What kind of lanyard to get?

Recommended Posts

Not really. Many aspects of women's "fashion" make little sense: e.g., high heels, makeup. Of course, men are not far behind: ties?. Cultural conventions long overdue for an overhaul?

In any case, It seems like choosing pockets for pants, swim trunks, cover-up robes would make very practical sense on a cruise: stow your keycard, smart phone, sunglasses, tissues, all sorts of stuff.

Seriously, just look at the meteoric growth in the popularity of convertible climbing pants (men and women): one lightweight, compact, quick-drying item that's shorts or pants and has no less than six pockets.

22yo DD was against using a lanyard, lost her card (fell out of her pocket) 30 minutes after boarding. She now wears a lanyard.

Even if women's clothes have pockets, many times they're just not functional.

I bought a braided 'leather' lanyard onboard a few cruises ago.

We also sail Princess. They're changing over to Medallions. Round with not much info on them.

If you're man, put it in your pocket...if you're a woman...how do you carry a comb, lipstick, tissues? Bring a teeny purse....something small, for your "stuff"...and put your card in that. You're not at a convention...you don't need your cabin key around your neck!

I don't carry a purse on board. Easy to keep the card safe. Most of my clothes don't have pockets.

Too bad fanny packs have become so horribly unfashionable. They were very handy on cruises. :D

Men have an advantage here in that most men's swimwear have at least some sort of pocket (unless you are one of those Speedo guys) as do most men's clothing. Even my gym shorts have a pocket. My wife always carries some sort of pool bag with sunscreen, etc. or a small purse. Neither of us like things hanging around our necks but that is a personal thing. We see lots of folks with the lanyards and don't judge, we just don't like to use them ourselves. If we were to get one it would be the detachable kind if only because it makes it easier to give your card to the bartender.

I still wear a fannypack, don't care if it's unfashionable. It's easy.

Nothing wrong with that. Our daughter pokes fun at mom when she does it in a good natured way. She still takes on onboard and uses it sometimes but the pool bag has more room for her various must have accessories. Myself, I travel light. :)

No lanyard for me. If I'm in swimwear, I tuck it in my top. If I'm walking around the ship, tuck it in my bra if I don't have a pocket. Easy Peasy. I don't carry my credit cards, keys and ID around my neck at home, why would I on Vacation. I realize some people like to show off their frequent cruiser pins, etc. but for me, it just looks dumb.

PLUS...doesn't the wind whip that thing around and hit you in the face??? No thanks. If I'm not carrying a bag or anything with me...in the bra it goes.

Ewww. Don't you sweat in the heat? I can't imagine. I even saw somewhere last year where a store posted a sign that they wouldn't accept boob or sock money. I don't think the bartenders would like to touch your card knowing it's been there :o but I could be wrong. I know I wouldn't and I'm far from being a germaphobe. But hey, do what works for you.

As far as it whipping around in my face, if it's windy I tuck it in my shirt or dress. I don't have pins or anything else on the lanyard, it's simply the easiest no brainer way for me to carry around the only thing I really need while on the ship so I can get a drink and into my cabin. I also get the kind that have the detachable end so it's easy to give to the bartender.

I like using the casino lanyard (more like a springy coil) when I'm wearing shorts or pants that have belt loops - it clicks on and is easy to use to get into the cabin or to put in the slot machine. However, I like most women, do not have the option of pockets or belt loops when wearing "night-time" wear. The springy lanyard does look a little off if you're wearing it around your neck and you're dressed nice - kind of takes away the "look."

This year I ordered the nice necklace-looking lanyards on Amazon - they have them in different styles and they really do look like a necklace - to wear in the evening. We'll see how they work out for us.

I don't carry a purse and I would never want to fish the S&S card out of my bra or bathing suit - that just seems nasty and gross. So, lanyard it is & if it bugs you, look away!!

I don't think Carnival wants me to fish out my S&S card out of my bathing suit either.😨😨

I have to wear a lanyard29d59ff4ef003cc959f37c195c9294bf.jpg

...but if you are a mom or anyone with a need for both your hands and arms at most times, no need for "lipstick" or a "brush", and no need to worry about having your cute little purse forgotten or stolen when you set it down somewhere...you get a lanyard....and you get the absolute silliest one EVER, just to annoy people who actually make a stink about how tacky there are. :D

LOL! I like the way you think.:D

Why does it matter what the other people do? Do what feels comfortable to you and quit your worry over whether it looks silly or unfashionable. As long as other people's behavior is not harming you or those around them why do you care? This goes for apparel in the dining room. I saw on JH's FB page someone complaining about a cap in the MDR. That used to be so taboo and I understand it offends people but really are you going to let that kind of thing affect your good time? Just * Look* Away!

Really? Wow.

After being REQUIRED (it's a security issue) to have work ID showing at all times while on the job, it doesn't bother me to wear my SandS card on a lanyard at all times.

I would suggest a lanyard with a split ring on the end. Easy to attached the S&S. Hard to lose. Also suggest getting a lanyard of your favorite sports team, college, hobby etc. Sometimes it can be a great conversation ice-breaker.

I have to say the red ones the casino gives out are crap.

You don't have to use your credit cards, keys, and ID at home as often as you do on a cruise ship.

You think wearing our S&S cards around our necks looks dumb. To each their own. Others think pulling a dirty, sweaty S&S card out of a bra, then handing it to someone (e.g. a bartender or guest services rep.), is gross.

that's why they won't be dropping any limes in my beer.

I forgot to mention they will not put a lime in your beer bottle anyway. It's against the rules. And you can lose your cheers package if you get caught doing it.

Thems the facts

You are not going to have your Cheers package revoked for putting a lime in your beer. That's got to be one of the craziest things I have ever heard. Especially since my friend did this on the Vista. They put the lime on the rim of the bottle or on the top, not in it. Not once did they say she couldn't put it in herself.
