tootsie7 Posted June 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Has anyone taken flameless candles (battery operated) on any of the Carnival ships? We are leaving on the Breeze on June 19 and I would like to take these to use as a night light in the bathroom. Most ships don't really have a good spot for a night light in the bathroom. 2Ports Posted June 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Works ok A cheap clip on LED booklite clipped on to the top of the shelf to one side of the sink worked a whole lot better though. Batteries good for 2 weeks.
CRJ700 Posted June 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2016 We take a couple battery operated tea lights. One in the bathroom and one behind the TV. It casts just enough light to see your way around. They last all week with continuous use. https://www.dollartree.com/Luminessence-Flameless-Battery-Operated-LED-Tealight-Candles-2-ct-Packs/p341886/index.pro
cccer Posted June 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Never brought them on, but that's not a bad idea. Thanks for that:)
Avril Posted June 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I think it's a great idea and might have to take a couple on my next cruise!! :D I'd just be afraid that the Cabin Steward(ess) might not know and/or understand what they are and since candles aren't allowed, he/she might confiscate them. I mean, they're from countries that aren't Canada (where I'm from) or the USA so may never have seen or heard of flameless/battery operated candles before. Just a thought. gtaylor Posted June 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I take them, but I don't take them for a nightlight or such. I take them only to create a MORE romantic scene in the cabin. gary
sweetp12 Posted June 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I use glow sticks, they last all night and can be used in a variety of ways - in bracelet form around door handles, standing up in a glass or on the floor to create atmosphere.
tattoos Posted June 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I took some flameless tea lights on my cruise in May, they worked great and the battery lasted all week. I put two in the bathroom and two on the counter. They provided a soft glow and just enough light to maneuver around in your stateroom at night. When I checked in, Security opened my carry-on and looked at them and didn't know what they were and was just about to confiscate them when another Security employee came over and said they were o.k. Most ships don't really have a good spot for a night light in the bathroom. I have taken them several times. We use them on our balcony instead of turning on the outside night at light. That way we have some mood lighting and we don't disturb our neighbors with our outside light. Mine is a set of three of differing sizes that look like real candles. Never had an issue with the steward thinking they were real. When you look there is a bulb instead of a wick so don't think there would be any issue. rilco33647 Posted June 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Flashlight app on smart phones works great to see at night if you are looking for a 'nightlight'. Not suggesting to use it for romantic atmosphere.

If you show it to your cabin steward and explain what it is, it will not be confiscated.

Rare momin05 Posted June 17, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 17, 2016 I take battery operated tea lights on every cruise and leave them on the bathroom counter. Have never had a problem...it never even occurred to me the steward may confiscate them! I buy them at the dollar store in a pack of 2 or 3 and they last a pretty long time. Last cruise my elderly uncle got up in the night to go to the bathroom and went out into the hall instead and got locked out! I gave my Aunt a tea light to use to prevent that from happening again! Most ships don't really have a good spot for a night light in the bathroom. I take one or two not only on cruises but when I stay in hotels too, I usually leave the light on in the bathroom for a nightlight but not when there's only one switch that turns on the fan as well. Jimmy Geegitz Posted June 17, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Been bringing them for years. We put them on the balcony and have a glass of wine. I always get them at the dollar store. They have a great selection.
tonit964 Posted June 17, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 17, 2016 We always take them. The first time we brought one, it was in 2009, we were docked in Acapulco until 1:00am. While sitting on the balcony, drinking wine, with the candle on the table, we heard a knock at our door and security was there saying the bridge saw a candle on our balcony. We showed them it was just battery powered, they said it looked so real, then called up to the bridge and all was well.
chocolate melting cake Posted June 17, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 17, 2016 We have brought them when cruising with our granddaughter----who always lights sabbath candles. We do show them to the steward first.

CRJ700 Posted June 18, 2016 #21 Share Posted June 18, 2016 Why not take a night light. You can but most cabins only have one dual outlet. Don't want to clog it with a night light.
cruizinisthebest Posted June 18, 2016 #22 Share Posted June 18, 2016 Leaving the TV on with the sound off doesn't work anymore? ;) That's what we do. Plenty of light We leave it on the forward facing camera channel. BUT alot of people don't like to sleep with the t.v. on.
tandemcruzr Posted June 18, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 18, 2016 We just leave the bathroom light and close the door. Enough light leaks into the room so we can find our way. :)
noelbows Posted June 19, 2016 #24 Share Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) Leaving the TV on with the sound off doesn't work anymore? ;) Doesn't do much good in the bathroom. That's where the OP wants to put the tealights. Why not take a night light. I tried that on the Dream. The electricity in the bathroom only works if you turn the light on, so the night light was a bust. My whole thing is I'm trying to avoid turning on bright lights when I get up to use the bathroom at night. I want just enough light to be able to see to do my business, not so much to blind me or wake me up. Edited June 19, 2016 by noelbows
Florings Posted June 19, 2016 #25 Share Posted June 19, 2016 Take flameless tea lights every cruise for a night light in the bathroom. Works great, lasts all week, and the stewards don't take them...they know by now what they are.
