Venice Hotels with NCL

Could anyone tell me which hotels NCL uses in Venice when booking through them?  Thank!

i cant really answer this for you, but i can tell you you'd probably be much better off using booking.com, and booking the hotel yourself. 

 

we've cruised with ncl from, europe,  china, etc and i've always used this site. it gives you an entire list of hotels, prices, details, you can book with no down payment and have 3 days before your arrival time to cancel the room with no penalty.

 

i used them to book rooms in athens, on a cruise that was recently cancelled by ncl, and i used them to book rooms in amsterdam and copenhagen  for an ncl cruise we have booked this july.

 

i personally think you'll be much happier and much more satisfied with your decision

I can’t help you with what hotels NCL uses, but I wouldn’t let them choose for me in Venice. 

 

Getting to your hotel in Venice can be difficult/expensive and time consuming. Since you have to either walk or take a boat every where location is very, very important. Crossing bridges with your luggage isn’t fun-most of the bridges have steps so your bags have to be carried up and then down. If your hotel isn’t on a water bus line you might have to pay for an expensive water taxi to get you there. 

 

When I was planning our trip I found the site Europe for Visitors extremely helpful-it gave directions to hotels including how many bridges you had to cross. We ended up staying for 3 nights at the Hotel Della Mora in Santa Croce area-it was a fairly easy walk to Piazzale Roma and the people mover that goes to the cruise ships. 

 

For Venice I strongly recommend you research the hotels to find ones that work for your party and budget. Also if I ever cruise from there again I would stay in Venice both pre and post cruise- the cruise before ours didn’t get into port until after noon due to the cruise post being closed down due to fog. Many people missed their flights home. Even with travel insurance I would prefer to spend an extra day than risk missing my flight home.

While we did not book our hotel through NCL, we stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande pre-cruise.  I can't say enough good things about it.  They had a boat pick you up from airport (personally greeted by their rep and escorted to boat) and drop you right at their private pier.  We walked everywhere- no problem.    Room was beautiful.  Breakfast (included) great.  They include a tour of Murano glass factory.  Loved Venice, and the Greek Islands.

The NCL hotel is Crowne Plaza Quarto D'Altino.  Normally we would book our own hotel but we are travelling with a very large group and using the NCL air.  When ssing NCL's hotel, all of the transfers are taken care of and we will all be in the same place for pre-cruise excursions.  Now, if we can only sail!.  .

We have stayed in Venice many times in the past - both post- and pre-cruise. But have always booked the hotel ourselves. Hotels in Venice are rather expensive compared to rest of Italy, and when booking through NCL the price often gets almost double of "normal" price. I know the city of Venice rather well after several stays, and would recommend that you find a hotel that is located close to the square called Piazzale Roma, as that makes easy access from "everywhere", including from the airport. Taking a water-taxi from the airport instead saves a lot of time but is very expensive (I believe around €100 one way for 1-4 persons). Taking the "airport-vaporetto" from the Alilaguna line is a good alternative and has several stops along the way between the airport and the cruise terminal, and cost €15 per person. What I recommend you to AVOID is the need to take a regular vaporetto (water-bus) to your hotel if your hotel is not situated close to the "airport-vaporetto stop", as those vaporettos can be very full at certain times of the day and if you are travelling with luggage it may be very difficult to get on and off the boat in mids of the crowds... Price for a regular one-way ticket with the vaporetto is also rather expensive: €7,50. As an alternative you can buy a ticket for 24h, 48 h, 72 h or 7 days (€20, €30, €40, €60).

 

A great alternative to hotels in down-town Venice is the island of Lido that is situated in the middle of the Venice Lagoon, only 10 min with vaporetto from St. Mark's Square. Here the hotels are significantly cheaper than in Venice itself, plus that Lido also have a long sandy beach if you would like to relax after a day of sightseeing.

I am looking at the Crowne Plaza through NCL or maybe a direct booking for an October 2023 cruise.  We are looking for two nights pre cruise so we have one full day to see Venice before going to the Gem.  

