This information has been widely discussed on the news by doctors and scientists, and there are many articles on the subject. The vaccine causes the body to create antibodies to help fight infection to keep people from hospitalization or death. Doctors suggest that everyone get the vaccine, even if they’ve had Covid because there is evidence that people who get the virus can be reinfected.

My next door neighbor, a hospital health care worker got Covid 3 times in 2020. Each time it was not as severe as the first time last April. They have personnel in her hospital who received both vaccinations early on and are now getting Covid. The doctors in her hospital are not very enthused that the vaccine will actually keep us very safe from contacting the virus.  These same doctors have said Covid is not ever going away and will be with us more like the seasonable flu has been for the last hundred or more years.

Having said this I will get vaccinated when we have availability in my home city and I will wear a mask while on a cruise ship if that is what it takes to travel again. If the best the vaccine will do is protect me from hospitalization and or dying, that is better than no protection.

And all of those in one way or another say we don't know. The recommendations to continue mask wearing and social distancing are because no one is sure if transmission is still possible after vaccination, not because someone is sure it happens.

Reinfection is probably the scary piece, and I don't think there's much of a clear picture of how big an issue it is. And certainly no picture as to whether vaccination makes it less likely.

Maybe I missed it, but in the articles you quoted it never explicitly states in the actual body of the article that the vaccine “does not” prevent infection.  The healthline article states that in the initial bullet point, but the experts in the actual body of the article say that they “don’t know” if it prevents infection or not or if just prevents severe disease.

It is still being studied, but as another poster mentioned, a lack of evidence showing that the vaccine does not prevent infection,  does not mean that it doesn’t.  We just don’t know at this time.

In the mean time we need to keep distancing and wearing masks regardless if you are vaccinated or not unfortunately.

why is a person who chooses NOT to cruise right now "afraid"?  You mention the mask police, are you the personal cruise decision police????

As I've said in many conversations. There are a lot of people that confuse being afraid with using good judgement and common sense.

Concerning pools. In the past 20 something years I've been on over 50 cruises and have yet to have been in a pool or a hot tub. Cesspools of germs is all I see when I look at them. Nothing like seeing some joker get out with open sores. Yeah, I want some of that. I have strong opinions about people that use pools and hot tubs in those conditions, but since I'm not using them that's their business. My point is rules around pools are the least of my concerns, and I'm sure I"m not alone. Also not a fan of laying in the sun all day. Shade for me.

That is how I feel about eating at the buffet, well other than for my entertainment value

Chlorine exists for a reason.  :)

Does fine if one is breathing treated water.  Not so much if two people are in the pool, not socially distant.

Masks are not needed if people are socially distant out doors, they are needed if they are close together.  Chlorine treated pool water does not help if people are in the pool and not socially distant.  Which of course means that the number of people that can be in the pool at the same time is fairly small.
