Free day of VOOM for Diamond question

Recommended Posts

I have a question about the free day of VOOM Surf for Diamond members. We have been Diamond for years.

I always pre-purchase a VOOM package for the entire cruise thru the cruise planner. My husband always just used his 1 free day and then used my 1 free day during our cruises. It has never been an issue, until this last cruise.

Last week He used his day and then a few days later I tried to log on to HIS iPhone using my info for my free day. It wouldn’t let me, it said I already had the internet. We went to the VOOM desk thinking I was doing something wrong and he said I couldn’t get the free day because I already got the deal when I purchased the internet in my cruise planner.  That wasn’t true and I told him, I paid the same price as everyone else. He kept insisting I already received the equivalent of my free day.

Has Anyone else Been able to get their free VOOM day while they already had the package?  It has always worked for us, for years, until this last cruise. I’m just curious what others have had.  We will be D+ next cruise and it would mean 2 days so I figured I would find out now.

sorry so long.....

They stopped doing that.  I had the VOOM package during a recent TA, and my wife could use both my 2 days and her 2 days of Diamond + free internet, but on a recent Caribbean cruise on Explorer, I was told they stopped doing that since I already had the package.

It has been the same for Celebrity where I purchased the internet package and my wife uses her 240 free minutes, then tries to use mine.  The system wouldn't let us since I already had the package.  Royal is just catching up on this.  🍷

It is tied to the sign-on for the package and the free day... they both use the same credentials so the system only recognizes one of them.  I would call C&A before you sail to find out if they can move both days to the non-package passenger.

You do not have access to the coupons prior to boarding the ship, so that will not work.  If we did have access, most of us would be applying them to the lower rate Voom package prior to boarding.  We have been able to have our coupon moved on prior cruises, with the new interface, they are not allowing it anymore.

this makes sense. Like I said, we have always been able to do this until our cruise last week. The VOOM guy moved my free day to my husband while repeating to me that he wasn’t supposed to do it. Just another thing that’s being taken away.

I think @twangster needs to provide the actual verbiage to say the VOOM specialist on board to make this happen - he has done many times. Of curse long term it would be nice if RCI fixed this, but unlikely that will happen.

I have simply stated I pre-purchased Voom but would like to use my Diamond Plus free days.  They ask my cabin number and change my one device Surf and Stream plan into a two device Surf and Stream plan.  It kicks me out and I have to log back in using my existing credentials and it reports I have a two device plan.

You prepaid for the one device plan, so did they convert you to the two device plan for just two days, then revert you back to the one device plan?  🍷

I had the VOOM for the entire voyage, and with two days remaining, I went to the VOOM desk and they converted my one device package to a two device package for the remainder of the cruise.  Hope that still works.  Will see at the end of this month.

That would work perfectly fine for me, will try it in May.  Thanks.

So, on our recent Allure cruise, since it was 7 days I cheaped out and only bought 1 internet package, knowing that we are D+ and had a lot of time for free.  So, when we got on board I logged in using the Voom letter in our cabin, then about day 5 or 6 I created a new log-in using our D+ credentials and had two devices for the last couple of days.  It all worked.

I’ll try that next time, but When I asked how my husband could use my free day the VOOM guy told me he’s not allowed to do that and acted like he was doing me a huge favor

im confused as to what you did.  What do you mean you created a new log in?  Because I tried that on my husbands phone creating a new login for me but since it asked my name, Year of birth and room number it knew I already had an account.

The girl at guest services on our Serenade cruise last month tried to tell me we couldn't have my two free days since we had purchased an internet package online before the cruise. I went to the Voom person and they said nonsense, and added a second device to my existing plan. She was going to speak to the CS rep and correct her.

The one device 7 day package I bought was in my name.  When I did a 2 day package I used her name.

the prices prior to sailing are better than the discount you get for diamond plus onboard for the weekly pkg, correct?  We are sailing on the Oasis March 8th and Im just trying to determine if we should purchase it ahead.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the length of the cruise and what the cruise planner price is. If you can get by with not buying until day 2, since day 1 will be in cellular range for most of the day, buying onboard could easily end up being cheaper.