 

Does the Crowne Plaza have a shuttle from Marco Polo Airport to the hotel?  I see on the hotel web site that they have a cruise package deal which includes a shuttle to the cruise ship.  I will be travelling with two senior ladies and they won't be able to lug their luggage around a people mover or walking over bridges.

if  you book a crowne  plaza, check to see if there is a club level room. it allows you access to their lounge with goodies and booze. the one in hong kong served nreakfast.

 

i try and stay at a crowne  plaza whenever i can. by  the way, venice is amazing as well as beautiful

Daniel,  I don’t know about the Crowne Plaza we schlepped our bags ourselves and stayed at the Hotel Della Mora. We did go in October though, and I highly recommended staying in Europe after your cruise as well. When we sailed in October the sailing before ours was delayed due to fog and didn’t even get to the pier until afternoon. Apparently fog is common in the fall in Venice. I was worried the whole cruise we wouldn’t get off in time for our flight back to the states. 

 

Other than the weather was lovely-I think I would have melted if we had cruised over the summer to Greece.

Venice is almost nothing BUT bridges. We were there with my folks in June 2011 and my mom (who was wheelchair-bound) insisted on getting up and walking over them. All 600 of them, or so it seemed. 😁 Venice is a gorgeous city and there's no place like it. But it can be punishing on the knees. I know you'll have a great time, the place is simply enchanting.

That's why I'm looking for direct transfers from Airport to hotel and 2 days later shuttle (not train) to ship.

@DanielA      If you're looking for a convenient place to stay in Venice, Piazzale Roma is probably your best bet.  It is the last point of land travel in Venice so it's where buses, shuttles, taxis, must drop off their passengers.  There are 4 or 5  hotels right on the plaza so your taxi can drop you AT the door, or pick you up and deliver you to the pier.  (list incl Mariott, Ca Doge, Santa Chiara). 

A taxi from the airport to PRoma is about 45E,  20 minutes. Or you can take the ATVO express bus , also 20 minutes for 8E.  It's like a greyhound bus with a luggage hold beneath. 

I don't know the cost of a taxi to the pier .. they'll gouge you since it's less than 5 minutes away, but if you need to convenience ,,, it's worth the cost. 

If you can walk a block and go over one small bridge a few other hotel options would be available near PRoma . ( incl Olimpia, Arlecchino)

@DanielA      Elevators are not a common amenity so if you need one, be sure to inquire.

@danielA   Another advantage of this location.... walk across the plaza and you're at the Grand Canal.  Hang a left, walk a block and you're at a water bus stop.  Your friends can enjoy a great trip down the Canal without having to walk miles and climb 100 bridges.  If youre' there for more than a day, consider a water bus pass.

we took a cruise from Venice in October 2019? I think. We chose to find out own hotel and after a great deal of research chose Santa Chiara in Piazelle Roma (I may be misspelling this) and it was absolutely wonderful. I believe I did it through expedia (am I allowed to say this?) along with our flights and felt the price was exceptional. We stayed in Venice for about 4 days pre-cruise. You can take a the airport bus to the PR and it's a very short walk (maybe 5 minutes to the hotel, no bridges, just a few steps down to the hotel. I could not believe how close it was to the bus area. and to the port. I actually found a youtube video of someone walking from the bus area to the hotel and was able to easily use that to guide us to the hotel. We got a suite, kind of accidentally, and paid less than $150 per night, and it included breakfast. It was right on the canal, very close to transportation on the water, and very close to the port area. We walked to the port area and took the train to the port. 

When we came back from the cruise, we stayed at the Crowne Plaza (the one NCL uses). It was on the train line but seemed very far out of the main town. The room was fine, the food offerings were fine, but it wasn't like the Santa Chiara. We only stayed there one night. We also had a HUGE issue with their bus transporting us from the cruise to the hotel. We ended up waiting over an hour in the rain. So not sure we would use them again. And the price per night was not comparable to Santa Chiara.

Thank you.  How were you able to arrange the shuttle from the cruise to the Hotel?  Did you purchase a cruise package from the hotel or book it through NCL?

