Ready to take the step up

We have a 24 hour hold on the January 6 Splendor sailing.

Have many cruises under our belt on Celebrity, Royal, Princess, HAL and NCL.

We are ready (we think) for a smaller ship and higher end experience.

After much research we have selected Regent and are ready to take that step up.

A few questions before we lock it in tomorrow:

My wife is a bit motion sensitive. We have selected a mid ship lower deck suite, is there a better location than that?

While we do enjoy dining with others, there are times that we prefer to dine by ourselves, are two person tables easily found?

We enjoy a turn or two around the dance floor, what dancing options will we find available?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can offer.

We will make our decision tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Scott

Ozzmund - Welcome to Regent!  I'm pretty confident that you will enjoy the entire Regent experience.  We've never had any problem eating in any ship venue as just a single couple by ourselves.  sometimes, the privacy is nice.  We've also enjoyed a bit of dancing and general socializing after dinner on many evenings by ourselves, with old friends, and with "new" friends who we've met onboard.  I think your selection of a mid-ship lower deck suite will be perfect.  Best Regards.

You will NEVER be forced to eat with others - Regent doesn't play like that.

Lower middle is a great location but unless you hit a storm or are travelling back from Antarctica of in the Tasmanian or North Sea you should be fine.

You will find a dancing option most (or maybe all) nights until around 11pm...then all but 7 passengers go to sleep.

We are also considering a Regent cruise so may I ask a couple of questions?

One: I see that economy flights are included. Is there any problem with asking for a business class upgrade and will the price be competitive? The cruise in question requires flights from UK to Japan and there seems a generous discount if we arrange our own. I am tempted with this option as it means we can pick the whole flight package which suits our circumstances.

Two: I can’t find an answer via the search, but would like to know if we can upgrade the basic wifi package, and again at what cost?

Three: We asked for a quote and this was provided, along with a courtesy email which suggested that the cruise advisor would answer any further questions. We did ask but no replies were forthcoming🙄

Thanks

!, You can do it through Regent or on your own - we always have Regent do it unless it is a domestic flight.

2. Yes, $10 per day but it doesn't give you faster wifi, it just pushes you ahead of your fellow cruisers to the front of the line and reduces the delay.

3. Get a new travel agent.

At least for US bookers who want to upgrade to First within the US the upgrade prices are extremely high so most if not all in the US who want to fly domestically in First take the credit and book themselves for much less.  Likely the same in the UK but, do not know for sure.

As to your internet question Concierge and above does get you multiple logins.  ,If you are not logging in simultaneously a single login can be used by multiple people just not simultaneously.

As to the lack of a return call, use the HUCA method which is hang up and call again and hopefully the next advisor will be more customer friendly.

Hi @MBP&O2/O,

Flights: As you will be aware, Regent UK pricing only includes Economy class air  whereas guests booking in the US have Business class included.

It is worth asking Regent for an upgrade price and you may well find that it is competitive. You can use Regent booked flights one way and your own the other if that suits your arrangements.

Things to watch for if you book your own flights & take the Regent credit:

  • You will lose the airport transfers
  • "Flexible" flight booking is required in case changes to the cruise occurs  - not unusual during these difficult times. When we book our own flights we use airmiles which offers the advantage of changes/cancellations without undue penalty
  • Your Regent booking will no longer be covered by the UK "Package Travel Regulations"

Wi-Fi: Not sure that Wi-Fi upgrading is worth the extra daily charge.

However if this is your first cruise on Regent then the various Concierge level amenities (WiFi log-ins, early dining & excursion reservations etc) may be an advantage.

Booking: Many UK Travel Agents will offer a healthy discount on Regent prices. You can discuss details & book with Regent and then have the booking transferred to your chosen TA for the extra discount.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to recommend TAs on here so best advice is to look for ones that specialise in luxury cruising, contact them for pricing and read carefully their customer feedback.

If you are new to Regent then make sure you take advantage of the Ambassador Credit available.

Have an enjoyable time planning your cruise 😎 🏯

PS: Intrigued by your username 🤔

I have just sent them an email so we’ll see what they say.

If we DIY to Japan it will be KLM or AF (limited choice of international flights from Newcastle) and that franchise / code share allow freebie changes on biz class tickets …. hence looking at flight credit.

Not overly bothered about the transfers as we are looking at flying to Osaka and spending a few days there after which catch the train to Tokyo / Yokohama.
The last TA I used claimed to specialise in luxury cruising … wasn’t impressed. As you say, recommendations via CC are not permitted.

User name? As read …. my initials are MB ….🛳..  Should really change it and add ‘retired’ to the end
