The Sunset Glow Posted April 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) Does anyone know what's going on in the DL on Adventure? Heard rumors (and hopefully that's all it is) that they are swiping your card and limiting you to only 3 drinks in the DL on this ship just like they do at the other bars. Anyone on board who can confirm or deny this? Edited April 15, 2019 by The Sunset Glow
Clarea Posted April 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2019 While they may be swiping cards, there is currently no drink limit in the DL or SL.
cruiseguy1016 Posted April 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2019 I was on Adventure 4 weeks ago. They never swiped my card and I was able to drink as many as I wanted.

Someone on board right now is saying they are limiting drinks to 3 - I think they may be assuming that because the cards are being swiped. Hope so. Thant's what I was thinking. Just checking because she said they were being limited. I think that would cause a huge uproar though😯

SailingSal Posted April 15, 2019 #12 Share Posted April 15, 2019 While we are on the subject of Adventure and Diamond Lounge - are they allowing D+ in the Concierge Lounge or is it too crowded? Traveling on Adventure in May and just wondering.

XSWABBY Posted April 15, 2019 #14 Share Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) There is no concierge lounge on Adventure. It is a suite lounge now. As far as the 3 limit drink in DL, not true (as of now) just off this Saturday. Was told that the card scanning was for inventory purposes by the beverage manager. Odd that they didn't scan cards in the casino when getting free drinks due to being a prime member. Edited April 15, 2019 by XSWABBY
robandana Posted April 16, 2019 #15 Share Posted April 16, 2019 Celebrity recently changed to unlimited drinks at any bar for Elite and up during the daily happy hour 5-7. You would think if this was such a costly program this would have never happened.....

These drinks are costing Royal/Celebrity less than a dollar each. 5 drinks a day on a 7 night cruise = less than $30 per passenger. Plus in most cases more gratuities for the crew. Royal probably has discovered that you give a passenger a few free drinks before 7/8 pm that it puts them in "the mood" to purchase drinks the rest of the night. I wonder what they want to know 🤔

I wonder what they want to know 🤔 They are probably concerned about bartenders over-pouring. They know how many drinks should be made from a bottle. When they swipe they have a record of how many drinks came from which bottle. Then they can calculate if the drinks are being poured as they wanted them to be poured

After working in the restaurant business, this could be very well be a way to check for over pouring. A half/ounce to one ounce over pour can significantly affect your margins if it is repeatedly done. While these are "free" drinks, there is a cost center that these drinks are being charged to, so I would think they would want an accurate drink count. Now if they think bottles of liquor or wine are being "walked" out, then it would be a simpler matter of double checking out what is going on. In past days, I worked in a resort. I would have to fill out a "pull" list and submit it to the powers that be whenever I retrieved anything from "central store". During the reorder process from suppliers, it would be apparent if things seemed to be out of whack in relation to amount of people staying on property. They could then go through the receipts and see oh we had a bachelor party that ordered tons of shots or whatever, so that would explain the spike in usage. On the other side if there was no reasonable explanation they would start to track particular employees and see if there was a trend.
Cruisin4beaches Posted April 16, 2019 #24 Share Posted April 16, 2019 Just off AOTS 3/16/19 I saw cards picked up but it was to pay for drinks that were not on the limited free drink menu. The diamond concierge was was very caring and even called my cabin to make sure I was having a good time on the cruise because I only went to lounge twice. I told him I'm o.k. but the lounge hours don't fit my schedule. Plus I had the drink pkg.
