The whole thread is insane.  You are talking about bringing beach balls and inflatable footrests for a cruise that you paid thousands of dollars for.

I don't blame them in the least, they're not the ones who are insane.

It seems clear to me that X does not want folks relaxing, especially in their rooms.

We should be out, at all times, listening to the ear-splitting music and watching the bizarre Eden performances.

No thanks.

Just ordered a couple of beach balls to use for foot rests.  I have a sunset veranda, but if I had an infinite balcony, I would definitely by a few yards of black out material and hang curtains so I could sit on the deck while my husband sleeps.

On the one hand I really appreciate the blow up foot stools and beach ball ideas. They are really helpful solutions to the lack of footstools on Edge. On the other hand, I think it is ludicrous that passengers must resort to bringing blow up items to use on a premium ship charging premium prices because that ship does not provide basic comforts  on their verandas. There is something wrong with this picture.

I believe it is ludicrous as well.  I bought 2, one for my husband and I.  But, we also have a regular veranda next year for 10 days and so we know we will use them then as well.  I agree with you totally.  X has lost me on this one...but I think X will hopefully come around.

Of course the music is at an ear-splitting level.  Their target audience is all deaf and used to being bombarded with LOUD music.  Since I'm not part of their target audience and I HATE loud music, I think I'll pass.

Hi Linda, I read Host Anne's review and she also said the music was LOUD ALL OVER THE SHIP......guess I am just getting old but that is so NOT in my wheelhouse.....and is definitely NOT appealing.  I remember a cruise we sailed Century a few years ago and I had to ask the CD to turn it down on that smallish ship.. I can't imagine how LOUD it is on this big ship:classic_wacko:

I love the idea of the footrest and will look into it.  For those of you that have one, do you bring some sort of pump to inflate it and if so which one do you recommend?

Mine blows up by mouth in 1.5 minutes supposedly. I haven't done it yet. I'm planning to have the butler do it or I'll probably pass out and end up in Medical again. 😉  (please note the winky face).

Okay, I got my laugh today. I just went to pack my inflatable footstool and when I took it out of the package, this is what I found:

The IV Survival Kit (inflatable footrest for the balcony or extra table for room service,  eye shades to block the light and ear plugs to block out the sound of the window and shade mechanisms when your partner gets up early and goes out on the balcony (and a coupon for another pillow). All for $13.99!

I couldn't believe the pillow came with ear plugs and eye shades - you can't make this stuff up!  🙂

I look at this as a opportunity for Celebrity to offer  foot stools and hanging curtains for rent as a precruise purchase.  This will allow them to help further maximize their profits. Tables will also be provided with room service for an added fee to cover handling.   The tables will be removed after two hours.

By them doing this all bags will be searched and anything that looks as if it can be used as a foot rest or curtain will be confiscated until the end of the cruise.  This will be to prevent unsafe material and conditions that may jeopardize safe operation of the ship.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Count me in the camp who finds this ludicrous as well! I was shaking my head and muttering under my breath as I placed my order on Amazon for 2 blow up foot rests for our upcoming Edge cruise. One of my favorite pastimes is sitting on the veranda, feet up and reading a book or just relaxing, so I will do what I have to do to continue enjoying the veranda. But it irks me to no end that I had to purchase these things. Perhaps I will stow them away for the next guests and let the butler know so they don't get tossed out because I am sure after this cruise, I will not need them as I plan to return to the S class ships and hoping the existing veranda furniture remains.

Thank you to the poster who came up with this idea - but still annoyed :classic_wink:

I'm taking a sleep mask and earplugs for sure. Will use a pile of Hoppen pillows for a footrest.

The beach ball photo appears to have   regular balcony chairs..Wonder how they will work with the Clunkier 80s rattan models!

Was your  bed by the balcony or bath?   If by the balcony did it present any problems that you would have preferred it by the bath.

How was the Spa, in room shower and Blu?

