Balcony Guarantee Lower Price Than Inside and I Am Confused

Maybe inside cabins don't pay for room service. 😉

That's the thing - that's the first I've heard of insides being any different from a balcony in terms of room service. Even the a la carte would be a departure since many basics were reported free with a few upcharge items.

Hello Everyone... we've cruised many times, and, have chosen many different cabin categories, however, never a Balcony guarantee.

At the moment, we're booked in a Larger Inside Stateroom on The Anthem, but all of a sudden Balcony Guarantee Cabins are listed and, are $120 lower than what we paid for our Inside.

We have never been on The Anthem, and from all the posts I've seen, we could end up with an obstructed view balcony cabin too.

Based on all of your experiences, what are your thoughts as to whether you would book the balcony guarantee for $120 less than our inside cabin even if an obstructed view is possible, or, would you keep the larger inside cabin?

Thank-you very much.

In many of our cruises we booked balcony guarantees and once we were assigned a category and cabin number if we saw another in a better location we have moved within that category. I wouldn't hesitate to go guarantee even if it wasn't cheaper or the same price. If booking way in advance you have a better chance of being put into a higher category balcony, at least that has been our experience.

I think the reference was to ordering room service and snacking or dining on the balcony....and not ordering/eating room service food as much in an inside. You guys . :D

So they have a charge to deliver the food onto your balcony as opposed to just handing it to you at the door?

No. Some ala carte items on the Anthem (only) room service menu have a fee, no matter to which room, inside or balcony and whatever time of the day or night they are delivered. (caveat, probably not suites)

It is speculation only, but I believe that the OP was indicating that room service dining is greatly preferred on a balcony rather than in an inside cabin. :D:rolleyes::)

If balcony is less than inside it is because the ship is very open - people are more likely to buy an inside at cheapest cost when ship starts to fill up. So when you give up your inside it goes in to available inventory for that purpose.

I would choose a obstructed balcony every day of the week for 2 reasons- #1 - in an inside I find my body never completely wakes up because of no light. I tend to sleep more- and feel more tired all day. #2 - an obstruction will still let light in unlike the inside where you are completely stuck.. A lot of times the inside backs up to internal crew areas that can be noises- usually your balcony is not unless you are under/over dining, pool deck or theatre.

To me this is a no-brainer - give up the inside. The Anthem has less insides in it and more balconies. Once you get your assignment you can move around within that category.

Take my word you will not be disappoint.

I upgraded yesterday from an inside guarantee to a balcony guarantee for a very reasonable amount on the Anthem in December. I was assigned a D5 cabin on deck 12. It doesn't have an obstructed view.

cabin was in there twice

As some others have said, the risk with a guarantee is that you may end up in a less desirable area such as far forward, or under the pool etc. if cabin location is important to you then don't do it, otherwise I think the balcony (even obstructed) is better than an inside

You can't move with Australian or UK bookings, whatever they give you you're stuck with it! That said, we have done it twice and had no problems.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions and valuable information based on your experiences.

I will probably call and switch from our inside on deck 10 of the Anthem to a balcony guarantee.

I just assumed since the Anthem currently shows 15 obstructed view balconies open for our October 21st, 2017 cruise this far out, that might mean that those 15 will fill up last, thus, when it's time to assign us our room, we will end up with one of those since all 15 might still be available because most cruisers will take all the non-obstructed rooms first.

Who would actually choose an obstructed cabin to begin with as their regular choice.

Thanks

How on earth could an inside cabin be better than any balcony?

That view of the "inside wall" has got to be pretty nice..

We're talking Anthem here, right? That said, wouldn't the view of the inside wall actually be the virtual balcony? Rather than a black box room, this should be an inside room with an unobstructed "view", and that novelty alone could command an upcharge

We once had this situation , I think on Brilliance. We had an inside cabin in a quiet spot. The balcony guarantees could be over the casino or lounges with music. The quiet cabin was more important than the balcony. As it turned out the weather was not so great for sitting outside anyway. Great ports. Never regretted the decision.

You are right! I was looking forward to having breakfast a few times on the balcony, I never thought of having any meal in inside cabins, but when I was made aware that there was not a flat fee but a la carte pricing, I was disappointed. :(

We booked an inside with a virtual view (V2) on deck 10 on Anthem in Aug 2017. However, it is an accessible cabin. It doesn't seem to make sense to me to take a chance on not getting an accessible cabin by switching to a GTY Balcony.

I think you will be very happy with the balcony guarantee. Fresh air and the view even if it is obstructed. Sailing into ports and looking out from your balcony is a big plus also. I don't like having to go find a public place to view the port. Hubby gets up early and brings back coffee and sometimes bangles to have on the balcony. It's so nice.

I would also take the balcony guarantee. If you get a cabin and you don't like the location, you may be able to switch within the same category. Even if you do not use the balcony, it's still great to be able to look out anytime you want and see where you are or open the door to see what the weather is like for that day.

I normally have an accessible cabin because of a few health issues, however, no accessible balcony cabins were available even when we first booked, or, I would have done that to begin with. So, I ended up doing an accessible inside, however, when I saw the balcony prices, I debated on foregoing the accessible inside for the balcony guarantee.

The unknown I guess, is that I'm having back surgery at the end of November and I'm betting that I will be much better where I won't need accessible cabins anymore, especially by next Octobers cruise.

Obviously, if the surgery doesn't turn out the way it should, then I might be switching back to accessible, if there are those cabins still open.

Thank-you again for all taking the time to help me with this decision