We arranged the shuttle through the hotel as I remember. I don't remember the cost - but they also transported us to the airport the next day. A lot of NCL folks stayed there - I think we had three buses going to the airport.

Are you comfortable boarding a vaporetto? That is, by far, the easiest and most cost effective way to move around Venice. The key is to pick a hotel that has a vaparetto stop close by and you can check to see if there are stairs between the stop and your hotel. We have stayed on the grand Canal (overpriced and overhyped in my opinion). We have also stayed in various districts, but we keep returning to a hotel called “tribute to music”…. It’s on a wider spot to the grand canal so the prices are attractive (and the cruise ships drive right by), but the best part is it is close to S ZAccari stop which is a major connector with only one bridge to cross. Location location location. Venice is In my top 5 destinations and it’s worth it to stay out of plaza Roma if you are comfortable doing so.

to book the shuttle through the hotel, I emailed the hotel to take care of that. For them to pick us up at the cruise port and then take us to the airport the next day. They were very helpful.

Just looked up our Hotel from 2010, cannot believe it was that long ago, seems like yesterday.  We did easy peasy, took the bus from the airport to PR, bus parking lot, so to peak.  got off bus looked to the right, saw our Hotel, Hotel Olimpia, think it is a best western.  did need to walk over a very small bridge, no problem.  Had very adequate room, with mini bar and coffee maker.  Breakfast included, and it was good.  Walked all over that night, had dinner.  Walked back to PR, 3 minutes maybe, next morning, took a taxi to the Ship, NCL GEM.  Hotel $ am sure was reasonable, just so easy, no water transport with luggage and easy walking access to all the Island has to see.

Last year we stayed in Nh rio novo.

It s 2 bridge away from piazalle Roma.

We took an airport bus to there. (20 min driving time).

Walking to San Marco square took us +- 30 min but the walk to there is also stunning in fact almost every street in Venice has something to see.

In summer 2020 we were lucky that Venice was vibrant but not busy. 

Only in the little streets around the San Marco square. So i was happy to stay a bit away from the touristic heart and have quiet streets around the hotel.

But everyone is different.

I just returned from Venice last night.  The NCL website lists the  "Crowne Plaza Hotel, Quarto D'altino Italy" as their hotel.  https://www.ncl.com/cruise-destinations/mediterranean-cruises#!#hotels  Not sure if that will stick post COVID.  A quick 'chat' on the NCL website should confirm.

 

The Crown Plaza is on the mainland and IMO is rather far from Venice.  If you or someone in your party has mobility/balance issues than this might be the hotel for you as you won't have to navigate any bridges and/or rocking boats.  NCL can bus you right to the pier from the Crown Plaza.

 

If your budget permits and bridges and boats are not an issue, I would stay in Venice.  You didn't say when you were cruising, but the farther out your trip, the less expensive the hotel will be.  Their are many many interesting hotels available in Venice, and depending on the neighborhood, you can get a pretty good deal (relatively speaking) by doing a little research.

 

This last trip we stayed in Academia (which is about as far away from the airport as you can get in the city proper).  We took a water taxi and it was 120 euro one way (4 people).  Expensive to be sure.  But, there is nothing like standing up in the back of an all wooden Riva as you pass under the Rialto as you cruise along the Grand Canal.  I consider the water taxi to be a tour of sorts...i always take the taxi when I visit Venice and I always enjoy the ride.  The view never gets old.

We stayed at Hotel Paganelli on the lagoon in 2016 and loved the location.  There was a sizeable vaporetto stop directly in front of the hotel and there were no bridges to cross over to get from the water taxi to the hotel.  Our room was small but very charming (the front building is an old convent).  It is a short walk to St. Mark's Sq.  We took a water taxi from the cruise ship to the hotel, and from the hotel to the airport.....it was absolutely wonderful (expensive yes, but it was a very enjoyable experience).  We spent 3 days in Venice (including Burano & Murano) and it is the only travel location that my husband & I both teared up when we were leaving.....

So true! I've probably skinned a knuckle or two by hitting some of the buildings just to make sure they weren't made of paper-maché. (too much time spent at amusement parks, I'm afraid)
