in their pricing in order to stay afloat (pun intended)????

This really is a joke! So folks, my deposit is going on the azamara trip, but should I go back to the royal suite on Celebrity? This is not good business.

I've only cruised once on Azamara so feel I almost shouldn't pitch in with my thumbs down, especially since my Discoverer level came from being Elite on Celebrity, but the reality is that my one Azamara cruise will now probably be my only Azamara cruise.

The reality is that the only benefit to us on our 7 night cruise was the internet minutes and the sparkling wine (since it's the only sparkling wine available for free). We did use the laundry but since they lost one item and bleached the colour out of another item it wasn't that much of a perk in the long run. On a short cruise we didn't get a wine tasting or a welcome back party - and I assume that we didn't get a welcome home gift as we achieved our status via RC and X.

Since the pricing of Azamara cabins is so high compared to RC and X we would only rarely take a cruise with Az so there are no benefits at all for us now to cruise with them again. We enjoyed our one Azamara cruise and glad we tried them but now no incentive to do another.

My husband and I have been long time Celebrity cruisers, but we were seriously thinking of booking the Norway Fjords cruise in 2016. Silly us, to anticipate all the great new benefits that we would have on Azamara. Wonder if they made this announcement on a holiday so that no one could call to complain. Bet none of their office staff will want to come back to work on Tuesday!

We have recently completed a voyage on the Journey and were excited to move to the Discovery level after that cruise. I was excitedly planning another trip through the Panama canal for March of 2015 - and anticipating the additional perks we would receive with the revamping of the loyalty program.

I just got off the phone with azamara to find out our new status of Discovery does not allow us anything! No complimentary days - no internet - no laundry - and my guess is for us NO PANAMA CANAL CRUISE - on the Journey.

There are many other ships that offer this cruise - though I feel a loss - I think Azamara will be a bigger loser.

What are they thinking?

The bottle of sparkly was a nice touch (but we hardly ever drank it!) But the free internet minutes and the free laundry were and are very important to us. We don't want to spend time in port looking for internet cafes! We're in the same position as a couple of other posters...at the Discoverer level already but unlikely to be moving up any time soon so the "complimentary" days are useless to us. We are not much interested in the "upgrade" opportunity either as we always book early to pick our preferred cabin location. And now, with the addition of the dining tiers and packages, suite passengers will find it much harder to avail themselves of complimentary specialty dining. So really that's another "perk" gone.

All in all, very very upsetting. We loved you Azamara, but with all the changes in the past couple of years (let's not forget the loss of the harpist and now great chunks of prime cruising time turned over to charters) and the increase in cruise prices and the loss of LCV benefits, we're going to seriously reconsider our loyalty. Time to look at other cruiselines and maybe convert our 2015 cruise to a land vacation instead.

We are Elite plus on Celebrity and were looking forward to our first Azamara. Like many we book a long time ahead to get what we want. We feel cheated out of the benefits which have now been withdrawn.

We are a long way from the highest level and wont therefore benefit from the reaching the next level benefits.

With not one positive comment from the customers on this thread maybe a rethink is needed. Larry promised an innovate set of benefits. It sounds like that to me - it is innovative to come up with benefits which seem to alienate their customers:(

We have read with amazement the new Le Club Voyage Members Benefits which will become effective from January 2015 and even more amazed that Mr Pimentel and his shore-side staff/advisor’s are of the opinion that we, as loyal supporters, will enjoy these changes.

Well, Mr Pimentel, we too give a big thumbs down to your latest attempts to enhance our cruising experience by your latest innovative announcement.

We have been at a loss to understand the reasoning behind the decision to move the support team to Guatemala without first ensuring that a level of competence had been achieved by the operatives empowered to represent the good name of Azamara. Speaking from personal experience and reading the many contributions made on this forum, this surely could not have served the best interests of Azamara and in particular when these no doubt best intentioned but ill-informed representatives were placed in such a unique situation that by their ineptitude they may well have jeopardised all the hard work and dedication of the officers, staff and crew who make our on-board experience so wonderful and which has encouraged us to recommend Azamara to our friends and probably more prejudicial to future bookings, travel agents. It surely cannot be a coincidence that our local travel agents now no longer display Azamara brochures but other “higher end” cruise company brochures who do not rely on Central America call centres are readily to hand. Other so called enhancements such as the discontinuation of the 50% discount on shore excursions hasn't helped one little bit to enhance brand allegiance. Attempts to bypass the call centre in the past by seeking clarification by referral to the Azamara official Web page produced yet more frustration and the cause of much annoyance to many contributors to this forum. Yes, we readily agree, there have been truly innovative additions such as the Azamazing evening on the majority of cruises and the introduction of complimentary beverages but of course, all reflected in an enhanced cost per cruise. The withdrawal of the sparkling wine, the loss of the complimentary laundry facility and a fee now chargeable for use of the internet is petty and probably considered by many as penny pinching. This surely must question the worth to you of our loyalty. Believe us Mr Pimentel, these small tokens were very much appreciated and made us feel that you truly welcomed us back on board.

Of course our loyalty to Azamara is as a result of our past on-board experiences, a matter which appears to us as to be continually overlooked by management although constantly denied on these boards. As a result of our loyalty and allegiance, in the past twelve months alone, we have been responsible for seven of our “cruising” friends to book Azamara for the first time. Yet again we find ourselves at a loss to understand the reasoning behind these so called enhancement notices from management which purport to embellish our cruising experience with Azamara. We will be joining the Journey this October and according to this latest announcement from our shore-side friends, we will once again be able to enjoy a welcoming bottle of sparkling wine placed in our cabin on arrival, a free bag of complimentary laundry and a generous allowance towards internet charges. However, in recognition of our loyalty, the previously mentioned privileges are to be either withdrawn or made less generous for our Quest cruise in January 2015 and replaced with a points system which appears to be so ambiguously structured as to cast doubt if it will be of any benefit for future purpose.

To agree and quote “ikelmay” in his post August 22nd. “I really believe the staff and crew on Quest and Journey providing the stellar service on board deserve better than this”.

We both hope that in spite of the above, our two upcoming cruises will prove to be as enjoyable as our previous cruises on the Journey and the Quest and that the previous benefits previously referred to will have been reinstated in time for our January cruise.

Let us hope that common sense will prevail!:)

David and Julia

Joel, all of your examples under the new scheme assume that the guest spends money in order to achieve the savings. If I don't upgrade, book a future cruise or passages, spend money in the spa or shops or indeed book a cruise within 12 months of achieving a new level to get my free nights then I'm out of luck and that doesn't even take account of the terms and conditions under which I'm booked which may preclude me from offers anyway. Under the old scheme there truly was FREE stuff, but now it seems the only way you will give anything away is by me spending more money and increasing Azamara's revenue. I get it. I really do.
