At the AC Marriott now. Our first time at this hotel. Very clean. Friendly service. We usually rotate between Hilton Caribe and Marriott Stellaris. With the Caribe not accepting (non-FEMA) guests until 2019, the Stellaris prices have skyrocketed. We decided to give the AC a try. Would definitely be happy staying here again. Plenty within walking distance to eat, drink, and make last minute purchases (small grocery store, Walgreens, CVS).

While out and about last night, it looks like Marriott Stellaris, La Concha Renaissance, and AC are all definitely open for business. I am sure there are others that I didn’t notice.

As we were walking along Ashford last night we only heard one generator. (Compared to December when every other building was still on a generator.) on the way from the airport we noticed there are Still lots of traffic lights not working....either still totally out or just flashing.

Thanks for posting, Skiiergirl; Glad you are happy with your hotel choice.

With respect to the Stellaris prices having risen, I just looked and the La Concha rate is about $40 lower for November 2018 than the Stellaris. I thought that the LC Renaissance was considered the nicer property, so that does make me wonder.

Does anyone have recent experience of Embassy Suites and Casino?

We will be staying at Embassy Suites in just a couple weeks. We've been there before and liked it. I'll plan to post here after our trip to let you all know how things are now.

Just got back from our cruise. On the way down we had booked Hotel Miramar but we ended up being delayed in Orlando overnight so we didn't end up staying there. We had a no cancellation policy but the hotel did tell me that we could have a credit there for a year, better than nothing I suppose but we won't be there within a year to use it. On the 2 nights after the cruise we stayed at Palm Condado Suites Best Western Plus and it was really nice. Our room was large with a king bed, walk in closet with fridge, safe, coffee maker, and microwave and the best part was the balcony. It also had a really basic continental breakfast. The bathroom was fully remodeled with a big walk in shower and we had a balcony. We scored a deal on Hotels.com for $125 and then with taxes and fees came to $167. It was well worth that. It was very centrally located to many restaurants, stores, and the beach was one block down. We were very happy with our stay at this hotel.

How was the cleanliness?

We are currently at the Best Western Plus Condado Palm. Got in late last night. Check-in was a breeze, very nice gal at front desk. Room is okay for one night .....bathroom is very tiny. Do have safe, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, WIFI, balcony and view of ocean through the buildings in front of us. No issues with cleanliness .... pretty clean. Ate at restaurant in hotel and food was good. Great location, Walgreens and CVS across the street and open 24 hours. We are here pre-cruise for one night. Post cruise staying at the AC Marriott.

Thanks for this information. We booked this hotel for our February 2019 cruise based on needs (two queen beds), price and location. Like you, we are only staying one night. I'm glad the hotel will be okay for our brief pre-cruise stay.

We were there in November staying on the top floor. At that time they were using generator. We have air conditioning and it was fine. The roof top is not as nice as the pictures.

It's close to every where, the staffs are very friendly.

We stayed at the Miramar (606 Ponce de Leon Ave) one night before our cruise starting March 31. I took whatever I could when my first hotel was cancelled in November. It is an independent, but what a great place. It's older, but has received a face lift. Everything was clean and electric & elevators worked. They have a rooftop deck, I did not do my homework and only found it the next morning. It would have been great to spend part of the evening up there, but that's on me. They also have a small fitness center. One of the highlights was the hotel is only about 30 yards from a bus stop. For 75¢ each way (exact change), we were able to spend the morning in Old Town. It was surreal in Old Town on a Saturday morning with no cruise passengers, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Definitely recommend and we'll be staying there on any trips out of San Juan in the future.

