What else are they cutting out!?

Recommended Posts

Are you joking? C'mon. Freaking unreal how this big corps think.

Someone can really get hurt.

Nah it'll fine, there's insurance for that. No doubt plenty of people will end up in the medical unit with pulled muscles and demand some OBC or a refund to compensate them since they decided not to buy it, but that's par for the course and certainly to be expected with changes such as these. At least people will be hungry enough after all the rowing to eat whatever is on the menu that night, even if it is just gruel and dry bread.

Got off Allure this past Sunday. They cut prime rib out of the menu and now it's a 1/4 inch thick tough and chewy steak instead.

They did serve lobster ? Probably because they don't have a dedicated seafood restaurant yet !

The last cruise we went on with Royal was in 2014 on Enchantment and that was a horror story. Never even used the future cruise certificate that was good till 2015. Allure is a nice ship, but Royal is pushing all the specialty restaurants now instead.

This may have been my last cruise with Royal.

I just heard they are cutting out FUEL. They are giving every passenger an oar while boarding the ship. Those in suites only have to help row the ship during the daytime. All others are on 18 hour shifts.

I read somewhere that they are going to try to go to Natural Gas and it's in the test phase.

True and passengers are to provide the natural gas. Menus will be altered to onions and cabbage. Any passenger not providing his daily share of natural gas will be sent back to get his oar.:p

I recently found the docs from our very first cruise in 1989, a 7 nighter on the Carnival Holiday. We paid more then than we did for our upcoming 9 night on Navigator. Yes the experience was vastly different. More things were included, service was much more personalized and it really was FINE dining in the dining room. We saved up quite a while to go and couldn't afford another for several years. With the current pricing model many more people can afford to go (and more often) and there are many ships that need to be filled. They have to continue to price to get people on board and then create demand for things they want you to buy once there. It's never going to go back the other way. That's reality in a world where everyone's looking for a bargain. Not going to lie; I'm happy to be able to cruise more than once a year and we spend very little on board. Our choice.

Is it true the are cutting fresh water out also? I heard that in 2017 they will stop offering free water with meals (you can buy bottled water) then I heard from a reliable source on the internet that they will eliminate salt water in the pools in 2018. Get this.... toilet water is gone in 2019. Holy crap... whoops I meant holy cow what's next? Fresh air in the casino?

Guess if you are full of it, you will need to plan accordingly. :)

As someone who skims all the cruise lines' forums and has sailed NCL several times (including two weeks ago) ... I do NOT think you want to switch to NCL. They are slashing everything to the bone and have been for a good while now.

Correct. Ive been browsing the NCL and Princess forums and the mood in this one is much better. Everyone here is talking about the next cruise. Over there its cut, cut, cut.

Agree with you. Our first cruise was in an oceanview in 1988. We are paying less now in a balcony than we did for that cruise. Are things different, absolutely, but I would rather have a lower base price and add on what is important to me. If all things are included the price would be too high to sail frequently. Of course there are things they are taking away that do annoy me such as the live entertainment, pub, tribute bands, etc. Time will tell if these push me to other vacation options or not. Cruising overall seems to be going in this direction [emoji45] not just royal.

Maybe they'll bring back the pub entertainment in the form of a drummer who beats out the rowing cadence. Exercise AND entertainment!

Elevator usage.

In an effort to conserve electricity/fuel, elevators will only be available on the first and last days to facilitate boarding and debarkation.

On all other days, the elevators will be restricted to those on scooters or individuals who present medical disability documentation to the "elevator security" personel stationed at a kiosk in front of each elevator bank on each floor.

We don't cruise often - as we do a variety of other types of vacations, as well - and can only take one bigger vacation a year. We're going to be on the Allure in March. It's costing us about the same as it did in 2009 on the Liberty (both 7 day cruises - and both outside balcony cabins). The cruise prior to that was way back in 1994. It cost only about $100 less than what we're paying now - and that was on Majesty in an outside cabin with a porthole!

As we know the MDR isn't what it used to be - we're trying more specialty restaurants this upcoming cruise. In 2009 - we did Chops and Portofino - so we had 5 nights in the MDR. This time we will be trying 150 Central Park, Giovanni's, Chops - and the Chef's Table (just added the Chef's Table with the 20% off specialty restaurants sale - at $76 vs $95pp).

Cruising is really still a good bargain compared to paying to stay at a deluxe hotel, paying for entertainment and eating in nicer restaurants 3 meals a day.

Thanks for this! Makes me a bit sorry we did not cruise back then because I would have loved to try this experience, but happy to be able to cruise more now because of the price. Realizing that it is comparatively cheaper makes me think I will splurge more on specialty restaurants.

It's not just Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, it's all the cruise lines. Check out the other boards and everyone's all talking the same. Cuts are everywhere with ALL the lines. Unfortunately, it's the way it is.

Just because everyone's cutting back doesn't make it right.

I do too love to cruise. I do also enjoy the dining experience that we have experienced on past cruises and each of us has tipping points.

Don't get me wrong. Allure was a very nice ship and the cruise overall was pleasant. It was a goal of ours to go on an Oasis class ship. Now that we have reached that goal and seeing all the pushes away from what it was to specialty up-charge dining for the great food it once was, I don't see any reason to be loyal to the cruise line anymore.

I am a cruise or two away from Diamond and the C&A benefits are really not very attractive to me to be an incentive to reach Diamond.

When we first started cruising back in 2009 we heard so many things about the food from the other lines that didn't come close to the quality of food Royal provided. In my opinion that is no longer the case during our past three years that it once was.

We love cruising and that won't stop, but I will look at the best prices, value, entertainment, and itineraries for my future cruises from all the cruise lines.

Kevin, I see your signature with only a few RCI ships listed. Have you not sailed on a Radiance-class ship? I hope you will consider Jewel or Serenade (I prefer them as they have shower doors as opposed to curtains - personal preference! :p ).They are beautiful ships with lots of glass and windows everywhere, and the focus is "outward" - to the sea - where it should be, IMO. The ship is large enough to enjoy and (I feel) small enough to maintain that excellent level of service.

Diamond status is very nice with the free drinks and other fine perks. Please let us know if this is a consideration for you at all.
