AARP Carnival Gift Cards

Carnival itself is having a pretty good sale like that too, depending on what your specific code is. It's only good on cruises March 2024-Dec 2024 (which sucks because we have a Feb 2024 one scheduled already), but you get pretty good OBC. We booked 2 rooms for us and our 2 kids for a 5 day cruise, my husband and I each in a room, and got $200 OBC per room. Plus we also booked my mom one and she had a great casino offer that gave her $500 OBC and drinks on us in the casino. This was for a 5 day cruise. With gratuities, it was just over $525 per person for the 3 rooms (2 OV and 1 porthole).

Carnival never throws me any special bones, I have to scrap around 🤣. So its 10 percent off AARP gift cards and whatever I can find either directly through Carnival or big box. Longer cruises tend to be big box and the 5 day variety I usually go direct.

Just last week AARP sent me an advertisement for British Airlines giving AARP discount.  Tonight I just had my 20 year old sign up for AARP.  He is a competitive Irish Dancer and needs to go to Scotland for a competition in October.  He will go to Europe at least 2 more times in the next year.  I love that there is no longer an age restriction!

It's strange, Allstate Rewards made a few tweaks to their games to be a little better, but waited until they were shutting down. As of a couple weeks ago, the scratch-off game was responding to mouse swipes faster and the size of the cursor got bigger to make it easier to scratch off. They added Connect 4. Now the graphics on spin the wheel have been improved.

Since these rewards program companies operate rewards websites for multiple companies, I wonder if it's just Allstate that's getting rid of it. The rewards site company might be making improvements because they still operate rewards for other companies. It wouldn't surprise me if Allstate decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

Recently AARP card cost for Princess increased to $460 for a $500 card. Will the rest also change?

Who knows.  One hopeful thing is that Princess cards have had varying discounts before (15%, 10%, and 8%), but Carnival cards have always remained steady at a 10% discount.

I would say most definitely an Allstate decision. Must be a money loser. Their heart clearly hasn't been into it for quite a while.

I wonder if this is just a ploy to get people to spend their points (or void the points of people who have accumulated too many) and then they are going to be like, "Surprise! We are bringing it back!" like 3 months after they close it down.

There are other differences - you have to be a member for Carnival cards, not so for Princess or HAL, the max number of cards is different, etc.

Doubt it. They will lose a bunch of people to AARP, so if it is their plan, it’s going to fail spectacularly.

I had to double check - this is the AARP gift card thread.

This was originally the Allstate thread, but they changed the name and merged it with the AARP thread since Allstate is going away.

In all fairness it is both Allstate and AARP for now. Mods married the Allstate thread with AARP since Allstate is heading for extinction. the first 230 pages here are Allstate.

In the past, they would give out codes that could be altered slightly to create new codes. By simply moving the date to the front or back of the code, or changing the date between 4-digit & 2-digit format, we could get 3-4 times more points by sharing them here. I don't think they intended that because not everyone got the same code format. It went on for years, then all of a sudden it stopped. We can still do it every once in a while, but back then it worked for every code. I could be wrong, but I think they stopped doing it because they realized we figured out their trick and were sharing them. We have a ton more points than they probably ever expected individuals to have. So to suggest they might try to wipe the slate clean, so to speak, is probably unlikely, but I'd call it plausible.

I'm curious, when the merge occurred, was there a post from the mods to help explain the "situation" to people.. or was it like "let's just pull the lever and watch them squirm a bit"?   LOL

Tom

I would defer to the latter Tom, after all the mods have a difficult time dealing with the opinions of many on here and have to sometimes place some people in the sin bin.  Gotta give them their due and put a smile on their face if some did squirm a bit.

I requested the name of the big Allstate thread be changed to AARP because we learned that Allstate Rewards is ending in October. We were using the Allstate thread as an AARP thread anyway because the group of people who discuss these discount gift cards has been relatively small for years. That other AARP thread was just created a couple weeks ago and was only a couple pages long. Prior to that, those of us in the Allstate thread were pretty much the only ones talking about AARP cards. Threads get merged all the time because people often create new threads for existing topics without searching. There is a notation within the comments notifying users that the title of this one was changed.

I’ve seen quite a few threads about AARP cards but never a long one. New ones kept getting started. I can see confusion when someone now for the first time clicks on this thread expecting it to be about AARP and is met with mostly Allstate comments (without the clarification Allstate is the subject). Maybe it should just be titled discount gift cards.

Most people will miss the notation in a random comment on page 230whatever.

For what it's worth, we'll continue to share Allstate promo codes, but only for one more month. That's when they'll stop distributing codes. After that, it shuts down completely at the end of Oct. Just as there was some AARP discussion when this was the Allstate thread, there will be a little Allstate discussion...but not for much longer.

If someone has questions about AARP, they'll see this thread and ask. The good thing is, we've always managed to keep this thread near the top of the Carnival boards, so it's never hard to find. It's a good group of people who've been participating in these 2 rewards programs for years and we've always welcomed new people interested in the discount cards, so I don't understand the problem.

There is no problem, just initial confusion. I have no interest in reading 1000s of posts to figure it out.

I imagine in the future new Allstate threads will pop up from those who didn't get the memo. But I will know to ignore those, as I have no interest.

I know this might have been asked before but I could not find a concrete answer by searching the 236 pages...

Other than begging US friends, is there a way people from Canada can buy discounted Carnival gift cards directly, through AARP or other sources? Your answer will be greatly appreciated since we have an upcoming Carnival cruise trip next week and any savings would be great. Cheney
