I thought originally, princess had announced that there would be some preferred vendors (off the ship) where you could use the medallion.

Wildly unlikely that princess could ever get something like that working, so your statement is completely true!

I'm pretty sure at least one of the gift shops on Princess Cays took the Medallion for purchases when I was there on the Regal a year and a half ago.  I'm less certain that I actually used my Medallion there.  If I can find documentation of it, I'll follow up.

I guess I will have to use travelers checks whenever I want to buy tanzanite...

That is an excellent point. I have never encountered where you could use the medallion at a port vendor. I wonder if anyone else can comment?

I saw several shops at the port in Falmouth Jamaica with signs.  But I have no need for overpriced jewelry.

You get a discount and Princess gets a kickback.  Probably better to negotiate a cash price if you are interested.

Okay, there are some uses off the ship. There are indeed vendors where you can use the Medallion to pay and you get a small percentage back as OBC. I don't think anybody accepts travelers checks anymore...

That would be awesome if they had that working on princess cays.

I remember being on a cruise where PC was the day before Ft. Lauderdale.

On my statement, I noticed a drink charge on the island, that wasn't mine.

I went to the desk ... and the poor JAP went in the back, and came out with a stack of receipts

about 8" tall, and started going through them.

I felt so bad.  I told her, I'll just pay for the drink so you don't have to do this.

She said if she didn't do it for me, she'd be doing it for the next person in line.

And, for the hyper-sensitive politically correct ... JAP == Junior Assistant Purser.

I found my original bill from the Regal on that cruise.  It seems that I did use my Medallion to pay for a few bucks in souvenirs.  It's heavily redacted and it doesn't say everything I'd like it to, but this is the only proof I have, so here it is:

Do you have a picture of the wristband?  And how much was it?  Do they have a lot of large sizes in stock?  I read that some ships don't have very many left and they are too small for most except kids and small adults.

He got this for $15 or so on the Discovery in November.

I saw a couple of merchants in Puerto Vallarta that displayed the Medallion sign and accepted it for payment. I'm just not real sure I want to trust vendors in another country to not somehow pilfer my payment info but, then again, I don't really know how it works when they accept the Medallion for payment.

Note: Going back to "cars in my youth" I had totally forgotten that the "dimmer switch" for the headlights was always on the floor and operated with the left foot. I know that seems really bizarre to younger folks but that was how it had "always been" and the change to having it on the steering column was a major innovation. (Of course the automatic transmission was a huge change as well. I remember the "pushbutton" transmissions with the buttons on the dash.) Oh, it was also illegal to drive barefoot (in California at least) when I first started driving. Seriously though, I am really not all that old! As I said previously, there are many (many!!!) folks who post in these forums who are 10 or 15 years older than me. I remember a 28 day cruise in 2017 where I was told (multiple times) by others on the ship how young I was. (Dang, that was a great cruise and probably the best bunch of folks we have ever cruised with even though we didn't "know" any of them at the time.)

I think that’s part of the security benefit.  Merchant charges the Princess account, so Princess is the buffer.  Also, then Princess can provide a discount (and take a cut of the sale).

It should still be illegal to drive barefoot!!! Just as it should be illegal to drive smoking dope!!! Chicago is notorious for drivers toking it up. The few stop lights you encounter before getting onto Lake Shore Drive you can smell it getting sucked up into your car's HVAC or even if you just have your windows open!!! Awful. But I digress.......

Where I grew up, there were a lot of hills, and my dad always had cars with manual transmissions...

From time to time, I would get into a situation, with one foot on the accelerator, one foot on the clutch...

And lacking a third foot, no way to dim the headlights when needed...

Strangely, when I was a kid, people would say things like "you've grown another foot since I saw you last..."

It never helped.

Is there a way to amend the time on  pre booked dining reservations on the app, there is an edit function, but this only seems to allow you to add further guests, there appears to be no facility to amend the time.

Cancel and rebook?

I *think* you'll have to do each night individually, but go to that nights reservation, tap edit, which I believe you've done.  You got this screen:

You don't have to add a guest, just tap the Continue button at the bottom and it presents you with the available dining rooms and times.  Make the change, then tap Save, or whatever it says.  I didn't want to change mine and risk goofing anything up!

Hope this helps!

Sure.  Just go into the night(s) you want to change the time and look for a new time.  If you find something suitable, then confirm the new time and the old time will be replaced.

So with today's Medallion update I see that excursions are now on the Medallion app.  I shuddered because I was hoping that the confirmed excursions and pricing hadn't been removed from the Travel Summary as specialty restaurant details had when those reservations were moved to the app.  They haven't been - yet - and this paper trail has been critical to me in the past.  But what I find interesting is that when I try to look at excursions for our December cruise, the app pulls up excursions for our cruise coming up in two weeks.  I've tried a couple of times to see if maybe I could get it to work for cruise #2 but the excursions from cruise #1 keep appearing.  You would think that they would have learned the importance of testing by now?

Most certainly, but once again, they aren't testing a broad set of scenarios it seems.  I have to wonder who is managing these putzes and allowing the shoddy work?  Hard to believe someone with any sort of strong IT background.

You are correct, sir. I meant to say the MedallionClass app...not the medallion. But interestingly, on board the Island Princess for our recent trip through the Panama Canal, we forever had to give our room number with each drink order to all the bartenders....and at all the Stores....or at the Spa......

I thought the whole purpose was that it would recognize you and all the information would pop-up on their screens so we didn't have to give room numbers.

The bartender has a tablet with faces of everyone nearby he can tap.  A lot of the service on Regal still asked your stateroom to verify they have the right person or whatever reason.  Some service didn't ask my stateroom so they either remembered me or saw my face on their tablet.

I ordered a water once sitting around a busy bar and the service person gave it to a different person that kind of looked like me.  I had the drink package so I just got another one.

A couple times in the casino I ordered from my phone sitting at a game and they came and found me, but other times struggled and I noticed a server walking around looking for me, so it is not super accurate for them, specially in a busy area.  I did like ordering drinks to my room from the phone app.  That was handy, like when I wanted a water before bed.

Not really, I get that screen but the continue button is faded blue and does not function.

Tried again and it is now letting me amend dining bookings, does the medallion app often play tricks on you?

Just start at the main menu for DMW and go in like booking a new single night reservation.  You can also try it on the web version.

I would say for myself, that my mind plays far more tricks on me than my medallion app. But that's just me! 🤪 Hopefully, this will all get perfected before they start putting the chips in our brains.
