"LIVE" - Ovation of the Seas (April 9-26, 2018), Bill & Marie's slow boat to China

Recommended Posts

I did mention we were going to Jamie's last night. Sorry to say I took only two pictures. The food was that good, in fact so far it is our favorite shipboard meal.

We started with the garlic bread and the meat plank, amazing. Then I had the lamb chops and Marie had Caesar salad with salmon.

For dessert we both had vanilla ice cream, mine with a shot of espresso. We also had two gentlemen waiting on us that were great conversationalists so all in all a great experience. We need to go back, even if just for lunch.

Well we missed our 1:30 pm reservation on North Star. We had a consecutive cruiser meeting at 12 and then we went to lunch so it slipped our minds. Oh well.

For a surprise we came back to the cabin to a plate of chocolate covered strawberries from the Windjammer Staff with a note apologizing for our inconvenience. We went there for breakfast and the silverware Marie grabbed had food on it and we had handed it to one of the officers in Windjammer.

Tonight we're we're supposed to be back in Chops but all cruise we're could not get a change to our 7:45 reservation, too late for us. So we canceled and had our first dinner at Coastal Kitchen. Very nice, we both enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. Marie had shrimp cocktail, braised short ribs and ice cream. I had grilled Mediterranean octopus, seared tuna and ricotta cheese cake. After tonight we're looking forward to eating the for the 2nd cruise.

Even Marie who was skeptical really liked it.

Yes, and don't forget to say hello to Snow and Amy from Lily and Gavin.

Loving your review & your pictures are great! Love the one of Marie in the pool !

Thank you, glad to have you along.

Very nice to acknowledge the dirty silverware. I have never heard of this before.

That was a first for me too. I was wondering why the officer wanted our cabin number.

Here is the plan for the morning. 8 am we go to the music hall on deck 4 to pick up or new sea passes. 10:30 am we head back to the music hall so they can escort us off to zero out the ship.

We then wait to clear immigration so we're can get back on board. Bags are packed so the cabin steward can move them to the new cabin.

Bill. Thank you for doing this review. Pictures are beautiful. No Hawaii this year? We are looking at 2019. Would you recommend Hawaii to Vancouver or Vancouver to Hawaii. We like warm weather.

Thanks!

Nope, this took up too much vacation time and the Hawaii cruises this year were too short, just 10 days with no overnights.

I now find I prefer the Hawaii to Vancouver so I can do a lot in the islands then have the at sea days at the end to relax.

Our trip back on board did not go uneventful thanks to me. When we were back in the cabin I was looking through our passports that the ship gave back to us yesterday. There was a Singapore immigration card in the passports that I thought was from when we flew in so I tossed them in the trash.

Little did I know they were for today's arrival. So when we tried to go through immigration we got hauled (politely escorted) into the back room where we had to fill out new cards. Oops

Always try to put the longer flight at the beginning of your cruise. The vacation anticipation helps with the rigors of travel. :)
