What's a mess bag?

actually I said mess' as in abbreviated messenger bag which OP mentioned for carry on stuff

typical messenger bag ,,, has a shoulder strap ......  Really a man-purse!!!!

Classic Messenger Bag

Hey, I'm a woman and I have that bag!!!  Different colors, though (I did the "design your own").  Bought it back in 2008 to take all my stuff to work at the ski resort.  11 years later, it's still looking good and going strong!

I like it also.  I have no need for it but it's a very handsome bag.

I just didn't want to be like the herd and take a daypack to work.  We had to be self-sufficient when we worked the chairlifts, so i could put all I needed for the day in there.  Well, I couldn't put the big drill and auger bit we used for driving holes for the lift line posts...

I don't suppose you were at Tahoe, were you?  We used to live there and are now in Reno.  (Sorry for the OT.)

Nope.  A bit further inland... Although, I like skiing at Tahoe - good place to do a week trip and resort hop!!

What do you recommend for a male to carry when visiting a port that can hold items such as water, raincoat, umbrella, snacks, etc.? I have a messenger bag to use for carry on items. Would you use something like that? It does have a shoulder strap.

Use a back pack or book bag.

they were good enuf when I was in uniform and still work today.

'Course the military has long since retired them.  I understand that police, fire, etc. may wear them for work.  As a work pant I bet their terrific.  As a fashionable article of clothing, ixnay 🙂

They were fatigues when I wore them.  Weren't called BDUs until they changed to the camo pattern/design in early 80's.   EM

Another vote for cargo shorts.

I saw a man in cargo shorts today and they looked fine.  Because they were nicely pressed and there was nothing in the pockets 🙂

In case you're looking for fashion advice, here's one article of many.  (Carry a bag!)

I don't think anyone should be taking fashion advice from Business Insider.

Actually, any advice from Business Insider should be ignored.

I use an old backpack. The University gives me a new one every year.

The perks of academia.☺️

I think anything that doesn't require 'hand holding' 🙂 is probably fine and dandy.

BTW Business Insider has a good rep for being factual.  Left-center but that probably doesn't matter when it comes to attire 🙂

God bless them for building a business but I was a PM and analyst for 25+ years . BI is not the go to source for anyone in my business. Sorta like Dan Quayle claiming he was Jack. 😉
