Bermuda - opinion

Hi.

We are looking at either cruising the Caribbean or Bermuda (getaway or breakaway) first week in October. The idea of stopping at only 1 port seems odd to me. Looking for some feedback from those of you that have spent the 3 days in King's Wharf and whether that's better than 3 different ports. - what's there to do for 3 days and isn't the ship more crowded on the port days because end up staying on the ship the latter days? Thanks!

Three days in Bermuda (our favorite island) is only enough to scratch the surface. After three years of a summer cruise to Bermuda the forth year we flew there and stayed for seven full days. Best vacation I've ever had.

I agree with poster above.

We went this summer and it was the best vacation/cruise we've ever had.

Three relaxing days at sea, three relaxing days docked in beautiful Bermuda, then one full day at sea back home.

So great we are going back next year to do/see the things we didn't both on land and on Breakaway.

The people of Bermuda are wonderful.

We would recommend this trip very highly.

Have fun no matter which you choose!

Many on the boards have similar sentiments. Most would prefer more days in Bermuda, less sea days. We only went once and plan to return. EVERYONE should go at least once. In addition, a 7 day cruise is not enough time to do everything on the BA, many like to return on the BA for that same reason.

It's hard to evaluate whether three days in Bermuda would be "better than 3 different ports" without knowing which ports or how much time you would be there, but we enjoyed the Bermuda run from New York and having nearly three days in Bermuda. There's plenty to do, and it was nice to just be able to come and go when we wanted to.

I can't say if the ship was more crowded since we were off on land! :)

Whenever we are in Bermuda we spend all our time on land. Can't see that it would be more crowded. There is plenty of time to spend on board on the trip down and the trip back. Love Bermuda.

Bermuda is greatly enjoyed by me. I try to go every year. I do find going in October a little late for my snorkeling priority, so have been very successful picking up a cheap late booking in Sept several years.

Bermuda has so much to see and do, St. George has a lot of history, Hamilton has a beautiful Botanical Garden, wonderful Cave system between these two. Gibbs Lighthouse In season there are evening activities Gumba Dancers.

Simple and cheap bus and ferry system- BUT buses are NOT wheelchair accessible.

A few of the newer buses do have wheelchair lifts. When we were there for Bermuda day in 2009 they had just started using them. I don't know how many they have though. In general I don't think Bermuda is very wheelchair friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three days in Bermuda and would certainly return some day. It was definitely different than island hopping, but it's nice to have a flexible schedule and have mornings when you can head out early and evenings when you're not rushing back before a departure.

I could cruise vacation in Bermuda every year. Too me, it doesn't get old. I have a lot more to see and do there. Been 4 times so far.

It is nice to be able to get off the ship around the clock.

Any port day, even a rainy one in Bermuda, the ship will be less crowded than a typical sea day. It used to be an issue with some folks, the casino closed for the duration of the stay. It is now open after 9 at night.

I have not been on the Breakaway or the Getaway yet, but I have done both itineraries on other ships.

We sail on the Dawn out of Boston for Bermuda. and like tha fact that we're there for 3 days. There is plenty to see and do. fOR the Eastern Caribbean, we liked St. Martin, St Thomas-----Nassau is just ok. The only drawback was the short stays and getting back to the ship on time.

Is one homeport closer to you? That might figure in to the equation. Good luck with your decision.

I'm booked on the Breakaway for this coming July and being docked in a port for 3 days is what appealed to me the most. It will be my first time in Bermuda and I am so excited! The thought of relaxing and not rushing around sounds like a great vacation to me :)

Turtles06 stated it best writing, "It's hard to evaluate whether three days in Bermuda would be "better than 3 different ports" without knowing which ports or how much time you would be there". I have to admit Bermuda wins over the Caribbean every time for us.

We love Bermuda! The ability to use the ship as a floating hotel is great. The island is easy to get around and the beaches top notch.

I had the same reservations as you prior to taking the Bermuda trip. It's different than island hopping, but in my opinion feels much more relaxing as you aren't on a tight schedule and I like being able to come and go from the ship like a hotel, especially at night. Aside from that Bermuda is beautiful.

The ferries are fairly accessible, but my last trip, I specifically looked for accessible buses and did not see a single one. This also included the bus shelter in Hamilton on several trips.

Is your October month of choice flexible? You might find a different month a better choice for Bermuda (aka temperature, hurricanes, seasonal activities, etc), but as for spending three days in Bermuda we couldn't pass the opportunity up! We are stoked about coming and going throughout the day and night without having to fear missing the ship while on private excursions. There's so much to do in Bermuda, three days will just scratch the surface. The beaches are outstanding and the people warm and welcome. I vote for Bermuda :D

We've done Boston to Bermuda 2x, both on the Dawn, once the 2nd week of Oct and once the 3rd. We loved the idea of the "floating hotel" that a previous poster mentioned.

For those 3 days in port, there's no rushing to get off and on the boat, and that suits me perfectly. I actually don't know that I'd like visiting multiple ports, as I think I'd feel not only rushed but pressured to cram in as much as possible at each port.

Cruising for me is probably more about the journey than the destination. I cruise to relax and completely decompress. So the Bermuda 3-day itinerary suits me perfectly. Of course, YMMV.

We have done the Caribbean and the Bahamas many times.

Bermuda was a great change. There weren't any pushy people wanting to braid my hair or sell us trinkets.

Not sure what kind of traveller the OP is.

Beach lover? Bermuda has perfect beaches. Snorkeling, jet skis, helmet diving, glass bottom boats, boat rentals for the day, etc etc.

Museum/History lover? The Royal Navy Dockyard has tons of history. So does St. George's.

Bermuda has Aquariums, zoo, caves, lighthouses, horseback riding.

There is something for everyone.

Happy Sailing!

I actually took the Bermuda and FL cruise recently. Bermuda is not like any other island. It's much nicer than the Carribean/Bahamas and there is much more to see and do. 3 days in Bermuda is not a lot of time and I highly recommend it!!!

Bermuda has 3 towns to explore and lots of things to do, even between the towns. You can have a town day followed by a beach day followed by a shopping day. It's also nice not to have to worry about missing the ship every day you leave it.
