I took some screen captures from the video for those who aren't able to see the video.  I'm interested to see what you all think of the new look Cunard interiors.  I understand these views are:

I wish there was something about this ship that evoked a feeling of “you must sail on this ship”. Unfortunately it hasn’t happened yet.  Nothing I’ve seen so far has enticed me even in the least, I’m sad to say.

I thought I heard 16 restaurants, but it could have been 15. I suspect some of those 15 will be a space that changes nightly, like the way they use part of the buffet to do Asian, Mexican, etc. They could also be counting bars that serve food, like the Golden Lion and QM2's Carinthia.

am absolutely loving the images so far.   She is very very different but I’m seeing a lot of Art Deco influence in a modern way which I think is a good balance. 

 

Your right that will be the Britannia and it’s a stunner.  For me the atrium pillars are reminiscent of the pillars in the original Queen Elizabeth’s first class lobby.   

I like the new golden lion. We never tend to use the pubs onboard but I do love this design.  It’s a nice contrast to the existing ones. It feels like a combo of old club/pub type style.  
 

Can’t wait to see the rest.  And then get a voyage in her booked up in May 🙂 

 

there was a quick shot in the video of a guy steaming a pillow in a standard cabin and from what I noticed the design looks lovely.  Similar colourings to the Queen mary 2’s latest cabins with the mauve and golds.  It had lots of bed side sockets and a stunning geometric light sconce on the wall.

To one, it’s Celebrity mixed with poor taste and then given additional glitz to cover lack of a cohesive plan or theme..  The demographic market direction appears obvious, let them have it.   One will stick with the three true Queens.

 Actually, "Celebrity" was my first thought, too. Nothing that remembers Cunard in most of the pictures, but a lot that looks like Celebrity, or even RCCL.

Do the designers or the new Cunard executives come from Celebrity? Even the wording in the video was like that. All this "contemporary" - just like Celebrity.

I think the interiors look rather nice.

i don't know how many of you remember the plethora of negative comments when the QV emerged, and now, even though they've made the back uglier, people seem to quite like it. I think most new Cunard ships are doomed to disappoint in their appearance. I remember (as a child, I hasten to say) being very disappointed QE2 didn't initially have a red funnel, something Cunard themselves eventually realised was a mistake.

i don’t think Celebrity at all.  I just got off CELEBRITY APEX and this looks nothing like her. APEX was a top five ship for me. Just amazing the attention to detail in the design. Very high style and nothing Art Deco about the ship. Nate Burkus was a lead designer of APEX and I think he has great taste and a keen eye for high design.  
 

What I see with QA looks very P&O to me.  IONA revisited.

You are correct, the design lead Adam Tihany, from Tihany Design was hired by Celebrity Cruises to do many venues on the Solstice-Class, and later hired  by Holland America to do the Koningsdam.

Absolutely. I remember many a comment about how the QV was a disneyfied version of “old classic liners” and the QE was too similar etc etc.  

change and evolution of a brand can be a good thing and is essential if it is to survive as nothing stays the same.   As someone else said before the renders are exactly that, renders. They don’t give subtleties in design like lighting changes, textures, and an all round idea of a space.   For me I loved what I heard from the design team and looking at the details in the images so far and from the description of what they have planned. I have every faith that the onboard experience will be quintessential Cunard but updated as it very much should be for their first ship on what will be 14 years (Eeks) when she launches. 🙂

So basically, we now agree it’s not a true Cunard Queen, but a glitzed up Celebrity, PO mongrel, possibly with a tacky touch of HAL.   Yet another legitimate reason why one will not board.

The video was a waste of time.  Eighty percent of it could have been produced two years ago.  And fifteen restaurants!  Plenty of empty chairs in the main dining room; what fun.

Celebrity has moved on from Tihany Design.  The Edge Class is the "new" Celebrity and it's quite high design (as were past Celebrity ships no doubt but a different style).  The newest Celebrity ships look nothing like Queen Anne from what I have seen so far.  Celebrity onboard designs are overseen by Nate Berkus, and it includes designers like Jouin Manku, Patricia Urquiolo, Scott Butler & Associates, Kelly Hoppen, CBE, and Tom Wright.  

 

All the Solstice Class and Millennium Class ships are or have been updated to the new Edge style design.

I recall too, people saying they were a pastiche.  Having stayed aboard the original Queen Mary in Long Beach a couple of times I can see elements where they've drawn inspiration from, but a lot of the QV/QE interiors are a modern idea of Art Deco is about rather than anything seen on a previous Cunarder.

 

For example. the casino, with the clock (that clock is not Art Deco, it looks Victorian in style to me) and the Queens Room are not Art Deco, but they have a look and the Queen Anne is so far them to make her seem like a ship from a different company.

 

With the three existing Queens you could say that was an overarching aesthetic that grouped the three together, so if you felt at home on one you would feel at home on another.

 

But this is going to be like switching companies, so I wonder it might alienate some of the existing Cunard cruisers.

 

As others have said, renders make it difficult to judge so I shall reserve judgement until I see.  I will definitely try a voyage to see what she is like.

I’d say that’s a given, judging by many of the comments here.

 

But Cunard/Carnival won’t mind if QA attracts a new, younger crowd. Which she will.

I remain of the same opinion as I was from the name reveal video - I appreciate it's very difficult to render lighting and reflective surfaces well, so actual live photos are the bare minimum to make a solid judgement, but from these first glimpses inside the ship looks very bland indeed...

I think it is important to remember that up until the QE2's refits in the late 90s, where Cunard started to embrace the classic heritage aesthetic, Cunard used to follow the design trends of the time. Mauritania - Edwardian, Queen Mary/Queen Elizabeth - Art Deco, QE2 modern 60s, Cunard Princess 1970s aesthetic ect. Not saying they were all beautiful, but they reflected the period the ship came out. So maybe this is Cunard's attempt to align with the times for one of their ships.

To me it looks like any international hotel and rather lacking in any nautical character.

 

I'd like it to look more like a classic ship. A missed oppportunity to create something that would capture the imagination. It just looks like more of the same old mass market lines but I'm sure the Crystal afficionados will be happy - it looks very Crystal.

Few on shore modern apartment piles have that traditional look. In as this apartment pile floats does not make it a ship but instead a modern floating apartment pile of some 2,000 apartments with little to recommend it to people who wish to feel they are on an ocean going ship. But there are few of those people still sailing and the QM2 satisfies that group. Princess Alice will due just fine with the casual let it all hang out crowd which seems to be whom Cunard is trying to attract with their dumbing down of all civil requirements of their passengers.
