Elite Level Changing

I used to never have a problem in the Suite/Elite line, but last summer on the Grand, it was horrible. This poor boy of about 11 years old was 100% ignored, and my mother-in-law was, too. The Pax Services Rep was downright rude when I called him out on it. My mother-in-law spoke with his supervisor, and she personally manned the Suite/Elite line the rest of the cruise (during her shifts) and provided impeccable customer service.

It's funny. All this talk about Elite and Diamond status yet the only time I got invited to meet and hang out with the captain was my one lonely cruise on Holland America.

We had no status at all.

I'll never know how I made that list but it turned out to be a great time and throughout the rest of the cruise we kept seeing the captain and he would come over and joke around with us.

People kept looking at us funny. (Maybe some jealous Elites? ) 😀

On our very first NCL cruise, we went to the Suite Party and met the captain there...the next day we got an invite to meet with the Captain on the Bridge and spend some time up there! He was a very gracious host and we were thrilled to be invited!!

In about six weeks I will be RUBY on Princess!

Does that mean I can stand in line and wave my card shouting, "I'm Ruby, dammit!" :D

Of course it does! Just let everyone on your Roll Call know when you're going to do that so they can take videos of all the reactions.

Feeling the need to defend lanyard wearers (okay, maybe just me). :D

I do wear a lanyard...the stretch "phone cord" kind from the casino. LOVE those! I have my card punched and put it on that and wear it like a lanyard.

I do this because I don't want to lose it as I am apt to do and I won't leave it behind in a casino machine as I am also apt to do. I don't usually wear pockets and don't carry a purse onboard. And, if I left it in a pocket, it would stay there, even through change of clothing, etc., lol. So, it stays around my neck from morning until I go to bed at night.

So, not all of us are trying to show off, lol.

-checking their folio

- exchanging money

-paying in cash

-changing their credit card

-dropping off letters for the ship's officers

I guess a different world than I live in. Never had the need and why the volume? What raised my eye though is dropping off letters to the ships officers. Why? Navigation advise? Comments on the amount of starch in the laundry? Someone said a bad word in entertainment? Love interersts? I have this image of the officers in the back looking at these over a coffee and just shaking their heads with their head resting on their palm.

Or maybe even commending some great staff

Answer

No I don't I'm sorry you Poor thing, but sit down there and I'll put an announcement over and see if anyone can help identify you.:D

Ha!

I can hear it now: "Excuse me passengers... Does any one know who this person is? Anyone? Anyone?"

(and if I had a nickle for every time I have heard someone utter those words....)

What makes you think that everything that goes on at the Passenger Services Desk is a complaint? I've gone there to ask a question about something I didn't understand for example. Same way with letters to ship's officers! It could be a thank you letter for something that a member of the crew had done for the cruiser, or maybe thanking the officer for being a part of the ship's tour the person could have been on. Or maybe the officer was being thanked for being at a meet & greet, did you ever think of that?

I'm happy that I apparently do live in a different world than you do!

^^^^^ THIS!!!^^^^^ We wear the lanyards also so that we are sure we both have our room key access when leaving the room, AND I don't forget my card in the casino in a machine! That little lanyard really helps to remind you by dangling out of the card holder slot when playing and moving from one machine to the next not to forget it. I too seldom wear shirts with pockets ( NEVER) and find it very convenient to know where my cruise card is when needed (like for about anything you do on the ship!). We also NEVER leave our cabin without both of us having our card with us, because you never know if one wants to do something while the other branches off to do something else leaving you without access to your cabin or purchasing if you did not have it with you. Just convenience, pure and simple. I could care less what "status" someone else is (or is not) , and can't help but wonder about anyone whos life is so shallow they need to be concerned with what mine is while on vacation. There is SO MUCH MORE TO DO AND ENJOY while on your cruise!!! :) If it bothers you to see a lanyard around my neck because it works for me, you need more than just a cruise....

And when a friend and I cruise on the Golden Princess, we will both be wearing lanyards to keep our Cruise Cards on us. We're both using to wearing them for work, and we both tuck the lanyard inside our shirt for discretion if a key is attached to the lanyard. Because of handicaps, it's the most practical way for me to carry my key with me.

I was on my first Princess cruise this summer to Alaska and I wore my card in a lanyard on the ship because I have a tendency to misplace them on a cruise.

Another person's loyalty status on a cruise line is not even on my 'radar screen' when I am on a cruise. My observation: A number of posters on this thread seem to be very focused on their loyalty status to the extent that I read they are concealing their card for 'discretion' (!) or stating they are not 'showing off' by wearing their card in a lanyard.

FYI: The average cruiser, like me, is not thinking about loyalty levels of others while on a cruise.

I cannot wait to retire and retire the wearing of the TIE (like a snake choking me around the neck). So bring on the lanyards!!! I may wear several at a time

My own opinion and not directed at anyone in particular, will all due respect, bless their hearts....I could care less about loyalty status I see on people wearing a lanyard. The problem with lanyards is they make people look like dorks. If you can't keep track of one lousy card on a cruise ship how in the heck do you function in the real world?
