Free at Sea Questions!!

Hi,

Just trying to determine if the free at sea is really worth it for us and  I have a few questions !

1. Is the 250 Internet package per person or per stateroom?

2. The 50$ shore excursion credit is it per person or per state room, For example we are looking at a 10 day cruise with 8 ports , does that mean we would get 50$ x 8 = $400 x2  =$800.  and im assuming you can only redeem if you actually do an excursion in each port if you skip a port the $ is lost

Thanks !

Pro Tip:   Click on the promo you are looking at on NCL.com.   On the next page that comes up, scroll to the bottom and click on "Terms and Conditions".   Everything you need to know is there.

Enjoy your cruise.

The shore excursion is per cabin / per port and it works as a rebate once a ship sponsored excursion is completed. This means the maximum you can be rebated is $400. The good news is you do not need to spend $50 on a ship sponsored tour to receive the rebate. Any qualifying tour will trigger the rebate.

We do not consider this offer to have much value for us. The free 3rd/4th passenger, beverage and dining packages are our first choices in that order. Still it is a nice perk with the current take five offer.

The shire excursion is also per person, so it could be worth $400 in your example. Yes, you have to take the excursion to get the credit.

Is Frodo the tour guide, Keith?  🙂

I really need to check posts before posting. 🙂

Actually, it was wasted on me, I had to google. I’ve never read or seen Lord of the Rings.

Apparently, if you go on an excursion that costs less than $50 you still get the full $50 rebate.

The problem is finding such excursions. There are some.

There are quite a few that cost less then $50 per person . Almost none the cost less the $25 per person so two or more people makes this moot. In our case we cruised Breakaway last January with six consecutive port days the last being Ocho Rios. My wife wanted to relax and just stay on the ship. Since we had the shore perk I decided to spend the morning at the falls on my own. The tour was around $40 with the Latitudes discount so I figured it was free to me. Other wise I likely would have stayed on the ship with her. The next day our account was credited with the full $50 rebate which was a pleasant surprise.

On our cruise in June was a distinctive voyages so I had a $100 per port and when our excursions were less than the $100 they only credited us the total of the excursion not the total $100. Also when I was in Alaska last year most of our excursion got cancelled and they still credited our account the $50 even though we did not go on an excursion. But I have heard others say that they did not get the credit if their excursion was cancelled so I think it depends on the cruise so I would not count on getting the full amount if your excursion for your cabin does not equal the credit. Also if you are in a port overnight you only get one shorex credit, we were in Reykjavik over night (total of two days) so we only got the shorex for one night day not two since it is per port.

If the excursion is less than $50, you get the value of the excursion, not the full $50. For example, we use it for a clam shell on GSC and Harvest Caye for $35-$40. We only get $35-$40 back.

The $50 per port is credited to your on board account when you complete a NCL excursion in that port. The credit can not be combined. So, if you don’t take an NCL excursion in a port, you lose that credit.

Per cabin and no, you can not redeem for cash if not used. Obvious reasons: they may give you $50 off but it doesn't cost them $50.

I just checked my reservation for one of my future cruises and it states that the $50 shore excursion is per port, not per person. So, if you both go on excursions at the same port you will get a $50 credit overall, not $100.

Correct. For some reason I typed per person, when it should have been per room (that’s why I said “also”). In the OPs example they have 8 ports so it will be $400 total.

Sorry for the confusion. My mistake.

I am booked solo in a cabin.  So, if the excursion credit is $50 per cabin, then I get that full credit for an excursion in each port?  That's a sweet deal for me on a cruise with 12 ports.   Or is there some fine print caveat that the $50 per cabin credit is based on double occupancy or something like that?   After all, NCL will get less from my one excursion less $50 than they would from two excursions less $50, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a catch.  Yes, I will read all the fine print and ask my very competent travel agent, but since this thread is currently active, it seems like a good time to ask fellow cruisers, who often are the best source of information.

I have the same situation, Joanne, and the person I talked to in order to book my excursions (the shore excursion dept, not a PCC or TA) assured me that I would receive the full $50 credit after each excursion. I think there is only one that is less than $50 on my cruise, so I did not inquire about that aspect. From what I've been told, it is best to book directly with the shore excursion folks at NCL, not to do it online or any other way. Your onboard account will be credited the $50 after you return from the excursion. I am also on a cruise with 12 ports, so it really helped to keep some of those solo costs down. I hope this helps!

Please see my post, I forgot to address you specifically, Joanne

That definitely helps!  Thank you, Fiona.

I also travel solo, and for me the $50 credit is the best deal.  I have a casino drink card, so the drink package is of little value to me, especially since you have the pay the gratuities on the value of the package.  My upcoming cruise has 8 ports, so it's worth $400 for me.  And yes, the cruise ship excursions may cost a little more than doing your own, but they aren't $50 more.  For example, in Cozumel there is a Passion Island excursion, which is a private beach with all inclusive drinks and food.  I've done it before, and had a nice time.  The excursion is $79.  After the credit, that becomes a nice $29 day

I have a free at sea excursion question...we have 4 cabins. When we get to the Bahamas 3 of the cabins want to do the blue lagoon swim. No one in the 4th cabin wants to go and plan to just walk around the port. Would the 4th cabin be able to book the excursion through their $50 credit for someone in cabin 2 to use? Bc all 3/4 will use up the $50 even with one person going so could the /be person in cabin 2 technically use the credit that cabin 4 has? Hope that makes sense.

Since they rarely check ID, this should work.  The person not going would book it (and be charged), and they can give the ticket to the other person for the difference in price
