What has happened to the quality of the on board activities / shipboard experience

I agree with CruiseMom42. We've also had non-functioning toilets, water running down the walls of our stateroom, and long waits for a table in the MDR. Considering the amount of money spent on these cruises, I'm often left scratching my head in wonder that I continue to do it. I suppose it's the travel that we love, but though we are 4 star, we have no real plans for cruising soon.

Goodness, why haven't you two left HAL years ago. No reason to torture yourself.

It even gets worse (entertainment wise). HAL seems to be expanding their use of documentary movies (in the main showroom) rather than bringing aboard another Guest Entertainer or production show. There is a recent posting about this...

I have asked before but did not get an answer.

Does anyone know if Bill Prince is still in charge of HAL entertainment?

Pretty sure I answered you earlier.

According to his linked in page he is still the "Director of Special Events" and in this article from last year, still in charge http://www.seatrade-cruise.com/news/news-headlines/holland-america-layers-more-detail-on-exc-explorations-central.html

I cannot help but wonder how they are going to deal with 1250 passengers on Zodiac tours. Either very few passengers will be able to do those tours....of they will have to invent some new kind of miracle Zodiac. I do not recall seeing any Zodiac that can handle more than 15 (most are smaller). We have booked one of these EXC cruises (41 days) and are looking forward to trying something new. But we hope that HAL does not promise things they cannot deliver.

Wow ,,, cumbia. Any day of cruising is a good day.... You all have to get over yourselves and just enjoy life a bit more...... Everything will be Ok...... Have a coffee or maybe a drink. Talk to the stranger sitting next to you. Tell a joke ,, Laugh.... Hum a tune.... Play in the casino..... Take a walk,, look at the sea and remember how small you really are.... Look into you're lovers eyes and remember why you fell in love,, Now tell them......... Complainers, Stay off my ships..... Go home.....

Any day of cruising is a good day.

Your post proves that a positive attitude and seeing the joy in life is everything...thank you!

Of course there will be limits - just as there are on very many line sponsored excursions, which are shown as "sold out" after the limit is reached. Also many HAL cruisers are of an age and limited mobility which will make climbining into, and bouncing around in, Zodiacs unappealing.

This seems to be precisely the sort of offering that those who say HAL must widen their appeal if they hope to survive.

Of all the answers here, it would have been very much easier to simply wirte, yes or no, not to mention kinder.

I did not see a previous response if there was one but a

simple ' yes or' no would be great. :) IF someone is able and willing to provide that. Thank you.

Have the tours been posted for your cruise? I'm curious to see how many Zodiac tours there really will be. The Zodiac blurb says these will be on "select" voyages. I suspect they won't be at all ports on those voyages. And even when the Zodiac tours are offered there will probably be plenty of other tours available. Navybankerteacher is correct that there are always limitations to the number of people who can take some tours. Flightseeing comes to mind. I think there were only 2 or 3 planes that went out from Anchorage when we were there last fall.

I think what Sail is trying to say is "Thank you." :)

Sail said it would be so easy for someone to reply with a simple yes, or no, and if someone was able and willing to do so, ..... then,,,,,,,, it w ould be appropeiate for sail to say thank you for p providing a meaning response. Sail is a quite able to say what she wishes but Sail has not yet gotten an answer that would earn a thank you. :) No rea son to say thank you unless and/or until i know the answer to my question.

No one else gave ANY answer. This doesn't deserve a "Thank You" because it wasn't a yes or no?

I Still do not know the answer. I do not '

do' Linked in.

You expect thanks for what? I do not yet know the answer It is quite clear no one wishes to simply wirte, yes or no and that is s just fine.. An d not all that surprising.

New England was hit very badly with many severe winter the last few weeks and I lost all pow r to my house, several times for extended periods. I had no heat, no lights, no tv, no wifi so have not been arround here unil I jus got back heat and lights as did my neighbors. It has been a bit steressful and it would be great if somone would be so courteous to simply wirite yes or no an d be done with it. :D At this point....... I hope no one bothers an d I will be just fine. I will not be running to linked in. I' will get my answer eleswhere. No reason I can see he for any message of thanks.. Thanks for what ? I don't have an answer. :)

for what? ;p The local weather report is on tv right now and I' have learned we are to get another snowstorm early next week.I've already brushed off the comedy played out here . Perspective is great. Be well and take the best care I need to get ready for another snowstorm and another possible lengthy loss of power again.

Hope all other New Englanders on CC made out okay in the many storms we've just experienced.

Y'all have lost me. What does Linkedin have to do with Bill Price being in charge of HAL entertainment?

From what I can figure, only that it gives more to the story than was already answered in the post.

The fact that the post which did answer the question didn't use the word "yes" or "no" means it doesn't count, the way I am reading it.

Much ado about nothing.

Linked In is often the most current available information available about where a person is working and what position they hold. It is, however, reliant on that person keeping their information up to date.

I have no clue who this guy is you are asking about, but her answer said the Linked-In article said he was still in charge. You don’t have to click on the link or ‘do’ anything to read that sentence. I’m not sure what part of that answer you are missing. But if you only want a Yes or No answer, the answer appears to be YES

But if you want to truly verify if he is still working, I would suggest calling them at 206-281-3535 and asking. They would know more than anyone on these boards.

Game shows and additional entertainment, such as in the Crows Nest, are not a suggested improvement. It's a suggestion to return to things they cut.

Absolutely, it is more about what HAL used to have that they don’t now. Not trying to make them like another line. There was one game show on our 15 day itinerary. They canceled the other one they planned for the following week. There are only so many gemstones, watches or spa treatments one can ‘entertain’ themselves with.

Thanks, Kazu. Now we can put this to bed.

But this has about the same meaning as "Joe Schmo" is the head of housekeeping on the Mythodam! Perhaps I am a bit demented. But after more than forty years of extensive cruising, on many lines, we have never understood the fixation some folks have on "who is the Captain," "who is the Cruise Director." "who is the Chief Engineer," who is the Environmental Officer, etc. Who cares? And why?
