Cruisers beware

As slippery-slope arguments go, this one is particularly weak. Most cabins do not have chronic issues. Those that do, they can do something about it, or they can do nothing and just cross their fingers on every cruise and hope that this week's passengers don't make a stink.

They can do something about it, DO NOT CHOOSE A CABIN YOU DO NOT WANT. They of course being the person responsible for picking a cabin they like, the passenger. It is not NCL's job to interview or quiz every passenger to approve which cabin they select.

Pick a cabin at the end of the deck away from noise and people complain that it is too far to get to the elevator.

Pick a cabin near an elevator and people complain that they hear the doors open and shut all day.

Pick a cabin with only cabins above and below and people complain that it is too many decks to get to the food, entertainment, casino.

Pick a cabin one deck away form on on the same deck as the food and entertainment and people complain that it is too busy and crowded aroudn their cabin.

Pick any cabin you want and there will be people who complain about it and people who absolutely love it.

What you suggest is foolish and futile.

If your unfamiliar with what's above and below you, you should do some due diligence and find out! I understand on a freebie, they would give you an unwanted cabin, so maybe better to upgrade!

What some people do not understand is that it does not matter if it is a comp cruise from casinos at sea or if it is a certificate cruise from Harrahs. They do not choose your cabin. They only choose the type of cabin whether it be inside ov balcony mini suite or suite. Once they tell you what category your comp cabin will be, you the cruiser chooses which cabin you want.

The OP wasn't given an unwanted cabin, the OP choose the cabin.

....they burned my butt off and offered me $125 for my troubles....OP, you got a steal of a deal. As the others have said, lesson learned, I'm sure you'll review the floor plans next time.

I think NCL was very kind to you.

I'd be surprised if it was nearly as bad as the OP described. These forums would be full of complaints and we would all be well aware of how terribly awful these cabins are.

If you don't play it up and amplify the negatives, how else are you going to get something for nothing?

I had a room under the galley on a disney cruise and like the OP said, there was stuff rolling around all night. It woke me up a few times each night which made it feel like I didn't sleep well, but in general I got enough sleep. We certainly won't stay in a room like that again, but demanding to be moved or compensated never crossed my mind. While I can empathize with the OP a bit, putting any blame on the cruise line is just misguided.

Well, the OP jumped ship on this thread because he couldn't stand the heat from the kitchen. Oh wait, his stateroom, which he chose, was under the kitchen!

OP got more compensation than he really should gotten. I have no sympathy.

The reasonable people come on line and call you out for taking an unreasonable position and you decide to run and not respond any more. The only thing that I see in your original post is that you picked a cabin you didn't like and don't want to take responsibility for your error.

Seems like another person who wants something for nothing, this is a lot of what is wrong with the US today.

I agree, and for what it is worth your final sentence applies in the UK too.

Interesting. There is a web site that shows planes and marks good, bad and indifferent seats. Who wants to do that for cruise ships?! I wonder if Drag it Decks would take that on.

hmmmm, I'll apply for the job of checking out rooms!

Vic

CDP has started to do that about 2 years ago.

I have a coupon for a free meal at restaurant but I still need to pay for my tips.

Maybe you should contact the people that gave you the voucher and complain how undervalued you were treated. I think NCL did more than enough to compensate you for your noisy cabin.

Cruise of Jan 2016 on the Norwegian Dawn.

PROS: Easy on and off ship. Easy parking at the port. I am sure there were more but I was too sleep deprived to enjoy much that the cruise had to offer.

CONS: Our cabin was under the galley (unknown to us at time of reservation) ... had no idea that the noise level would be so bad. It was impossible to sleep. They finally moved us after 4 nights of sleeplessness. The on-board guest relations gave us one free specialty meal and a bottle of wine and 200.00 reimbursement. Note- we already had the specialty meal package, so what good was that?

After arriving at home I phoned NCL's guest relations department.... was told (after an unbelievable amount of time on hold) to send them an email. I did and received an email back stating they would be in touch after 15 business days...HA! That was Feb 10... forward to today March 31...no response, so I again held a phone line for 50 minutes...just to be told they would NOT be giving anymore reimbursement. ( I only asked for partial reimbursement for the time I was sleep deprived).

This was a Harrah's Casino at Sea cruise, so therefore I felt I was not a valued guest to NCL and they referred me to Casino At Sea customer service. Again this proved a useless effort... another long phone hold. At least I found out from the Casinos At Sea rep that NCL passes the buck because no one takes responsibility for the customer.

Found plastic in my dessert at the Brazilian Steak restaurant. Cabin was worn and some lights did not work.

And I am a Latitudes member which carries no weight either..... You have been warned... consider another cruise line.

WoW

Lol. Truth sure hurts. They probably had a rough time in the casino and want to blame someone else to get the losses back.

I had a similar cabin on the Sky on my very first cruise in 2010. Deck 10, directly below the Great Outdoors. Constant noise overhead all night, every night. We couldn't be moved because the ship was full. IIRC, we received some small compensation after complaining.

Now, for the good part.

I know that my husband is a very light sleeper so I, being a first-time cruiser, actually went on these very boards and asked for advice concerning our cabin selection. At the time I booked it, I didn't know anything about what to look for concerning cabin location. I WAS ADVISED TO MOVE AND DIDN'T TAKE THE ADVICE!!

Bottom line, who's fault is it that we were kept awake all night? Mine or NCL's?

Mine, of course. If you look at my signature, it is obvious that very first experience didn't turn me off.

If OP was on some kind of casino promotion and is still complaining, my bet is that he thinks he is "entitled" and always wants something for nothing.

He probably lost in the casino, which was of course NCL's fault and he just wants them to make him whole again.

No sympathy; he picked the room.

As far as being moved, we had on obstructed OV on the Gem a couple of years ago. There was some kind of whistling noise from somewhere which bothered DH (like steam coming up but from outside). They moved us when we complained.

No sympathy; you picked the room (or agreed to be placed there). Do you not know how to read a deck plan? Obstructed OVs have lifeboats right outside, and those can make a lot of noise. It's a freaking cruise ship. Frankly, I would settle for a room with a whistling noise any day rather than sitting at home. How entitled of you to complain, and how excessively generous NCL was to move you. And you're still talking about this years later?

"She" & daughter (new to cruising) are likely gone from this sub-board, from their sailing's Roll Call info I read, off to book a cruise & sail on another line - wish them success & the takeaway lessons in doing a bit of due diligence.

When we recently booked 2 cabins via the "special" number, rep was helpful as we both looked at the deck plans, location & discuss what's important and asked about our preference, before confirming the particulars - besides, we had 24 hours to change our minds & cancel with no penalty or fees. Went thru our "checklists" and NCL went thru hers on best efforts to cross the t's, i's and dot's.

Not trying to be harsh here - as another CC'r noted, the onboard compensation issued was very reasonable (perhaps, too generous - LOL) - as they got ... perhaps, as much as 50% of their fares paid (administrative fees, it's on the statement/payment invoice) credited - not counting the taxes, port charges, fees & DSC.

(Perhaps) time to chill for all - MODs had already cleaned up some of the posts - and let this thread expire naturally & fade away. There are other legitimate things to "complaint" and gripe about ;) - these arent', IMHO.