Stayed at AC Marriott May 6 (post cruise). Very nice hotel, modern fesh vibe. Coming from the cruise arrived pretty early, before check-in and no rooms ready. They stored our luggage and said would call when room became available. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Offered bottled water, called us a taxi to old town and toured OSJ, had lunch and decided to head back to hotel around 2:00 (no call). When we got back room was ready. Room very nice ..... on the 8th floor, balcony, slight view of ocean, industrial but quite nice, tile floors (no carpeting) 2 bottles of water in refrig, safe, coffee maker, nice big shower ..... Decided to go to sister hotel Marriott Stellaris which is on the beach and just a few blocks away, guests staying at AC have access to pool and beach with towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas ... very nice pool area. AC is walking distance to many restaurants, CVS, Walgreens. AC services include, in room coffee, tea, and 2 bottles of water per stay, high speed Internet in room and public areas, Puerto Rico and US 1-800 calls, 2 welcome cocktails with local rum in AC lounge from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm with drink voucher, bottled water at fitness center, computer use at AC library with printer capabilities, yoga relaxation class and bicycle rental. Also has a nice roof top pool which we did not use, but did see. At Marriott Stellaris you can enjoy beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, $30 match play coupon at Stellaris Casino (valid only on table games), tennis court rental (reservation required and fees apply). Condado area is up and running, saw very little damage, same in OSJ. Felt very comfortable walking at night in Condado. Walked to Oceano (restaurant right on Beach) and had an excellent dinner. The only negative with room was very little light over sink area. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.:):D:cool:

Stayed at Decanter Hotel last Saturday night. Nice boutique hotel, good free WiFi. Grab a room with a balcony, as the interior rooms are really just that - no windows to the outside world. There were complaints of noise (both inside and out), but we had no issues.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm just going to add my .02 from our stay in OSJ last month.

Prior to our cruise we stayed at DA HOUSE. I did a complete review from our cruise and details are listed within it with TONS of pictures if anyone is interested.

My final thoughts are AVOID this place!

I reluctantly decided to go with a place called Da House. There seemed to have mixed reviews on it and not many on here had actually experienced a stay there. I figured it's only for 1 night...how bad can it be? There's running water and a/c and electric. It would suit my needs at the time and was a decent price compared to other places. $157.07 for a "queen room with juliet balcony" whatever that meant. I had a feeling it was the same as our Sheraton room last time.

You can find my complete review (it will be several pages/post long and you'll have to scroll to see all the details since it's within my review of our cruise) but it STARTS HERE scroll down to post 34 to start.

Here are my final thoughts on this place:

1) Mobility limited-no one with ambulation problems could ever stay here. The steps were horrid to carry luggage on. The entrance is on the SIDE of the building and you have to pull your luggage down the brick sidewalk to get to the entrance, then up some steps into the building, then up 4 flights of steps with your luggage just to get to the lobby area. There was NO help with our luggage when checking in or out. There isn't an elevator, so if you on the 3rd or 4th floor...even more steps.

2) No help from the staff when we were checking in or out...with luggage. It does list concierge service.

3) NO A/C and some BS story about our room being the only room in the hotel, of 4 floors, that was on a different system...ALSO, I did talk to the manager about that and he said "Nooooo, it's all on the same system". LOL

4) roaches-need I say more?

5) filthy floors and torn up with tiles missing and it looked like the room was unfinished with mudding/drywall.

6) Uneven floors: from one room to the next and into the bathroom there's a step that I tripped on several times because I wasn't expecting it.

7) Glass bathroom door for everyone to see everything that goes on in there. Also, not appropriate for people that might be traveling together that are not a "close family". Site says "private bathroom" :')

8) Mold around the vents on the wall

9) Mold on the cushion on the chairs at the roof top

10) Broken skylights that looked like it could fall in on someone down below in the little areas that were off to the side of the rooms for gathering.

11) No t.v, No phone, No hairdryer, No iron...all listed as amenities included.

12) Work desk that was unusable (unless you were about 3' tall) and no plugs.

13) Slippery floor d/t condensation on the floor from the heat.

14) Plunge pool listed??? It says rooftop pool AND plunge pool. Hmmm There was a small box up there that was a little bigger than a hottub that they called a pool.

15) No ice machines. We wanted ice and I asked at the front desk and he grabbed an ice bucket and opened up a Styrofoam cooler and started scooping ice out of it. Weird.

16) Very hard bed and mattress. Site says "premium bedding"

If there's anything else I have forgotten, I'm sure I mentioned it in the review.

WOULD I RECOMMEND? NO WAY!!! Not now, not then, never again. :(

If you go to their site online, you will see very nice pictures of rooms...our room looked NOTHING like this. Nothing at all and it was what I was expecting.

I also might add the reason I had trouble finding a place is because there are 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child) and most places only had room for 2 people OR if you had more than 2 people then their minimum stay had to be 2 nights and we were only staying 1. So that was my struggle to find a place or one of the recommended places people list on here.
