Undisareble upgrade

Recommended Posts

Dear all, I just noticed I was "upgraded" to a stateroom that I didnt like as close to public area and just above bars and restaurants. My cruuse departs in 7 days. Royal had not asked me or sent me any email I just saw a different number in my reservation. Travel agency is trying back me to my previous cabin ( it was not a garanteeded booked). Have any of you had the same experience and what was the resolution ? Kind regards

Double check your Crown and Anchor Profile. If you've selected "automatic upgrade" they can assign you an upgrade regardless of location. Most people don't realize that they can select not to receive an upgrade in certain circumstances. Call them and ask what can be done, but realize you might be stuck with your upgrade.

Your TA will most likely check cabins in the same category you were upgraded to and see if one is available in a better location. In instances such as yours you were probably upgraded because they wanted your cabin and it will no longer be available.

If they were holding accessible rooms for those that need one, they have obviously released them to the general population as the cruise date is near. If you can tolerate a bit of potential noise, the Accessible rooms are larger to allow scooter access, and the shower is much bigger/better than the usual torpedo tube. May not be a bad upgrade....

My wife and I booked one on AOS due to her foot surgery / scooter use. It was fairly close to public areas as well, but we had no issues and the room was great.

Thank you all.

Yeah Doug. It seems I need starting considering see the good part of the upgrade :-))

Doug is correct . The handicapped cabins can be much bigger . We got one and it was fantastic although different .

Try and find out this new cabins size . Good luck .

I was above the Schooner bar on the Brilliance and it was awful. Day and night you could hear everything. I could have answered all the trivia without leaving the room. Check to see what is above and below you. It was a very long week.

I am very sensitive to noise.. that's the reason I asked to back me to my previous room.. the new cabin is just above bars and close casino/atrium.. unfortunatelly 😣

You are closer to the Centrum than I would book, but they close the firedoors if there is something going on in the Centrum, so that should help. You are above a hallway leading into the Schooner Bar and the farthest away from the piano in there as you can be. The host that runs trivia stands at the piano, so I would be very surprised if you hear any noise from there.

You may want to review the deck plans. 7612 is nowhere near the casino (the casino is forward of the atrium, and you're aft, and 7612 is above the passageway between Vintages and the schooner bar, but not above either bar itself. It is also several cabins aft of the atrium on the closed in side of the ship (elevators are on the opposite side of the ship, which is the noisy side). Deck three, on the other hand is directly above the crew areas and the main transport route for all of the ships provisions and consumables.

I see you have some good answers. Can you give us details? In previous cases I have read about they may have moved you to give someone else that room so two other parties could be together. I heard where Royal thinks a balcony on a higher deck is an upgrade, but if you picked yours for a specific location you might not agree. Next year I am in a JS and if they want to upgrade me (not likely for 2 people) then they can go ahead. But as soon as I get back from that cruise I am setting my preference to NO UPGRADE as I have the coveted aft balcony on a Radiance class.