Did you utilize the open window much?

thanks

Sorry that I missed answering your questions earlier:

Bed - ours was by the veranda area. No problems, but it’s “six of one, half dozen of another” - I travel with a service dog, so we liked having extra space in front of the sofa as we entered or left the room, but more space close to the veranda also would have been welcome.

The spa was attractive, and I liked the young woman, Sara, who gave me a haircut. I walked around in the thermal suite (free for Aqua class) and mostly enjoyed the heated loungers facing the view. A huge deck area with three gold penguin statues are in front at the bow, only accessed through the spa. Big waste of space for general passenger use, IMHO.

in-room shower was excellent, although I’m glad our friends clued us in on how to operate the controls before I used it.

Blu was top-notch with excellent service. As good as Luminae, without the amuse-Bouches. Only a few misses, such as enormous, very fatty lamb shanks one night. It’s too bad the beautiful Blu dining room does not have windows, though.

We didn’t use the open window as much as we use a standard balcony. For one thing, you must stand there holding the button until the glass descends (I know, First World problem), and for another, the IV is small, and often I had to move a chair to reach the window control. Our room steward piled all the Kelly Hoppen pillows onto a chair overnight, which meant moving the pile of pillows to use the chair, etc. etc. It just was not as useful as a typical balcony.

VT, you made my day with your “IV Survival Kit!”

As you probably noticed, and as Host Anne’s very good review pointed out, the strong magnets on cabinet and bathroom doors make a bit of noise when they close, which can wake up a sleeping person in the room. So those ear plugs will be even more handy.

LOL! I noticed the bathroom door thing too but my DH has slept through a fire alarm before. 😮

i went back and looked at the Amazon description of the IV Survival Kit and realized it was for airplane travel. I can’t imagine taking out that footrest and blowing it up right now! I do have the earplugs firmly in place as I’m now at 30,000 feet with a 3 yr old talking loudly non-stop in back of me. The Martini Bar is probably quieter in comparison! Now if there were only something in the kit to keep the the little angel behind me from kicking the seat!!😦   Maybe I’ll put on the sleep mask and turn around and growl at her - maybe then she would keep her feet to herself. 😉

Here is another option for a veranda footstool. For several years we have used a folding stool bought at WalMart. It folds flat in the luggage but probably does weigh more than an inflatable. WalMart and Amazon have several options. Key spec is to get the height that you want.

Just read this ---- we were chatting about ordering our blow up footrest for our new cabin (have we said we have moved to a SV cabin before -- hee hee) and then stopped ourselves, looked and one another and at the same time said, "Should we by buying blow up foot rests for a cruise / 3 day stay that has cost us over £8,000?"

Nope

But off to look at Amazon now ………….

You couldn't make this up really -- come on Celebrity, this must make you look really stupid compared to other cruise lines !!

I think this is why they got rid of formal nights -- they knew that in the new Celebrity ships we needed more weight in our cases when flying for blow up tables, footrest and curtains ;-)

PS We really don't care tonight as, guess what, we have a SV cabin ------- yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh . Have I mentioned that before???!!!!

haha, this exactly reminds me of the complaints about the W hotel chain.  I don't think it will ever go away because the group it is targeted to likes the noise.  The younger people like the noise, like the energy, in all the common areas.  If you want to relax in quiet, put in your airpods and listen to your own relaxing music, or go to the spa, or go to your room.

FYI, we didn't find it noisy all over the ship (we were on a later cruise) or there is no way we would have booked another cruise on the Edge. We prefer mellow and found many mellow spaces on the Edge (Eden all day, MC, RTG, GP at certain times, Solarium, many other nooks and crannies). When we wanted something more lively, we found that as well. I think the ship is evolving in its personality. We will watch over the next few months and if it seems things are consistently noisy, we will switch to another ship. 🙂

I am with previous posters.  This is bizarre.  This is supposed to be a premium cruise line that markets itself as 5 star. And the Edge is supposed to be the top of the line for this line.  This simply shows they are mass market  and right up there with any 3 star.  Why would you bother?  It’s an invitation to shop around and simply go for price not brand.
