What kind of lanyard to get?

Recommended Posts

Found it out last week. Right from the bartender. It's because of recycling. Its understandable.

I don't believe it one bit. They wouldn't give you the lime otherwise. And they sure as heck aren't going to make people lose out on hundreds of dollars for a piece of fruit that is provided by the bar. If they don't revoke Cheers privileges for sharing, they most certainly won't for a lime. I call shenanigans.

Ok whatever...I don't drink beer anyway.

I stick with hard liquor that is smuggled across the border and onto the ship. And illegal cigars rolled by peasants. Other that that I never break the rules.

I was standing right there on the Lido deck, when the warning went out.

I think the thread has been hijacked😞

I think you're right about the hijacked part. I can see them not giving limes with beer if that's what they want, but I think that bartender is misinformed. For what it's worth I don't drink beer, either.

If you're man, put it in your pocket...if you're a woman...how do you carry a comb, lipstick, tissues? Bring a teeny purse....something small, for your "stuff"...and put your card in that. You're not at a convention...you don't need your cabin key around your neck!

I thought I was the only one who don't get the lanyard thing. My husband keeps his card in his pocket. I carry a small wristlet that holds my card and my inhaler. The only thing I want dangling around my neck is the string to my bathing suit;p;p

I wear a lanyard daily at work with a retractable cord so I can just reach out my badge to clock in or out, and swipe in and out of the parking garage without removing it from my neck.

I'm also the one on excursions with a fanny pack that has a water bottle holder and space for a small umbrella. When everyone else is overheating and sweating on an excursion I pull out my umbrella for personal shade and take a swig of my water. If we need to climb up some rocks for a view my hands are clear while other people are juggling their bags...

Yeah it's nonsense. Tell spraygun to order a corona in a glass. I've seen them squeeze the lime and drop it in.

I use a lanyard with a clip that fits through the hole in my s&s card. I wear it in the pool - handy in case I order a refreshing beverage. Going ashore, I wear it inside my shirt, but in a pouch that also holds driver license, credit card & cash. Purses can be lost or stolen and I'm not going to carry a purse while ziplining or swimming.

I actually use a coiled wristlet lanyard. This way I have the convenience of going in and out the room quickly (i.e.: going to iron or up on lido to grab a snack real quick) and it's small enough to fit easily in my wristlet purse for dinner (I don't carry a purse throughout the day, only a beach bag by the pool, but for most of my on ship activities I don't have a purse because it's annoying and I don't need it like I do on land). Also, it isn't as noticeable as regular lanyards, so I don't feel it when I'm wearing my bathing suit etc. I don't like to carry a bag if I can help it (for instance, at the buffet it's annoying to balance a plate and a bag). I'm female so most of my clothes (sundresses, nice shorts, bikinis) are not pocket friendly, and even if they are, they are shallow, unlike say a mans cargo short. To the poster who suggested pants that are lanyard friendly such as those duo pant/shorts with zippers, even on my son's cubscouts trips I wouldn't wear them. I see no issues with remaining stylish, feminine, and comfortable and if a lanyard accomplishes that, then great. You can enjoy your shorts with 6 pockets. I'll be just fine over here with a frosty drink, turquoise maxi dress, and my S&S wristlet/lanyard. I never get all the hate for lanyards, like why respond just to be mean? Funny thing is, most of the naysayers do so because they feel they are tacky, however, I really don't think they could EVER give a woman like me fashion tips. Stay in your lane people.

We use ones we found at Walmart where the card fits in a small clear pouch. Works great for taking my ID and CC with us in port.

We have always used them and I never found it to be a hassle or in the way like some of the above comments. It is out of there way but quickly accessible for the few dozen times it is needed daily.

The lanyards from the casino are coils and don't hold up well. I have one from the Behind the Fun tour and one Carnival gave me. My son lost his card 3 times one day so I got him a lanyard and that didn't happen again. I don't get people thinking they are tacky.

Many times they now come with a pre punched hole. I take my own hole puncher in case it isn't.

I agree, the casino ones have too much elasticity. They are purposely built that way though so you can clip it on to you and it can stay comfortably in the slot machine. Many land based casinos have the same thing and I always see die hard slot players using them so they don't forget their card. If I ever forgot my lanyard at home I would buy the most basic one I could find in the gift shop. The prices actually aren't bad, a basic one is around $4 or so. They have really nice braided "leather" ones for around $10.

Have to agree with above, got a free one with a behind the scenes tour and have used it ever since. Can easily fit in a small wristlet I take to dinner (the only time I don't care to wear around my neck) but especially around the ship at the pool and etc., so convenient to just always have with you. Never know when you want a drink ;p. Everybody just needs to do what suits them instead of getting so upset over others actions. Be happy :D.

First time cruiser. When I use the Sail and Sign card is it swiped to read the magnetic strip or do they scan the barcode? The reason I ask, is I'm wondering what kind of pouch to get for my Lanyard. Should I get one that allows the card to be easily removed for the strip to be swiped, or can I get a transparent one that closes so they can just scan the barcode through it but the card is secure in the pouch?

On my last cruise, they sold lanyards that were a string of pearls and some were gold and silver jewelry looking. They were cute. My sister bought us all one and I use it at work. I have no shame in wearing a lanyard on a cruise.

My favorite lanyard was on a string of beads. It looked like a pretty necklace. I used it until it all of the sudden broke one day and the beads went everywhere. Since then, I have a new favorite lanyard with little jewels affixed to a black strand. The beads are very pretty though. I was able to wear mine for multiple cruises before it popped.

On the Conquest recently, upon entering an exiting the ship, the barcode was scanned with a hand-held scanner (no more machine that goes 'bing!') I don't know whether the clear plastic would interfere with the scanning though.

My card is either in my pocket or on a simple lanyard with a clip.
