Carnival Dream Flooded

I guess I missed it. How was their journey home ruined? Did the ship get in late or something?

Depending on what got damaged (clothes, passports, cash) it could have been an unpleasant trip home. I guess the point of my post is that I'm not sure a refund for a disaster is a "deal" or "hitting the jackpot." My bedroom got flooded during a hurricane about 12 years ago. Closet got soaked and clothes mildewed. Entire wardrobe ruined. a Lot of things were ruined and a lot inconveniences arose. Yeah, I got insurance money. But it certainly wasn't a "deal" I'd like to voluntarily encounter.

What a deal. Free cruise + 50% off for getting a little bit wet. No need to spend money and play Bingo. Those passengers hit the jackpot.

Have to agree with everyone else, Hardly a jackpot. Pack a vacation suitcase. Now add up how much it would cost to replace it and everything within. Most people don't realize just how much that would be. Not saying that everyone suffered a total loss, but I suspect at least a few pairs of dress shoes and numerous suitcases were ruined.

I just watched an NBC news story on my local NBC station (something you can't do on a Carnival ship BTW-no more network local station availability). One passenger interviewed had a great perspective on the situation. While others were commenting the water/flooding reminded them of the Titanic, this guy said he knew they weren't in trouble because while he was impacted, he was on the 9th deck. Yea...ships don't sink from the top decks down. Lol.

Terrible! I hope Carnival does more than replace the carpets and use a shopvac.... Portion of our church was flooded for a *very* brief period of time and HAD to replace the carpet, sheetrock, etc. Mold is a very serious issue!

Just a note, sheetrock is very rarely used on ships, due to the ever present danger of water. Mold requires an organic material to live on (the paper facing on the sheetrock, or wood), neither one of which are present in cruise ship cabins. Talk to mold remediation specialists, and even things like the pressed wood furniture in the cabins can resist mold if dried within 24 hours. And lots of the marine furniture manufacturers use a fungicide/mildewcide in the glue used to make the press board, further reducing the risk. Steel and aluminum don't tend to mold a whole lot.

QFT.

BTW, I thought "CHENG" was a USN thing. Merchant Marine, too?

A "deal" and "hit the jackpot" you say? Really? Depending on what got wet in the rooms, the damage could have been thousands of dollars worth, maybe even irreplaceable sentimental items, not to mention the remainder of the cruise and your journey home are ruined.

I think water tends to flow along the floor—not jump on desks or into drawers or closets. Maybe a few pair of shoes and luggage would be on the floor. If you keep your thousands of dollars worth of belongings on the floor...........well.

Journey home ruined? With a free cruise?

John Heald posted that carpets we're all replaced and rooms readied within 6 hours, that's impressive! Passengers were then back in their rooms. Only 2 people took advantage of offer to disembark and fly back from Mexico. Looks like Carnival did a great job.

It was funny to see new story today that compared the Dream to the Titanic experience. Guess we all can see Fake News first hand....

According to JH ... the pipe broke in the hallway around 6pm. Within 6 hours the carpet was taken up, floors dried, and new, dry carpet laid. Folks affected were able to sleep in their beds that night. Only 2 passengers opted to fly home early.

Not gonna argue how accurate this is ... just passing on what he said on FB.

It's also a reason why a person could be skeptical about whether or not he's peddling fake news. It's not outright untruth but it isn't the most trustworthy information.

Well, I guess there is always two sides of the coin. I have never seen him caught in a lie, but taking the downside is an option. I guess he has some redeeming value if “it is not outright untruth”. He does the largest travel blog on the net, so I guess some people must trust him a little more......

Well of course he will always have his groupies, cheerleaders of Carnival and the Naive newbies who won't remember his lie about how it would be "Brilliant" and it turned out the exact opposite of brilliant.:):)

Oh Darn....I have been caught. We do so hope to someday be “Smart”. So it is truth and on the other side groupies, cheerleaders and naive newbies. Sounds like an objective viewpoint.
