Gambling onboard

I should know the answer to this!  But I’ve forgotten... can we gamble onboard, paying with the ship card?

 

Im asking, because if we can, I’ll order more OBC from my BOA RCI rewards 😉

Yes you can. And, at least on Symphony, there is no charge when you transfer money right at the slot machine. If you go to the Cashier, you will be charged a percentage.

The service fee to get casino credits is 5% unless you have a cash on board account, not a credit card one, which is what we always do especially when we have lots of OBC available.

We were on the Symphony of the seas in September with a CC on file not a cash account and there was no fee to use the sea pass card to transfer money at the slots.

Can they do this right at the tables or is this done at the casino cashier?

I bring cash, celebrity had a good deal earlier this year, you could pre buy chips, if you bought 50 they gave you 55 in chips or slot play , bought a few hundred. Hoping they still have it for our cruise in February.

Didn't Royal have a similar program last year?

 

I remember people being disappointed that you had to play the entire $55, calling it a "scam".  I guess they thought they could "make" money by immediately cashing out $55 that they "bought" for $50.  Now who is scamming whom? 🙄

 

However, any monies won during the play of that $55 you get to keep, which is how it works in most land-based casino's that I've been to.

Yes , chips could not be cashed in but when you bet them and won you were given normal chips, worked well for me since it allowed me to carry less cash ,normally bring a hundred or more to gamble with per day . Actually won a little on last rccl cruise and lost a few bucks on celebrity.

Yes, right at the table. They give the card to the pit boss, who runs it. You sign the receipt, and the receipt goes into the box where the cash goes, and you are given the chips.

I have had this with chips from things like time share presentations (we were VERY bored one day).

 

But they gave a $100 chip, that had to be played.  But when I sat down at a BJ table, I was able to change the chip for smaller denominations, and then could have cashed those out. 🙂

Yes, this is what we have always done. No promo chips, just basic chips.

Did they replace the promo chips with normal chips too?  That's where they lost me.  They only gave me normal chips for the winnings.  So even though I played a long time, I only got rid of the promo chips when I lost the round.  It seemed kinda stupid just to get a 10% bonus.  Not worth the trouble.  I've been to land casinos where once you've used the promo chip in whatever you're playing and then you win, they replace it.

Same here you needed to play the chips, I am going to gamble anyhow so it was a good deal for me . I like playing about a hour a day .

This is what I did on the Adventure last week. No fees. 

You get money from the tables there's a fee of 3 or 5 %.

Royal did have something similar last year.  I bought in for $2000, received $2200 in promo chips which were played until lost.  All wins were paid in real chips.  Wish they would bring it back.
