Wearing another cruise line's shirt?

I have seen many people wear t-shirts from various cruise lines.

It doesn't bother us in the least -- and I have never seen a crew member give a second look as to what people are wearing.

 

DH had crew tease in fun ways with him if he was wearing a t-shirt from another HAL ship. We've sailed all of HAL's 15 ship fleet repeatedly and he had t-shirts from them all. Stewards and Officers alike would say 'wrong ship' to him as we passed by. :) They notice.... they give a second look. Of course, unless they know you, they are not likely to say something about a "X" t shirt on HAL ship. :D

I don't have any logo shirts but I do have a Oceania hoodie that I bought on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

 

I was kind of chilly and went in a shop onboard looking for a hoodie and saw one 1/2 price that had "Oceania Australia New Zealand" on it. We had just spent ten weeks DIY in New Zealand & Australia so I thought "great I'll get that one".

 

At the time I had never heard of Oceania.

 

It may not have been actual advertising for Oceania. That part of the South Pacific islands is often referred to as Oceania. Do a search on "Oceania" and see what pops up ;)

Like those canvas "schlep" bags some lines give out...I've seen many, many HAL bags on other lines and no, no one had to walk the plank because of it.

 

Exactly! I had to chuckle when a previous poster said that it was, "tacky." This is what I would call a classic Shakespeare, "Much Ado About Nothing."

 

For crying out bells, it is a cruise and you are on vacation. It is not like you are attending a political function and you are wearing a shirt supporting the opposition candidate or party!:rolleyes:

 

By the way, we have been on twenty-four cruises and the only cruise related shirt that I obtained, actually won at the casino, shrunk after the first wash and was tossed into the charity clothing dumpster. On the other hand, I have numerous Boston Red Sox shirts that I wear on the ship and at ports and they never fail to receive positive reactions.:D

Interesting comments. We have cruised on 14 different lines and still have shirts from quite a few. I have never hesitated wearing one lines shirts on another line and honestly never even thought it was an issue that anyone would mention.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and if anyone is judgemental about something so stupid, you're not likely to please them anyways.

Probably the one thing I wouldn't do is wear a sports team's tee shirt at a rival's game. Not because it's "tacky," but because there are some fanatics who don't understand boundaries (Bryan Stow, for example, was beaten by some fans of the other team at Dodger Stadium, and most of us Angelenos felt like asking for those jerks to get banned from our city).

 

Back when I was a student, I did get tees from another school's bookstore if I went to an away game. The one exception would be any USC wear -- you couldn't pay me to wear any thing with those letters on it.:eek:

 

But seriously, I can't see what's wrong with wearing a HAL tee on a Royal Caribbean ship, etc. The crew isn't going to throw you overboard.

I had the same thought about wearing a logo, but I had a great jacket I had bought on a RCCI transatlantic when I didn't anticipate the chilly weather. I decided to take it on an Alaska cruise on Celebrity. Turned out that they are under the same umbrella, and at the rail station in Anchorage, it turned out to identify me as a cruise member and they took my luggage to the ship which I hadn't scheduled for or expected (short version of the story).

 

Now I wouldn't give a second thought to wearing logo clothing on another line, even though in that case it was a sister line.

I think I will compromise with myself. I'll leave the one that has the big Carnival ship in the middle of it, but take the Keep Calm and Cruise On one because the Carnival logo is a small thing on the bottom of the shirt.

 

jenn I was going to give you heck for 'caving' into 'it's tacky' crowd but then I remembered that I caved once and wore a homer t shirt. My brother and his son are huge Cleveland Browns Fans. One year a whole group of us traveled to Baltimore to see the Browns play the Ravens. On game day my brother and my nephew wore all their Cleveland gear, hats, jerseys, the whole nine yards. He also bought us all Browns' hats to wear to the game. On the way to the stadium and after getting comments from those ravenous Ravens fans I stopped and bought a Ravens' t shirt and hat proudly wore them into the stadium.

 

I wore that homer Ravens t-shirt and hat not because it would be tacky to wear the Browns' gear, I wore them it make sure I got out of the stadium alive should the Browns been lucky enough to actually win!! They didn't and my brother and nephew and the other guys in the group are still with us.

 

BTW the Ravens are now my favorite NFL team. Great Team, Great Fans (when they win ;)) and a Great town!

Who cares!! When you go into Starbucks, do you check to be sure that you do not have a shirt from another coffee shop. When you visit a city or a tourist location, do you make sure that you do not have a shirt from another city or tourist site. If they do not want me to wear a competitor's shirt, they can give me "approved" shirts for free and even then I may not wear them.

 

Seriously, there have to be more serious cruise related things to worry about than the proper shirt protocol.

Mr Chew has tee shirts & polos from many of our cruises, and he wears them on all of our cruises. They are usually very good conversation starters ... except our last cruise was on Oceania, and we couldn't believe how many people were horrified by the idea of cruising on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or HAL!!
Two years ago we did a Baltic cruise - yes, on Carnival, as you will see from my signature.:) We ported in Rostock next to Oceania Marina, and our private tour of Rostock and Warnemunde was DH, me, our two teenage sons, and a mother and daughter from Carnival Legend, and then a group from Marina. The mother and daughter left the tour early. We met some wonderful people from Marina. On the way back to the port, the Marina passengers had a shuttle available for them - and our guide figured we could tag along. It was fairly obvious to everyone that we weren't on Marina, given our kids - but no one let on.:D

I don't know ...this could turn into a wearing the wrong color on the wrong turf kind of thing.

 

Or say in the middle of the MDR on a HAL ship someone shouts out "Oceania Represent".

 

Or someone with bad arthritis is mistakenly accused of giving hand signs from Celebrity.

 

I don't know , I see a knifing just waiting to happen. :)

No flames please. Is it completely considered rude and weird to wear another cruise line's shirt? I bought some really cute cruise shirts on my last Carnival trip (one says "Keep Calm and Cruise On" and the other is "Cruise Your Worries Away"). This trip is on Norwegian though. I also have a couple of their shirts as well which I will pack. Does this fall under the category that no one really cares what other people are wearing category? Or the, I can't believe she has the nerve to wear the competition's shirt category?

 

Jenn, wear anything! You are on a cruise. Have fun. I have been on several cruises, and I have many cruise line shirts that I wear to the gym when I get home. Most cruises lines are owned by Carnival these days. They don't care.

 

The only loyalty I follow is wearing a formal to the two required nights.

I'm will you Hank, we have cruised about 9 different lines over the years... I would not hesitate to wear one line's shirts on another. Actually don't think anyone cares one way or the other, if they do too bad.

 

We often talk about the various ships we have booked in the future, generally we have about 3 cruises booked on 3 different lines in the year or so ahead. We are not loyal to any line but do have our favorites and we show that be being repeat cruisers. Cruise lines only care about how much money spend not what you where.

I wouldn't dream of it. A definite "faux pas" . Fellow passengers may not give two hoots about what you are wearing but IMHO it is discourteous to the line on which you are travelling.

A cruise line is a business. They would also not give two hoots about what the OP wears as long as she pays her bill. Not paying her bill - now that would be

discourteous.
