I didn’t know what was classed as an upgrade/ downgrade so I just booked a cabin I knew was fine on the Eclipse. Should I try for an upgrade ?

Michelle

My opinion here is my mom and you paid a premium on Edge to have an infinity veranda over regular - not to mention we felt like the mobility advantaged of Edge (incl. the veranda without a lip, magic carpet tenders, etc.) made for a much better experience for a handicapped cruiser. If not handicapped, a person could have selected a regular 1A/1B/1C on Edge (there are no HC 1A/B/C cabins on Edge) and saved money. I can appreciate Silhouette doesn’t have the infinity veranda and moreover want to make sure she’s got what she needs to be able to travel. I guess given the inconvenience feel if her/your cabin is downgraded on Silhouette to 2B to accommodate handicap, Celebrity would owe some form of compensation. I imagine someone not handicapped on Edge who booked in 1B might be moved into 1B on Silhouette which doesn’t sit right when a handicapped cruiser paid a premium for E1 on Edge and then ends up in 2B.

Looks like Celebrity is providing price protection now for the Silhouette cruises that were replaced by the Infiniti December 2021 - March 2022.

Just receive this update:

"Earlier this week, you were provided an update on the status of your 2021/22 cruise vacation aboard the Celebrity Silhouette and the recently announced deployment adjustments that will, unfortunately, require cancellation of your voyage. We are reaching back out today to provide additional details and to ensure you are aware of your options to be re-accommodated on another Celebrity Cruises vacation or to receive a refund.

From today through December 1, you may rebook your South America Argentina/Patagonia or Antarctica cruise vacation on Celebrity Infinity, for a 12 to 14-night South America Argentina/Patagonia cruise departing between December 2021 and March 2022. You now have the option to rebook the same non-holiday itinerary type and stateroom category, at the original rate and promotion as your Celebrity Silhouette booking or at prevailing rates, whichever is lower. Additionally, guests booked on the Silhouette 12/19/21 South America Holiday sailing may rebook on the Infinity 12/22/21 Argentina & Patagonia Holiday sailing at the original rate and promotion.

If you choose to rebook, you will also receive an onboard credit of $200 per inside, ocean view, standard veranda, AquaClass or Concierge Class stateroom; or $400 for The Retreat. Please contact us to take advantage of this offer. If you are unable to rebook by December 1, you will automatically receive a 100% refund to your original method of payment, for amounts currently paid on the reservation. No action is required to receive this refund.

You can expect to receive a refund within at least 30 days after your reservation is canceled. Cruise taxes and fees will be refunded separately. Please note, if you have already cancelled your sailing by taking advantage of our Cruise With Confidence policy, you will not be eligible to receive the rebooking compensation noted above.

If you pre-booked any shore excursions, beverage, internet, specialty dining or other onboard packages, through Celebrity Cruises, these charges will automatically be refunded in full to your original method of payment and will show up as a separate transaction. Guests with independent shore excursion arrangements should contact their tour operators as soon as possible.

Guests with refundable air travel and hotel booked through Flights by Celebrity will be refunded automatically. You will not need to call in to initiate the process. Guests with nonrefundable flights booked through Flights by Celebrity or independent air arrangements need to contact their air carriers directly to make all required cancellations. "

We haven’t received any further email from Celebrity about a L& S. But thanks for the update, will contact them and maybe book the Infinity with the same price and perks, then decide what to do later. But as I have said eating none of my family group is particularly keen on cruising on the Infinity, even though we really love the itinerary.

While I get the perception of the Edge IV being a premium, it's more like a standard offering than an upgrade on that class of ship.  It's simply the kind of balcony that they have unless you're in one of the small handful of normal balconies with the porthole shaped balcony opening.  The last time I tried to book one of those non-IVs, it was a higher price than an IV.

Just trying to help out people here trying to move their cancelled sailings to the new ship covering your existing itinerary and dates.  Edge -> Silhouette or Silhouette -> Infinity.

When speaking with Celebrity or TA don't use the terminology "Lift & Shift".   Lift & Shift is a different program which requires your sailing to be 1 year out +/- 4 weeks.   If you ask for L&S you will probably be told your sailing doesn't qualify.

What your are asking for is your reservation to be moved to the new ship at the "protected rate" and perks.   Unless of course  prevailing rates with "All Included" are cheaper (yea right!).

  • 2 weeks later...

An update of sorts on my Infinity sailing now Summit now chartered, lol...March 28-April 2, 2022 5 nights.  They are only offering to move me at prevailing rate, and $100 obc.  My original booking was chartered, so they moved me to another 2021 date at price protection and threw in $100obc.  I then L&S to 2022. Now, this 2022 date has been chartered.  But, no longer will they price protect.  I pretty much figured this would be the case especially since I got an awesome deal, 5 nights for two, inside room, no perks for $590 TOTAL, plus $100obc!!  Yes, I am disappointed, but, not surprised.  My Celebrity Rep said she tried and talked to several people, and I believe she did.  I have a NRD of $200 so hopefully it will be properly credited back.  There have been other times when they cancelled and it was not, so then I had to follow up and show them the error.

For an 11-night TA, their prices are insane.  🍷

Thanks for this, I just check prices, did not think were insane, high yes def though.  Anyway, more to Always Included...when I booked a pretend cruise it  asked me if I wanted to include gratuities???  WTH, did they make another change?  Is AI still AI or did I miss something?

They are insane.  The cheapest suite is $10K.  That’s just a little less than $1K per night.  You can forget about it.  🍷

Understood, insane to you, just saying that I did not think insane for me.  Are they high, yes, not arguing that, actually not arguing anything.  If one does not like the pricing, we don't have to make a reservation.  I'm ok with it and have made  my cruise plans accordingly.

Seems posted prices for cruises will continue to be high.  Would expect lots of confusion within Celebrity until they can see how cruising will look going forward.  If X is not careful they will have many of those FCCs changed into refunds instead of future cruises.  Many long time cruisers are both frustrated with poor communications from Celebrity and are looking elsewhere.  And yes, I understand this is an unprecedented event; but would have hoped long time customers would have been handled better rather than eroding the benefits of our loyalty.

Well said.

My tolerance is certainly waning, especially as time goes on with zero communication regarding steps being taken with the conditional sail order.  Or are they saying screw that and working on a vaccination-based reopening plan?  Throw me a friggin' bone here Celebrity!

Just booked the Summit for November 2021 out of Miami. Itinerary is listed to include a stop in Key West, but obviously that will change with the recent vote to ban ships with >1,300 passengers

Key West is up in the air with lawsuits pending.  Plus I haven't seen anything about when it would otherwise go into effect.
