My day, part 3

 

So after feeding the fish, and doing a little hike, we get the all important question. “Where are we eating?”   This is after a big breakfast, snacks on the drive to Linesville, and ice cream at Linesville. 

 

One of the books they brought along today was a Who Would Win book.  They give a lot of information about wild animals, and who would win a battle between the two. Hornet vs. wasp, polar bear vs. grizzly.  We were not too far from the Safari Bar, so we thought the grandkids may enjoy it. 

 

I know I talked about this place before, and some found some of the pictures disturbing.   It is a place that has a number of mounted heads and full mounts.   In fact, they have 101 from North America, Africa, Russia, and New Zealand.  They have a menu that has a key to all the animals.  

 

 

The surprising thing is that our 8 year old grandson could not only name most of them, he could tell you about them.  He has always been fascinated by the wild animal shows, and evidently has retained more information than Cliff Clavin. 

 

First disturbing picture, since they just read about polar bear vs. grizzly.   It is amazing how massive these are. 

 

 

One good thing is the food. It is both good and inexpensive.  My Reuben

Haha, yeah, you can’t miss that rock…I’m sure you will be seeing more impressive ones in Maui if you go to the Haleakala Volcano National Park. Maui is one place I have yet to visit as I only been to Oahu and Kauai.

 

I only have the Ubehebe Crater photos – unless you count Crater Lake photos as volcano pics

 

 

Yeah, falling down a crater is not a good thing.  Handrail?  What handrail?

Oregon coast is under rated. We only spent 2 days driving up and down the coast and we could have spent double the time to soak in the scenery.

Very nice.  We visited Crater Lake National Park in a previous trip over 10 years ago. We went in June and due to snow on the road, a lot of the area was still closed to cars. For those unfamiliar, Crater Lake is supposed to be the deepest lake in America at 1,900+ feet.

 

The dark blue color from the lake is amazing. 

 

 

They typically get over 40 feet of snow annually.  See the snow accumulation still around even in June

 

 

You need to focus a little bit at this picture as the reflection off the still blue water blurs the water line

Looks like another great day.  If your grandchildren have to tell their school class what they did this summer, it wont be boring at all!

BTW, those nachos look delicious.  Now I'm craving nachos.

Ahhh, a beach volleyball fan.

 

To be totally honest, I did not even know this event existed or was happening the week we were there.  Too Lazy/Too Dumb to check every city’s web site to see what’s happening on these long road trips. 

It was totally surprising when we showed up at the city and to see a massive crowd there as I wasn’t expecting much happening given it was a weekday and Seaside was only supposed to be busy on weekends when Portlanders head for the ocean to cool off.

 

 

So a quick search on Google shows that the event claims this is supposed to be the biggest armature beach volleyball tournament.  It’s held annually in August and next August 11 to 14 event will be the 40^th anniversary.  Mark your calendar:

Oh, yes, Dani, you need to come to US and rent one of those big old RVs and tour the US West. It will take you at least couple of months to see the highlights but it’ll be worth it. 

 

HINT:  Try to avoid Death Valley in the summer as with Global Warming, they hit a record high of 133 degrees Fahrenheit/56 degrees Celsius last month.  It might get slightly uncomfortable if you visit during the summer…

Finishing up the Oregon trip photo series:

 

Do you folks have Tillamook in your neck of the woods?  They ae famous out here in west coast and Costco and other grocery store carries their cheese and ice cream products. 

Per their web site, they are sold in 27 states:

They have a self-guided tour of their creamery and afterwards you can buy whatever ice cream/cheese to take home with you.

I did some corn yesterday for freezing also................Got 24 cups of kernels, 12- 2 cup bags. We froze some full ears 2 days prior.

Not sure what to do with all the tomatoes though....I put them outfront for the neighbors for free. But I think they are getting sick of them....Been so hot outside here the tomatoes are baking out on the table.
